Check out the first teaser trailer for the live-action Attack on Titan film from director Shinji Higuchi.  Attack on Titan manga creator Hajime Isayama consulted on the film and helped create new characters and enemies that would stay true to the source material.  Yuusuke Watanabe (Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods) penned the script.  The first film will be released August 1, with the second coming a month later on September 19.

Attack on Titan is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Hajime Isayama. The series began in September 2009. The story of Attack on Titan takes place in a world where the remnants of humanity live inside a series of connected cities, isolated by enormous walls. These walls exists to keep the Titans out, gigantic humanoid creatures who devour humans seemingly without reason. These Titans have reduced the world's population to staggeringly low numbers. The 3 main protagonists of Isayama's manga are Eren Jaeger, his adoptive sister Mikasa Ackerman, and their friend Armin Arlert. Their lives are changed forever when a "Colossal Titan" breaches the wall protecting their town, leading to thee death of Eren's mother. Vowing revenge and to reclaim the world from the Titans, Eren, Mikasa and Armin join the Survey Corps, an elite group of soldiers who fight Titans outside the walls.  Haruma Miura plays Eren. Kiko Mizuhara is Mikasa. Kanata Hongo will play Armin. Satomi Ishihara portrays Hanji. Nanami Sakuraba is Sasha. Takahiro Miura is Jean.

Graphics could use some work, final titan at the end looked 'ok' but everything else had a 'CGI' feel to it. Especially the 'comets'?

Duh this isn't a big budget Hollywood produce movie that uses the best visual effects studios.

still not feeling the "mellow yellow" casting,i know its a Japanese production and all,but from all the animes\manga products outside today AOT was one with most possibilities to work well being made in the west, since the story is passed in a distopian version of Europe and all the characters except one are Europeans.

well its not looking bad so why not?

CGI looks like shit, but still can't wait for this.

I guess I would prefer a western (but faithful) take on the source material. This certainly isn't Akira that would be shameful and missing the point to be white washed but I feel like AOT would benefit from the $$$ of Hollywood.

Speaking of Attack on titans. Isn't Sony rumored for doing a american version of Attack on Titans?

This looks like a fan film too.
Maybe it's the cinematography.
The CGI is okay I guess

My guess is they do this, try and get some cash out of it, then they sell the rights to Hollywood. Though I still think it is an extremely hard franchise for Hollywood to produce and sell without it having an R rating, people being eaten by giants and all.

"Duh this isn't a big budget Hollywood produce movie that uses the best visual effects studios."

No need to be condesending. I'm not asking for the CGI to be better than films like Avatar, i am simply asking them to have higher quality CGI than the Asylum :L

I know the normal CGI level for live action adaptions, and they have a quality that is better than this. Considering the titans are mostly practical effects, its also even more evident when the CGI is terrible. Especially when its for a incredibly easy to do 'comet' scene.

Parasyte the Maxim and Assassination classroom both have better CGI in their live action adaptations despite having a much smaller fanbase, as such its depressing to see a much more popular series have terrible CGI.

really reserving judgment on this one. On one hand, it could be like The Rurouni Kenshin movies, with only minor adjustments here and there, but an overall accurate portrayal of the manga/anime while staying rooted in "reality" a la The Dark Knight movies.

OR

It could go the way of Donnie Yen's Monkey King. A good character piece, but the action scenes were oh so susupect.

All that hype and publicity and talk of how much money they spent on CGI and the efx shots still looked extremely bush-league - laughably so.

Judging based solely on the few character "emotion" shots in the teaser AoT looks solid. Colossal Titan looks dope, but again, that might be just the one "good" shot in a barrel of monkey poo - similar to Monkey King and the assault on Heaven (the one good bit of CGI is when he clones himself for the initial charge on Heaven's gates).

Have my fingers crossed for this, but I wouldn't be surprised if I got let down a bit. Rurouni Kenshin set the bar, now its up to AoT to see if it can reach it - which, given AoT's inherent need for heavy efx, and the propensity of these Asian franchises to be either unwilling or unable to spend insane amounts of cash for companies like Weta Dig - seems like a lot.

"Asylum" quality CGI? -No.

Haven't seen any of Rurouni Kenshin flicks yet, but they were co-produced by WB.

Toho's doing this.

The scene of the comets destroying the buildings definitely has worser CGI than i've seen in Asylum movies.

Agree to disagree...[frick] no.
Asylum neither has the budget nor the talent for anything similar to that comet effect.

Yeah not entirely impressed. Looks "okay", and for something based off one of the biggest hits in Japan AND North America in a while it should look much better than "okay".

Also, let's see if people bitch and moan about changing a cast of 99.9% German/European characters to Japanese. I bet we won't. Too busy complaining about it when it's the other way around.

I personally think Japan does crappy anime adaptations also. They made more crap than the U.S.

If Hollywood was to take it serious and attach talent to a anime project, I'm pretty sure it could be good.

My dream would be a collaboration of the two. That would be awesome.

Other than the sh*tstain DBZ movie, what other ones did the U.S mess up? Serious question.

Wow! a lot of haters. The Rurouni Kenshin Trilogy is one of the best manga/anime/CBM movies out, I'm glad they didn't fall to the white washing. Hopefully AoT will do well so we can get more of these none white washed movies.

@HachibiTheMC
Are you talking about Forbidden Kingdom? That Movie was the shit, the Yen and Chan fight scene was epic. Don't forget who have the best fight choreography, Hollywood has yet to show action as the Asian studios.
