THE AVENGERS Earned $202.4M On Blu-ray &DVD In 2012

Marvel's The Avengers earned a staggering $202.4M on blu-ray and dvd in fourteen weeks of release. Available for only four weeks in 2012, The Dark Knight Rises earned a combined $127.6M from its blu-ray and dvd sales.

Pretty impressive numbers for the two top superhero films of 2012. There are 'supposed' summer blockbusters that don't earn that much during their theatrical runs. Also, keep in mind that these numbers are just for blu-ray and dvd and don't include earnings from the rental or digital market. Of course both films have added to these totals in the new year.

Nice! Now if only Dredd could rack up some equally solid sales (or at least some decent numbers), then maybe we could get a sequel sometime in the near future...

I would like to take this comment space to say both were fantastic films and deserve it.

Lets keep it that way.

you'll make up your mind one minute you're saying the avengers is boring & overrated the next you praise it by saying its fantastic. :D

Making money like this makes me wonder exactly how many 'Phases' they are already planning to boot out! Marvel are very forward thinking and open minded for a film studio, who knows what they might already have planned beyond Phase 3!

if i hear anyone start going off about how, "HAHA THE AVENGERS KICKED BATMAN'S ASS NOLAN'S A DOUCHEBAG!" or vice versa then i'll will punch a baby lol but seriously no offense to Mark Julian this just adds fuel to a petty pissing contest.

@Levitikuz: Django was so damn good! I really need to go see it again before it leaves theaters. It would be my third time.

this is the edition i got & i've an uncut copy from the u.s as well.

@ flames809

considering sales of the film will slow down after its released,i wonder how much the dark knight rises made in the same period of time.

as for the avengers

its first week of release on home media in the U.S.the film topped the nielsen videoscan first alert chart, which tracks overall disc sales,as well as the dedicated blu-ray disc sales chart with 72% of unit sales coming from blu-ray,a record high for a new-release in which both the dvd & blu-ray formats were released simultaneously.23% of total avengers sales came from the higher-priced blu-ray 3D combo pack.

the avengers came out 25.9.12 so anyone who wanted it brought it then, some people may of wanted it for christmas as well but brought it when it first came out.

the dark knight rises came out 3.12.12 just in time for christmas maybe thats why it made that kind of money in four weeks.
