Marvel has been on a role lately. They announced last night on ABC's female talk show "The View" that the mantle of Thor would be taken up by a female, and of course, on the film front there's all the recent Age Of Ultron stuff today. Now, on the Cobert Report, Joe Quesada appeared to announce that somebody will soon be taking over the mantle of Captain America as part of Avengers NOW! "Cap's days of protecting America are numbered," the host said, before updating his audience on recent events in the Captain America comics. He continued, "Who among us is prepared to step in?" which led to the audience chanting his name, "Stephen!" "You'd have to be extremely patriotic, look decades younger than your actual age, and you'd have to own Captain America's actual shield," he said to his audience, joking that he'd be taking over. Finally, he brought out Marvel Entertainment's Chief Creative Officer and former Editor-in-Chief who clarified that the hero that would be taking over as Captain America is indeed none-other than Sam Wilson, also known as The Falcon. "Well you know, Steve Rogers saved the world again, but not without personal sacrifice," Quesada said. "Sam Wilson, his partner, the Falcon, is becoming the new Captain America."

They proceeded to give us our first official look at Sam Wilson as the new Captain America in a side-by-side comparison to what Wilson looked like during his days as The Falcon, with Marvel later releasing a higher quality image. A lot of people expected Falcon to be the one taking over as Cap after the events of #21, which resulted in Steve Rogers losing the Super Soldier serum, causing him to age 65 years. What are your thoughts now that Marvel has made it official? Sound off below!

How much you want to bet they're replacing all these main characters so that after the core Avengers members contracts are up in the MCU they can replace them with these new characters without needing to recast? Now we just wait for the eventual Tony Stark replacement.

The [frick] is going at Marvel?! Quesada, control your bitch. Actually, just resign, it's your fault Marvel Comics is the laughing stock it is today. Strictly cause of this weird crap. It might be good. I'm not judging. But when you guys get a good, fresh idea, you warp it into shit.

All of these stunt character changes, like everything else that has happened in the comics since the Avengers (and more or less starting around when Siege ended and undid everything of at least 5 years of comics), everything has been changed to be like the movies. Now, the comics are getting proactive about being what creates the avenues for certain characters to continue in the future without it being "non-canon"

I'll check it out. People whined when Miles Morales came in, and now his comic is one of the best Spidey comics right now. People bitched about Superior Spider Man when it started, and didn't want it to end when it's time came. Give it a chance people.

If we didn't age like fictional characters and contracts were infinitely extendable... this wouldn't be the situation. However, it means that generation two of certain characters is going to be actors being characters we already know taking on roles we will know how they fell into. Then, assuming that Marvel Studios output doesn't tank after it peaks, (in the next some say year but i think after avengers 3 continuity will be a general audience problem since not everyone can explain/ignore it at once so well like Whedon, who wont be making these for long after that), and then the James Bond style replacements will commence for generation 3 of the actors, where the original characters return portrayed by different actors.

This is all assuming Marvel Studios stays a viable studio until that point, which they certainly have seven to twenty dozen different maps to, depending on what does well and what will eventually be their first flop or even worse---financial loss.

Alright guys, time to give my thoughts. Personally, I prefer this over the Thor announcement because Sam Wilson is an established character with deep personal ties to Steve Rogers, so having him take over is no different than Bucky taking over as Cap a while ago, aside from the fact that Wilson is black, but I don't mind that given that this is Wilson we are dealing with. As always, thumb this article up if you enjoy, thank you.
