POEM: Avengers Assemble

POEM: Avengers Assemble

I had some spare time and decided to write a short poem commemorating Earth's mightiest heroes, the Avengers. Enjoy!

Avengers Assemble

And so one time there came a day unlike any other
When evil struck and Earth's mightiest heroes found each other
In need of an alliance against this common threat
And so that day was born a team, greater than the rest

The knight in metal armour, cruising through the sky

The soldier from the 40s, a man out of his time
The prince of far-off kingdoms, beyond imagination
The genius and the monster, hunted by a nation

They called themselves Avengers, and set out to protect
The people from their enemies, and no matter what came next
The team would stay together, and they would fight the foes
That no single one of them could ever fight alone

They fought time-travelling warlords, and demons from below
They battled alien conquerors, and groups of terrible foes
They even clashed with ancient gods, who sought to rule the world
And through it all they persevered, a shining banner unfurled

And over time the team has changed, bringing in new members
Mutants, aliens, kings and spies, more than I can remember
Nobody can really say just how they stay together
But given all they've done for us, it's certainly for the better!

And the people that they protect can sleep sound at night
Knowing that if evil comes and there is a great plight
That they will be protected, and feel something very special
When they hear the battle cry, 'Avengers assemble!'

@TheBritAvenger

I had to give you props, I suck at writing in rhyme. The only time I do it is for comic book stuff, any other poem I write is totally free verse. I love to see people manage to do it, 'cause it baffles me.
