Once upon a time, a young Kevin Feige, current president of Marvel Studios, and Geoff Johns, current chief creative officer at DC Entertainment got started in Hollywood at the production company run by Richard and Lauren Shuler Donner. Today, they're two of the most influential people in the comic book adaptation business. Recently, Crave caught up with Donners where they asked a number of questions including how things were progressing with Days of Future Past and whether they'd team-up with their former employee Kevin Feige for an Avengers/X-Men collaboration.

How is X-Men: Days of Future Past going?

Lauren Shuler Donner: Not quite fast enough but it’s coming along. We have a great treatment and we’re just waiting for the screenplay.

Do you still have Jennifer Lawrence now that she's become a megastar thanks to The Hunger Games?

Lauren Shuler Donner: Yeah, definitely.

Now that The Avengers has done so well, it seems like the other studios with Marvel properties can see the advantage of making a deal. Can you see a world where this generation of X-Men could be in an Avengers movie?

Lauren Shuler Donner: I would love it. I would love it. I personally have close ties to Marvel because of Kevin Feige, because Kevin worked for me. But to take our characters and mingle them in the way that they were written, yeah, absolutely.

There's more at the source, including what they think about converting the original Superman to 3D for a re-release so be sure to click the source link below at the bottom to read the entire interview.

That would be awesome. In fact, I think that an AvX movie could be better than Civil War (as long as they don't follow the comic's storyline).

Yeah, I'm sure it would be great to see Cyclops get totally [frick]ed over on the big screen too.

Thankfully, I can't imagine that Feige is desperate to work with Donner again when you compare the kind of films he's responsible for to the shit she's produced.

AAAAHHHWWWSOMAAAGE!!!
They definitely shouldn't follow the comics event, though. "No more Pheonix"? Really?!
I get the feeling that First Class will be the reboot, by the time DOFP is over, sadmamba@SageMode.

It would be good to have them make a deal, but not with any current Fox or Sony continuity. First Class wouldn't work as well in the Avengers universe, and personally while the new franchises for X-men and Spider-man may be better than previous, I'd still like Marvel controlling the exact story and casting.

AvX might be good, (as long as it doesn't follow the comic), but Civil War would be better as they have more source material to pull from. I'd say have a Avengers/X-men Team up film, put a bit of AvX in there but don't make the whole film centered around it. Save heroes vs heroes for a Civil War movie.

I Agree With @PaulRom, If They Maybe Switch Up A Few Things Along The Way, It Would Probably Take The Place Of Avatar As The 2nd Biggest Movie In The World!

Make a team up, not a stand off. And the hell wiith the phoniex cuz they'd have to introduce SOMETHING of th Shi'ar to explain it properly, and hile GoTG is around, I doupt Donner and Singer will want to go that route.

And enough about Fox they don't meddle like other studios and First Class was at least a good film. Just not a faithful adaptation except for Xavier and Magneto.

Fox wouldn't even let Marvel use(not get back but use) characters from the F4 universe.

This wouldn't happen for money purposes, wouldn't do this unless the Avengers brand started getting stale at the box office. With the cash cow the Avengers has become "even influencing the comic side" they would not even think about dividing movie revenue with another studio. These men and woman in charge of the money aspect of movies are business thinking people that think only in how to make more money for there respecting studios. So unfortunately for fans of these series there is virtually no chance of this happening. As one of those fans I do think it would be awesome to see on screen with a good interpretation of the comic story.

Y'know, we wouldn't have The Avengers or Feige if not for this woman and the original X-MEN film. It was the bandwagon of that movie that made all of the CBMs of the last decade possible and of a decent quality with respect for the source material and the fanbase.
toco@ Damn skippy.
Marvel87@ That "use of" FF characters would have been exclusive to Disney. Of course they are not letting them have that. They'd rather give them Daredevil. Which is what they did.

No, Spider-Man from Sony can join MCU, but none of FOX's stuff. Marvel needs complete control. It also really wouldn't work with any current X-Men thing; how have they all been doing their thing all this time without crossing paths?

No, the mutants in the MCU exist but they can't be known by the public yet. They would affect people's perceptions of the Avengers too much.

BUT - I love the idea of seeing the original Superman film on the big screen (in 3D is cool too)

Fox or Donner? Cuz if this deal doesn't go through it'll be because of Fox. They are still, and will remain the superior STUDIO, just not the cbm creator. Possibly.

@brazillianbatman: Where does it say that humans aren't prejudice against the Hulk? Everyone's prejudice against the Hulk simply because he's an outrageously strong monster. Man origins would've been worth watching if they just kept deadpool deadpool. But he wouldnt have been that funny because he would've been dealing with the pain of the cancer vs the healing factor for the first time. It wouldve been more angry and witty sarcasm.

And giving him cyclops' optic blasts and will.I.am's teleportation was overkill.
NoAssemblyReqd
NoAssemblyReqd - 10/6/2012, 9:03 AM
I am vehemently against any of the other studios' films merging with the MCU. Would rather those characters be bought out by Marvel and re-introduced in a way that fits into the MCU's already intricately woven mythos. Fat chance of that happening any time in the next decade -- and I'm perfectly fine with that.
