The Avengers wrapped shooting in Cleveland a few months ago and then moved on to New York before finally wrapping. While in Cleveland, set photos and videos emerged on a daily basis sparking instant analysis and debate on the internet. Many were worried that the movie was being spoiled by the onslaught of material that fans managed to capture. Well according to Cincinnati.com,Joss Whedon managed to shoot for nearly two weeks in a location far away from the prying eyes of fans. While the city was whipped in a frenzy about casting calls for extras, Whedon was hard at work filming scenes while they were distracted.

The production apparently shot at Wilmington Air Park for two weeks and apparently wanted to blow stuff up.

"They asked if there was anything they could demolish, and we said no,” said Kevin Carver, Clinton County Port Authority executive director.

Cincinatti.com goes on to report that:
“The Avengers” secretly shot for two weeks here after an open casting call in Cleveland July 15-16, and before the downown Cleveland steets scenes in mid-August.

Marvel leased the huge Building F – a two-story, 1 million-square-foot former DHL sorting center – for two months, Carver said.

A Boeing 767 “loaded with people and equipment flew in and taxied right over there,” Carver said. “Part of what attracted them was that this was a secure airport. They filmed behind the fence. People weren’t allowed access to the area.

“There were some pyrotechnics. We got them the permits to do them,” he said.

Well, this is good news for those worried that too much of the film was being revealed in set photos. I'm sure we'll have plenty of surprises in store when “The Avengers” opens May 4, 2012.

The Avengers is a team of superheroes, appearing in magazines published by Marvel Comics. The team made its debut in The Avengers #1 (Sept. 1963), and was created by writer-editor Stan Lee and artist / co-plotter Jack Kirby, following the trend of super-hero teams after the success of DC Comics with the Justice League.

The Avengers is an upcoming American superhero film produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Pictures, based upon the Marvel Comics superhero team of the same name. It is part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which crosses over several Marvel superhero films including Iron Man (2008), The Incredible Hulk (2008), Iron Man 2 (2010), Thor (2011) and Captain America: The First Avenger (2011). The film is written and directed by Joss Whedon and features an ensemble cast, which includes Robert Downey, Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Samuel L. Jackson, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Mark Ruffalo and Cobie Smulders. The Avengers tells the story of Nick Fury, director of the peacekeeping organization S.H.I.E.L.D., who recruits Iron Man, Hulk, Thor, and Captain America to save the world from destruction.

Development of The Avengers began when Marvel Studios received a grant from Merrill Lynch in April 2005. After the success of the film Iron Man, Marvel announced that The Avengers would be released in July 2011. With the signing of Scarlett Johansson in March 2009, the film was pushed back for a 2012 release. Whedon was brought on board in April 2010 and rewrote the screenplay that was originally written by Zak Penn. Production began in April 2011 in Albuquerque, New Mexico before moving to Cleveland, Ohio in August.

The Avengers is scheduled to be released on May 4, 2012 in the United States.

C'mon DC fans! I'm being serious here, why are you disliking all the Avengers articles? It's not Marvel's fault that WB/DC can't get their act together for a JLA film. Just enjoy the fact that you're getting another CBM, which if it's successful, could lead to a JLA movie.

@ThreeBigTacos - I seem to remember something like ths also. There was video of people watching form across the street, and a crane holding a box of explosives that blew up. Of course, that could have been a different location.
