Remember how suddenly every young, 20-30 African-American actor's favorite character was suddenly Black Panther before Marvel Studios announced that a feature film starring the King of Wakanda was in the works and that he'd appear in Captain America: Civil War? The same thing happened with every 20-30ish, blonde starlet and their sudden interest in Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel. Well, it would appear that something similar is happening righ tnow with Squirrel Girl. The latest name to wade into the discussion is one-time Ant-Man director Edgar Wright, who throws his support behing Anna Kendrick for the role.
Their full, humorous exchange breaks down as such:
Edgar Wright: In Scott Pilgrim:
-
Superman (Brandon Routh)
-
Cap America (Chris Evans)
-
Human Torch (Evans)
-
Punisher (Thomas Jane)
-
Cap Marvel (Brie Larson)
-
Lego Robin (Michael Cera)
-
The Atom (Routh)
Get Anna Kendrick a Squirrel Girl film.
Anna Kendrck: ☺️☺️☺️☺️☺️
Wright: In this movie you have to fight all those other characters. Deal?
Kendrick: Fight? Or Defeat?
Wright: Defeat
Kendrick: So I have to fight (defeat) seven previous characters... Any movie suggestions for inspo??
Wright: The one where George Michael & Max Fischer have a fight. I forget the name.
At this point, numerous outlets began circulating their twitter convo, and as is the way of the internet, the reports became increasingly sensationalized with headlines stating that Wright was campaigning for Kendrick. Wright eventually felt the need to respond.
Wright: I mean. It was just the one tweet, but sure.
Kendrick: Oh clearly you don't understand how this works. You're in it now.
With Squirrel Girl suddenly front-and-center throughout Marvel Comics and Marvel Animation and Kendrick suddenly throwing her name out there along with
Stranger Things' Shannon Purser, is something in the water? Of course, someone should tell these folks that campaigning for a role with Marvel Studios is a sure-fire way to not get the part (unless your name is Vin Diesel).
