James Mangold Confirms Hugh Jackman's "One Last Time" Is For THE WOLVERINE 3

While it was initially unclear whether Hugh Jackman was referring to Bryan Singer's X-Men: Apocalypse or James Mangold's sequel to The Wolverine, it appears he was referring to the latter.

Hugh Jackman's last time as Wolverine appears to be for director James Mangold's follow-up to 2013's The Wolverine. The third, solo Wolverine film is currently slated to arrive in theaters on March 3, 2017. It should be important to note that filming on X-Men: Apocalypse has yet to start so a phone call from Bryan Singer could change everything. Filming on Apocalypse is expected to start next month and the film currently has a May 27, 2016 release date.

Hollywood trade The Wrap also reports that their inside sources are telling them that Hugh Jackman is referring to a follow-up to The Wolverine and not X-Men: Apocolaypse.

So Apocalypse won't be a Wolverine heavy film? Sweet.

Hugh Jackman said a month ago he will play Wolverine till he dies.

My guess is this is the final Wolverine solo film and he will only show up in X-Men or X-Force or Deadpool films.

Damn, damn, damn.

Good news about Apocalypse but I was really hoping to avoid Wolverine 3.... Wasn't impressed with the Wolverine, the movie was all over the place

Hugh is awesome though, his dedication is amazing

I really don't see Old Man Logan working....

They would really, really, really, need to do a loose adaptation

What is the dumbest looking outfit Wolverine has worn in the comics?

He should wear that in Deadpool and say "I look stupid" to which Deadpool replies "I looked stupid in your film, you're gonna look stupid in mine".

Old Man Logan is the dumbest comic I've ever read in my life. [frick] Mark Millar that hack.

I [frick]ing hated, hated the whole Hulk/She-Hulk incest redneck hillbilly gang. Dumbest [frick]ing thing ever in a comic and totally out of character for both Hulk and She-Hulk.

At the same time, its Millar who's a [frick]ing hack. Only good book he has is that Spidey one he did. I know Fox wouldn't be able to use Hulk in an Old Man Logan film but still [frick] that comic.

So we're getting Old Man Logan with Professor X instead of Hawkeye?

Damn Hugh has been awesome as the character. Gonna miss seeing him onscreen. HE MUST wear the costume in Wolverine 3. Wonder when the X Force movie coming out and are they still gonna produce that live action tv series for Fox?

And can we still call this a sequel to The Wolverine since we just got a subtle reboot from X-Men: Days of Future Past?

Mark Miller is like a really cool concept guy but just terrible at writing it.

Definitely, the idea/concept of the Old Man Logan arc was better than Old Man Logan

Oh great, another lame Wolverine movie. I'm sure this one will be as terrible as the last two.

I'm a huge Wolvie fan but when people say things like "The Wolverine is in my top 3 CBMs of all time list" or whatever it makes me vomit in my mouth. His original film ruined Deadpool, and his last one ruined the Silver Samurai, both as the end villain. On top of that, they were both average movies and nothing more than that. What was so great about them to warrant praise?

I do like Huge Jackman a lot but I would like to see a Wolverine more like the comic (short, stocky, mean) when he gets rebooted. I will enjoy Jackman in the role in the meantime...if only his movies were better.

It doesn't mean he won't be in Apocalypse.

Wolverine 3 won't be shooting anytime soon, he may be preparing for Apocalypse after all and they plan to shott Wolverine 3 just after Apocalypse while he'll be in shape.

DevarikaWoulf@ well said bro ....the wolverine was a very average movie and kind of messy besides they ruined the silver samurai ...hope he gets an outfit though but I doubt that I will enjoy this one

I'm curious as to what direction Fox will take the X-Men franchise in once Apocalypse and the third Wolverine flick wrap up. They're gonna be losing their big players like Jackman and Lawrence, and I can't remember if McAvoy and Fassbender are leaving or not. Who knows, maybe they'll try a full-on reboot with new actors playing those roles.

I hope he still continues to cameo beyond Wolverine 3. I am more than happy for this to be his final solo film.

rockerdude22 - 3/29/2015, 9:24 AM
Oh yeah, he might appear in Deadpool. Wasn't there an early version of that movie's script where Deadpool made jokes about Hugh Jackman? I wonder if they still might do that. That would be pretty funny, especially if Hugh appears in the movie lol

@TronVin

His concepts at times are cool but man does he suck at execution. He's like David S Goyer.

The thing I hate the most is people think Millar is the Tarantino of comics which he isn't. Millar writes stuff for shock appeal like the Hulk/She-Hulk bullshit and the rape in Kick-Ass 2 and the whole gay brother impregnating his sister in Nemesis.

Tarantino has class and knows how to write good characters. Tarantino takes a genre and flips it on it's head. WW2 film about Nazi killing Jews. Pre-Civil War film about a black bounty hunter in the South. There are numerous examples. If anyone in comics is Tarantinoish, I would say Mike Mignola and Hellboy are. Not because I like Hellboy but Hellboy is very unorthodox in superheroes. Mike pitched it to DC and DC didn't want Hellboy due to the involvement of Hell in the Hellboy world. When you think of superheroes, you think mostly white humans who protect and serve us and are like gods from the heavens. Hellboy is a demon from hell who does what they do so that's kind of my point in taking a genre and flipping it.

@DrKinsolving

Yea it was.
