COMICS: Ivan Reis Replacing Jim Lee on JUSTICE LEAGUE

The rumored creative switch on DC's Justice League series is a go as Aquaman artist Ivan Reis has been confirmed to take the reigns from Jim Lee. Covers for Justice League #15 and #16 inside as well.

The change will go into effect on December 26th with the fifteenth isssue of Justice League. Jim Lee is reportedly stepping down to shift his attention to another DC title which will be announced at New York Comic-Con 2012.

Justice League #15 and #16 covers

Justice League #11 cover by Jim Lee (for comparison)

Writer Geoff Johns on the switch-
Johns:“There is no other choice for the next A-Star art team on JUSTICE LEAGUE. Ivan Reis and Joe Prado bring power, grace, emotion and epic storytelling worthy of the world’s greatest super heroes. From GREEN LANTERN to BLACKEST NIGHT to AQUAMAN, I couldn’t ask for better collaborators. The second year of JUSTICE LEAGUE will begin an adventurous, mysterious and heroic storyline focusing on our members as their greatest secrets are revealed...and the repercussions change the world. Ivan and Joe begin with a story they were born to draw — THRONE OF ATLANTIS — a story between JUSTICE LEAGUE and AQUAMAN that will have the League experiencing what Aquaman does — they’ll be caught between land and sea. With new relationships developing – like Wonder Woman and Superman – new members coming on – like Shazam! and the all-new Atom — and new threats rising — like Ocean Master & Atlantis — the Justice League will grow and change as we march towards the impending TRINITY WAR.”

As you can see, there isn't exactly a huge drop-off in talent here, by any stretch of the imagination. Reis has been tearing it up over on Aquaman and I'm sure he'll do the same for Justice League, which is starting to pick up steam with Issue #12.

*Tip of the hat is in order to BleedingCool who called this a while back.

Ivan Reis is a new fave of mine. The way he draws Superman makes me love the character even more. I love that he's on JL now. It means Lee can move on to Man of Steel :D

Honestly these days, colorist are the make or break members of the comic book art team. They can make great pencils look horrid and horrid pencils look great.

Even if you take away the coloring I think Reis is a better artist IMO.

Nice news.

Anyway, DC seem to be pulling a Marvel and letting their heroes fight each other more often. (Baz against Justice League, now Aquaman against Justice League, then Trinity War...)

This. Looks. Freaking. AWESOME!

It's perfect! Jim Lee going to do a Superman comic (one hopefully better then the crap we have from Superman in the new 52), and Ivan stepping in for him! Man, I am a lot more excited for the coming issues of JL then I was before. Plus, Shazam joining the team will hopefully be awesome. Then there's the unanswered stuff of course like, where's Flash? Why are they fighting Aquaman? What went down with the fight with Baz since he isn't with the team and Hal is still gone? AARG, I want to know! Lol.

@LEVITIKUZ

There was a fight between members of the JL (a little dispute actually that went public). Green Lantern decided to take the blame and leave the JL. Also he had other duties.
Anyway, in GL#1 he was no longer a GL member (see War of the Green Lanterns/Aftermath), but Sinestro needed his help. Thaal created a ring for Hal, they fought against the Sinestro Corps, Indigo Tribe and Black Hand (Black Lantern).
The duo is now trapped in some kind of other dimension linked to the Black Lantern Corps.

Hal left the JL, then was kicked out of the GL Corps and is now MIA.

Awesome news! At least it will look better. Nothing against Jim Lee, the guy is a modern legend in my eyes, but his work on JL has been lacking. Everyone looks the same and action scenes are just confusing. Reis is a master of creating huge, complicated scenes and making them coherent.

@LEVITIKUZ

That would be more Wally West's job, but he has not appeared yet in the DCnU.
Hal is supposed to be the cocky arrogant guy. Wally is the one who makes jokes.

The JL don't know about the latest events regarding Hal Jordan. Only Carol Ferris is aware that he was fighting alongside Sinestro.

Baz will be in JLA, starting next year (there are two JL titles, JL and JLA).

Amazing artist. Aquaman being dead middle though threw me off at first. Anyone think they'll actually let him lead? THAT will be different.

Crap, I just subbed for Lee's art too. I'll really miss the hatch shading. The new art just doesn't feel like a comic.

So, I would really like to know who is replacing Johns and Reis on Aquaman. They CANNOT let that series go to the crapper. Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo? They do great on Batman. Maybe. For the art I like: Doug Mahnke, Nicola Scott, Eddy Barrows ain't bad either. They just need a writer as good as Johns. Suggestions?
