Well, this one seems to have come out of nowhere. We had a vague rumor earlier this year that an Inhumans movie was in development at Marvel. However, it was from an unusual source, not typically known for breaking exclusive news and offered such vague details that we counseled you to take the news with salt at the ready. However, the venerable Entertainment Weekly has also stated that an Inhumans movie is in the works so I think we can save our grains of salt for another day.
Just recently, I covered all the projects Marvel studios currently has in development and where the Marvel Cinematic Universe may go after the Avengers (Marvel Studios 2014 Plans. Who, What, And Just Cause....). However, the recent EW article on The Avengers , (which you can read here) listed a movie project that I didn't cover because there wasn't any news about scripts, potential directors, or casting. That property is of course, The Inhumans.
I think it's safe to say that this isn't wild speculation from EW as they had direct access to Kevin Feige, the man who decides which Marvel characters will be adapted for the big screen. The rumor back in March was that Marvel was currently shopping the project to writers and nothing new has been reported since. However, two rumors I heard not long after was that Joss Whedon (Serenity) and J. Michael Straczynski (Babylon 5) were both approached to gauge their interest in writing/(also directing for Whedon) The Inhumans. Of course, Whedon accepted the monumental task of directing The Avengers so I think it's safe to rule him out at this point. And Straczynski, who helped write Thor, was probably busy with World War Z. I'm pretty sure Marvel approached a ton of writers to "gauge interest" but it appears they definitely are looking in the right direction, for someone experienced with cosmic properties.
Whomever, Marvel ultimately hires will have a pretty difficult task writing for Black Bolt, a character who can't speak (unless he wants to kill you).
The Inhumans are a fictional race of superhumans, created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby. This race appears in various comic book series published by Marvel Comics and exists in that company's shared universe, known as the Marvel Universe.
The comic book series of this name have usually focused more specifically on the adventures of the Inhuman Royal Family, and many people associate the name "Inhumans" with this particular team of super-powered beings. (However, recent series have looked at the "new generation" of the Inhuman society.)
The Inhumans first appeared in Fantastic Four #45 (December 1965), though members Medusa and Gorgon appeared in earlier issues of that series (#36 and #44, respectively). Their home, the city of Attilan, was first mentioned years earlier, in a "Tuk the Caveboy" story written and drawn by Jack Kirby that appeared in Captain America Comics #1 (March 1941). The city was described as the home of a race that was evolutionarily advanced when human beings were still in the caveman era.
