Warner Bros. recently announced
10 other DC Comics superhero films to accompany
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice on the film studios' superhero slate. However, left off that list was the
Sandman movie, which is currently being scripted by Levitt, Gaiman, Goyer and screenwriter Jack Thorne. According to Sandman creator Neil Gaiman, here's why---
"[Sandman's] not a DC Comics film. It’s a Vertigo film. That’s a different slate of films, and a different announcement."
Fitting, considering that the Vertigo comic series has a long history of flirting with whether or not it actually takes place within DC proper. I'd also point to the fact that Gaiman seems to be implying that there's a "SLATE" of Vertigo films coming down the pipeline as well. Also not on WB's list were the Justice League Dark movie from Guillermo del Toro and the purported Legion of Superheroes movie. The roster of Justice League Dark is comprised of both mainstream DC characters and Vertigo properties, meaning that the film could fall on either side of the DC/Vertigo fence. As for the Legion of Superheroes movie, it appears to be in the very early stages of development according to Latino Review so it's probably too early to tell whether that project will actually move forward or not.
