NOTE:

This is NOT a hate thread against the comic book movies DC/WB, Fox or Sony make. I ask that you keep your comments friendly and leave trolling at the door. This means Marvel trolls AND DC trolls. Thanks.

It all started with Iron Man. It was a massive hit, had a huge following, a great star and was a great movie overall. It promised that one day, we would have a team up between some of Marvel’s greatest heroes. Six years later we have gotten four sequels, an ultimate team up movie, and a tv show, huge BO Gross and TONS of critical acclaim. They’re also leading by example, as all three other major CBM studios are following suit with Cinematic Universes. If that isn’t successful, I don’t know what is. Anyway, without further ado, here’s a list of reasons why I love the MCU, shall we begin?

1. They have a plan way ahead, and they go through with it.

Back even before Iron Man was released, Feige and co. had a plan. They know what they’re doing and had a grand plan they implemented. Unlike say, WB, Marvel had a plan before they released their first movie. Marvel takes initiative and get’s things done.

2. It’s plethora of directors, styles and characters.

Marvel Studios has done a great job of diversifying their directors. I really like the plethora of styles we get in the MCU. I mean, just this year we have a wicked political thriller that we got in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and then a space epic in Guardians of the Galaxy. It’s great to see all these great tones that fit all the characters.

3. They try to cater to everyone.

Despite the whole Mandarin debacle with the fans, not to much I have heard from the fans about comic accuracy has been said against the MCU. Marvel tries to cater to everyone, making quality films and huge blockbusters.

4. The quality is fairly consistent all around.

I would say that I like(if not love) every movie in the MCU. I know some fans dislike Iron Man 2 & 3, and the Thor 1 & 2, but I have enjoyed every movie thus far. I never felt like there was a movie that felt to sub-par. This doesn’t mean it doesn’t happen, but it feels pretty consistent all around, which I love.

5. The acting is top notch.

Many fans loves Robert Downey Jr.’s performance as Tony Stark/Iron Man. I would totally agree. But besides him, the other actors and actresses do an incredible job of bringing their characters to the big screen. Like I honestly prefer Chris Evans to anyone else. He just is INCREDIBLE as Captain America. It’s just so great all around, the acting.

6. They made secondary characters box office gold.

If I told a nerd at Comic Con say, 24 years ago that one day, Captain America would outgross Batman, X-Men or Superman, I’d get laughed at. Marvel, as we all know, sold their most popular characters in the 90’s. So what they had left was pretty small. But they turned some pretty small characters into huge successes. Thor was very unknown by even some in the comic book fans before Thor was released. So to turn it around so much is fantastic.

And that’s all folks, so just comment below and let me know what you think!

Captain isn't exactly a secondary character. Is he iconic as Batman or Superman? No, but he isn't as obscure as people try and make him out to be.

No, he isn't. Maybe I exaggerated about it, but he still wasn't as world re-known. Thanks Starfox!!

Great article. There's one thing I would add though. Feige said they had interns go through every marvel comic to figure out how many characters marvel had the rights to and just who they owned.... it's over 5,000 characters. Not to mention any new ones the create along the way (Skye anyone?) So marvel is pretty much set!!

I'm really feeling the MCU right now.

Can't wait for Guardians of the Galaxy....

Plus, Avengers: AOU will also bring us Vision, Scarlet Witch, Quicksilver, Baron von Strucker

DrKinsolving - 6/30/2014, 4:48 AM
Black Panther, Daredevil, Ultron, Luke Cage.... And, all of these characters could meet up with each other because they exist in the same universe.

The list goes on, always something to look forward to at Marvel

LET'S BE HONEST HERE!

We all want Marvel and DC studios to succeed.

I mean, these two companies are what made these characters that we love today.

I want both studios to succeed. Hell if they can collaborate in the future then better!

@BatManHeisenberg Good read buddy! Thumbs up to you, goes to show that even in times like these we love both Marvel and DC.

Yeah, I'm with you, I've thoroughly enjoyed EVERY movie in the MCU...weird, as a kid, I was more a "DC guy"...in my adult years, Marvel characters connected with me more...Another strange thing, I have a sense of "pride" for the Marvel Studio and what they've accomplished...the vision and GUTS to create the MCU off of B and C level characters is simply amazing to me...can not wait for the next installment, GOTG!

I prefer DC's quality and if they go through with the rumored plans, then it could beat out the MCU IMO. But even though I prefer DC's quality, Marvel does a better job of using all their characters(however obscure).

@BatManHeisenberg Excellent read!

If i may...
and stop me if i stray, i want DC to FAIL. Fail BIG and publically. But not as much as i want FOX and Sony to fail. I'm from Chicago I like the White Sox over the Cubs its impossible for me not to choose sides. But for the right reasons, i want them to fail so they learn something not(only) because im a marvel fan. but we have seen what happens when we "want them all to do good for the good of the genre"..we get black johnny storm and whatever piece of shit universe that xmen is. What we love about marvel is that no matter what they basically do good business and if the others arent gonna do the same then [frick]'em.

*sigh* I'm sorry, but even though I agree with a fair amount of this article, there was no real point if writing it. We've had dozens of similar articles, they always say the same thing, and they always end up just starting flame wars.

No, I don't want all cbms to succeed. I want GOOD cbms to succeed. I want bad cbms to go down in flames, and that includes Marvel. And quite frankly, I'm not sure if I want to see C-list or D-list characters getting solo movies just because some fanboys want them. So I don't necessarily think it would be terrible if Ant-Man bombed.

Oh, and when exactly did Capt. America outgross Batman? (I like Cap better, but TWS did NOT outgross TDK or TDKR. You can't really count Batman Begins, because it was coming off the horror that was Batman and Robin, and frankly even though it hasn't been that long, Batman Begins was almost in a different era.)
BatmanHeisenberg
BatmanHeisenberg - 6/30/2014, 7:12 AM

Cap 2 DID still outgross Batman regardless. At this point it seems you like trolling every new article I write. Stop. Go away.

Nice read! Back in the early 90's, I was an avid comic reader and a follower of many Marvel and DC animated series. Then as a teenager, I was into other things. Superheroes were no longer appealing to me. The X-men films didn't catch my attention, to me they were so weird! (even thought I used to love their animated series). The 2002 Spiderman movie and the following sequels got me a little bit curious, but that's about it. Even in 2008, when Iron Man was announced, I instantly thought it wouldn't be my cup of tea. My exact thoughts were "really? that armored guy from the cartoon TV show I used to watch as a kid? What are they thinking??". Well, they proved me wrong there and ever since. You could say Marvel Studios reignited my love in superheroes and comics in general. I started re-watching other franchises from a different perspective and I ended up enjoying most of them.
