Idris Elba Has Met With Producers About Playing JAMES BOND

With Skyfall reported to be Daniel Craig's best outing yet as 007 the actor is far from done with James Bond. However, that hasn't stopped the Broccolli family from looking to the future it seems.

Naomie Harris, one of the stars of Skyfall has let slip that the guiding force behind the Bond franchise is already meeting with potential Daniel Craig replacements. The actress confirmed that Idris Elba met with Bond producer Barbara Broccoli regarding the role.

In case you don't know who the Broccolli's are, back in 1964, Albert "Cubby" Broccoli produced the first film adaptation of Ian Fleming's James Bond series and the Broccolli family has controlled the franchise ever since---every script, director and lead actor needs their approval. So news that Idris Elba has met with one of the members of that family, Barbara Broccolli, means that things may be trending upward when it comes to his chances of playing James Bond although he'll have to wait a while as Craig has signed on for 2 more installment in the franchise.

"I didn't realize that there was this talk [about a black Bond], and then I did a film with Idris, and he said that he met Barbara Broccoli," Harris told The Huffington Post.

"And that it does seem like there is a possibility in the future that there could very well be a black James Bond. And I would have to vote for Idris because I just finished working with him and he's a great guy."

Elba has previously stated that he'd be honored to play the part if it comes my way."

Also reportedly eyeing the role or at least discussing the possibility are Michael Fassbender, Hugh Jackman, Tom Hardy and Christopher Nolan as director. Keep in mind that it's unclear at the moment whether they've only met with Elba or if they've had several preliminary meeting with interested parties.

Skyfall opens November 9th in the U.S.

I could see him as one of the next Bond villains.

Not gonna happen for at least 6-7 years Craig is signed up for 4 more bond movies although he is a great actor and as long as bond is still the same person I wouldn't mind seeing him in the role

Craig is still signed up for at least two more Bond movies, and after that I'm not sure how they would explain Bond suddenly becoming black. Idris is great and he'd make a great Bond, but at the same time I don't want them to recast the character as randomly having a change in skin colour, nor do I want them to reboot the series again to explain the skin colour change that way, and the way I see it, the series is about one character named James Bond, not multiple agents assuming the same codename.

I've said it before though, if Skyfall is Judi Dench's last Bond film as M like some people have suggested, and assuming Ralph Fiennes' Gareth Mallory doesn't become the new M, Idris would be awesome as the next head of MI6 and Bond's new boss. It'd be cool to see an M closer to Bond's age and perhaps one who is in the field a bit more than previous versions.

@Spideyguy94 2 more not 4. Craig is 44 and Elba is 40 so I personally think it unlikely to happen BUT you never know.

I guess it would be okay. But they would have to reboot the franchise, or reveal that each Bond is a specific person and each time they cange actors there is a new bond.

People do not just turn black. If they do it Daniel's bond has to die, and a new Bond be brought in.

I'd definitely like to see Idris Elba as Bond. The dude is a fantastic actor, one of the best around right now. Luther is no Bond obviously, but it proves he can play a gritty law-man very convincingly.

I'd pick Michael Fassbender as a close second.

I like the new bond but he's not the best. It's sort of missing the humor, charm from the past bonds.

Wait what? The bond films have continuity? So Craigs bond is story wise the same as Sean Connerys Bond?

Bond is British and a man, that's it. Whilst his background MAY have meant it was unlikely wasn't white 50 years ago, it certainly doesn't mean he HAS to be white now at all. From reading the books and watching the films I can't remember a single thing that would mean his character traits, skills, personality etc.. mean he has to be white.
Also they don't have to explain him being white any more than they have to explain why he is suddenly taller, shorter, Scottish accented, English accented, blonde and so on. They don't have to explain that the British secret service has vampires working for it allowing Bond to be around 90 years old and appear in in his 40s. They don't explain how he was fighting the Soviets in the cold war in the 1960s, but still fighting for Britain in 2012.

IF they try and cast a white guy as shaft, all hell will break loose. Cast a white guy as George Jefferson... people need to get their heads on straight, this is a stupid idea and it has nothing to do with race... stop changing our effin' characters into something else. What's next, green smurfs? [frick]s sake.

Making Bond a black man isn't showing progression of racial tolerance by allowing an originally caucasian character to have different ethnicity...it's a publicity stunt gimmick!

What needs to be stated & shouted from the rooftops is that there should be "new & original" characters & properties that have racially diverse leading men & women.

Why pander & cause turmoil with established properties that already work as they have from the start, sorry folks James Bond,Superman & Elvis are all white guys & always should be.
Uh,I think Elvis was white.

Make Black Panther or Luke Cage movies & the like..it worked for Blade & it can work for any established ethnic creation.
Quit stirring the pot Hollywood & give other races equal time to shine.

Does this idiot NOT know that Ian Fleming's James Bond in the novels is depicted as a Caucasian MI6 Agent, who is depicted as a sandy blonde hair and green/hazel eyed munipulating ASSASSIN. HE IS NOT A BLACK British or American, or white am...erican guy... He is not Asian, he is not hispanic, he is not middle-eastern.

Making changes to Bond like changing Peter Parker, Clark Kent, and Bruce Wayne. Also it wouldn't make sense, because it's NOT A CODE NAME! 007 is a white british agent. lol MICHAEL FASSBENDER should be the Next James Bond. Idris Elba would be a great villian at best.

I agree with the Not changing his character. If they want to make "BLACK MI6 AGENT" than they should make up another agent with a different name who is just as good.

@ Splenda

Yeah, you're right, BUT Fassbender LOOKS the part, he depicts the part just like D. Craig. BLONDE HAIR GREEN EYES...etc etc. Also, Connery is scottish, but he's not even considered the best over the years.

Quit make everything about COLOR, go make your own damn characters if you want them so bad!! LOL

Black, white, makes no difference to me. But Craig signed on for more, so this seems like it doesn't matter for a while.

I personally don't care.

Do I think Mr. Elba is one helluva actor? Indeed.
But, like someone else already stated, I'd kinda prefer Mr. Fassbender as the next Bond. From "Shame" to "Prometheus" (which also starred Mr. Elba), Mr. Fassenber has captivated me. I think he'd be a killer Bond. However, even if they did change "M" to a male actor and made Mr. Elba the next 007, it wouldn't bother me.

We'll all just have to wait and see.

Wow, that could be good. Out of those other choices, a definite no for me with Hugh Jackman. Just do not see it at all. Love Elba, Fassbender, and Hardy though. If they decided not to go with a black Bond then Fassbender and Hardy are my two top choices.
