The Avengers Script Extortionist is Back

The Avengers Script Extortionist is Back

As reported by Josh, yesterday several movie sites including CBM were emailed by a "XXXBobSmith" who wanted money for a supposed copy of the The Avengers script. Here are the emails and pics we recieved...

Here's what the first email yesterday said...

Hello,
I've come into possession of an advanced copy of a script called "Group Hug" which when released will be titled "THE AVENGERS". It is a pink draft of the shooting script dated 04/08/11. The pages bear the Marvel Studios letterhead and all 129 pages are watermarked with one of the starring actor's name. Also included is a personal note from writer/director Joss Whedon. If this is something that you would like to procure, contact me and we can negotiate terms. Verification can be provided if interested.

And today's email included pics...

Hello All,

I’ve attached 2 photos of the Group Hug script for verification purposes. I trust this to be sufficient, however if further proof is required a photo of a specific page can be sent at your request.

I have one hard copy that I am looking to sell and I will not be making any copies, therefore exclusivity is guaranteed.

Considering that the release of The Avengers is over a year away this script should generate a substantial amount of traffic for the website that acquires it. So let the bidding begin...

Click on the pics to view (and read) the tantalizing details of Hulk, Black Widow, and Iron Man involved with some kind of disaster upon an aircraft carrier....

In all likelihood this is a faker trying to make a quick buck, but even it its legit, it will be leaked eventually anyway. So, why pay for it?

You guys say it's fake, but in the most recent interview MTV did with Mark Ruffalo, he said that he has a lot of stuff with Black Widow in the movie. This script would seem to suggest that.

i hate how theyre doing the marvel films mostly in the ultimate marvels version. theyre trying to make these movies more modernized like the ultimates. the ultimates arent that cool cmon have u seen thors ultimate costume it suks and cap doesnt have his wings.the original version is way better.first they take thors helmet away from the movie. he wears it for one scene only and thats it he doesnt wear it again.thor isnt thor without his helmet cmon marvel stop [frick]ing up with the characters.then they cast someone as bucky who is too old btw. in the original version hes a kid In the ultimate version hes an adult.then they decise not to use hawkeyes original costume. hes just basically gonna wear a leather suit thats black. peopla arent gonna kno who he is cause hes not wearing purple.its 2011 marvel cmon u have the power to make some purple costume from a comic book come to life.they coudve made it real but no they decide to make him a new costume thats black.why cant they keep it original seriously man it pisses me off. i swear to god if they dont include caps wings and thors helmet in the avengers ima be really pissed if i hear one more thing thats related to the ultimates ima kill marvel.

Damn that feels good to get it off my chest.

@shadow People aren't going to know who he is because no one outside of comic fans knows who Hawkeye is. Personally I really like the way they take bits from various incarnations of the characters to create the movie versions.

It's just one page. Easy to fake as you can't judge the quality of the script from just one page.

I say hoax.

If it's real, and he's trying to sell it, he's begging to be arrested.

If it's fake, and he's trying to sell it, he's also committing a crime.

If it's fake, and the very act of trying to sell it is fake, he could probably get away with it.

shadow1460: Not everything in the comics would look good in the big screen. i.e. hawkeye's classic costume. It'd looks so fcking ridiculous.

lol the MTV interview was filmed before the script was posted. and script leaked before the interview actually aired. so it's unlikely this was based off the Rufflo interview.

So I'm willing to lean towards legit. But what a moron. No legit site is going to buy that, no one wants the lawsuit. And if someone DOES buy it, they're an even bigger moron.

DocDrop - 4/27/2011, 10:34 PM
Seriously @Shadow, grow up. They made a Cap movie with real wings in the 70s & 90s and he looked ridiculous. Somethings don't translate from the page to the screen. Some modernizing & making things a bit more realistic is much more appealing to a broader audience. They aren't making the movies just for you!

If it's real: theft, possession of stolen property, and the attempted sale of stolen property. 3 charges.

It it's fake: criminal fraud, attempting to sell material based on copyrighted characters (counting as either copyright infingement or counterfitting, or both.) 1-2 charges, with a lawsuit.

Either way, there's no escaping the courtroom for that bozo.

