After being taken to the cleaners with bribes, I waited all day anxiously anticipating if he could score another pass. Much to my delight he was able to, and I was able to witness this spectacle (in 3D), and here are my reactions. Again this is no review just, my reactions.
- Action scenes are amazing and satisfying. Nobody is short changed when it comes to fighting.
- By far the best Marvel movie, and it's not even close.
- Everyone is given their due when it comes to fighting save for one character who I felt was a little under used, but he was in one of my favorite scenes and had one of my favorite lines so I am cool with it.
- It took a little while to get going, but when it did I was completely immersed.
- For all intensive purposes this is a comic book movie fans comic book movie. Meaning that when you watch it, you get the same vibe of reading a comic book, or watching Earth's Mightiest Heroes. It was made for hardcore fans of comics, and they will appreciate the care Whedon gives to this movie.
- Not a single bad performance. Some of the lines (not many) were a little cheesy, and delivered awkward but they were so few and far between you didn't pay them much attention, and it didn't take you out of the movie.
- The 3D was terrible. If you can, avoid seeing it in 3D at all cost.
- The final 45 minutes or so, is probably the most fun I have had at a theater in a long, long time.
- The highlight of the film for me is how Joss has all these characters interact. He does a great job of not forcing dialogue or banter, and the interaction of the characters is much more organic than I would have ever anticipated. That is where he deserves the most credit.
- My only gripes would be the pacing at times, it does become a little predictable,some of the camera angles are a little jarring and out of place, and some of the jokes fall a little flat. However, it's nothing that makes the movie terrible, and it's something that is so few and far between that most won't care.
- This is definitely Marvel's The Dark Knight, but it will be interesting to see how critics react to it. It's not an overly deep story, and I'm sure many will write it off as another fun "popcorn" movie, but Joss Whedon deserves to be commended. He took a very silly premise, with silly looking characters and made it completely work, and created one of the best Summer Movies in recent memory. You can tell he really cares deeply for the material, and his passion is definitely on full display.
- I won't say this will be the best comic book movie of the summer, but it will definitely be the most fun.
- This is definitely up there with the best movies based off Marvel Characters, it is better than Spider-man 2, and for me is a toss up between this movie X2 and First Class for the greatest Marvel character movie of all time.
- Now if I had to guess the Tomotatometer after watching it I would definitely say 90%. Even though it is by far the best of the Marvel Movies I don't think it will beat out Iron Man's rating. Comic book movies are judged a little more harshly now then they were just four years ago (thanks to the stellar Iron Man, The Dark Knight, First Class), that critics now have higher standards for reviewing them. Which is actually a really good thing. Also I firmly believe this will make a billion plus worldwide.
Overall really, really well made movie. Definitely worth checking out on the big screen, but not in 3D.