I don't know how y'all feel but for me I love not knowing anything about a movie before I see it. I like the feeling of surprise I get watching a movie for the first time. A lot of times I think people give away too much in the commercials...like Men in Black 2, for me it was ruined because all of the funny jokes were in the commercials so when I saw the movie it was boring, a let down, and not funny because I was used to the punchlines. On the other hand look at the advertisement for The Matrix...they played it close to the vest and watching the movie for the first time was like opening a Christmas present I really wanted and was surprised to get. Even if the script is real and leaked I will do my utmost to avoid any spoilers...I love Joss Whedon's stuff and can't wait for that present under the tree.

@Deadpool813

it's JOSS Whedon, and Penn's not being credited as a writer anymore, according to an article from a couple days ago.

Kendospawn When I was kid, MARVEL released the comic adaptations of The Empire Strikes Back and later they did the same for Return of the Jedi. The comics came out before the movie and they represented the movies word for word- save for a few minor omissions. I remember sitting with my classmates on a trip to see Return of the Jedi and it felt like I saw the whole Palace scene and I knew what they were about to say. It sucked ass.

I don't mind people that like to read spoilers and scripts. It's the douchebags that try to ruin it for people who don't want to know that makes me sick. These assholes like to feel like they know something and since certain people don't care, they want to ruin it for you. Makes them feel cool, I guess. I can't wait to see THOR. Why would I read the phucking script? To be with the cool kids and say I read it? To be a douchebag and spoil it for others? It should really be an unspoken rule among geeks. No matter how much people flame each other and have the inability to accept others opinions, the most civil thing would be upholding a non-spoiler code. It's really the douchiest of douchebag things you can do and I hate them with a passion.

I have a co-worker who's read the Harry Potter books. He knows I enjoy the movies but he wants to tell me what happens so bad that I start to question his character. Why do people want to do that so badly? It's such a dick mentality.

The same people who read scripts and spoil movies couldn't possibly enjoy them much. Most of them are probably the same people who attend popular functions that they're not 100% into, just to say they went. It's the only way they can be cool and get attention for like, what, thirty seconds?

@thanos83: No one "narc'd" on this imbecile. He "narc'd" on himself by contacting countless sites attempting to sell this fake load of tripe. Is that really your stance on this? You're upset that somebody "narc'd" (which still has to be the lamest term utilized for this so-called act). Do you hang out with other comic gangstas; "keeping it real against the po-po? Rolling thick thru the 'burbs, keeping your eyes out for your rivals: The Pokemonsters?" Do you consider driving home from the bookstore with an actual novel to be "riding dirty"?

@shadow1460: Puberty called. Said that you missed the bus.

NeoBaggins - 4/28/2011, 1:37 AM
Hey, I gave you that catch phrase, Loki. Don't make me sue you for non-credit recognition. =p

I bet the script was stolen during that Captain America footage that just came out in New York. Sam is around way too many people. Evans, too. But you'd have to be a big dick to try to sell that. I hope it's fake because it's amateur as hell. And if you don't want it stolen, why the big ass name on it?

Hear hear!! I hate people who spoil everything for others! I did the same thing you did but with the Phantom Menace comic book. I waited 24 years for that movie, but 25 was asking too much. I wish I had waited.
I hope this script is fake and the phucker pays through arse for being an idiot.

Hopefully this doooshy will do jail time. Either its fraud or theft or both. I remember when the Phantom Menace was in the theaters someone stole a reel of the film from a theater and put it on Ebay. Of course they got in trouble with the law rather quickly.

Cud b real. If u notice on the sides of some of the pages it actually says copyright by MVL finance which stands for marvel entertainment company. Not saying u cudnt just fake that, buts a minor detail a lot of fakers would miss.
NeoBaggins
NeoBaggins - 4/28/2011, 2:54 AM
joNathanPetrelli lol I remember peaking at the Phantom Menace book too. I think it was Dark Horse instead of MARVEL by then. The entire trade federation ambassador visit scene is in there. I learned my lesson and it's such a rich experience without the spoilers.

I'll watch the trailers and I'll even overdose on clips. But scripts and important plot devices are for the movie experience. I don't even like the "making of" footage before seeing the movie. It deconstructs it for me. I think a week or more after a films global release it's fair game. If you haven't seen it by a certain time, you shouldn't expect people who have seen it to not talk about it. So, I'd stay away from places that could spoil in that case.

But yeah, this type of stuff is douchebagery at it's finest. It's disgusting that there's even an demand for what this guy is doing. Weather it's real or fake, it's sickening.
