Total Film has just released a mini tease from their latest issue which contains an interview with Avengers director Joss Whedon. Below is a quote from Whedon where he talks about S.H.I.E.L.D. fitting into the 'mythology' of The Avengers.

"The S.H.I.E.L.D. show fits into the mythology of The Avengers remarkably well and they both complement each other. So it just seemed like a no-brainer – although it has required a lot of my brain to get it right.

We have just finished shooting and I am excited. I think Marvel fans will appreciate what we have done.”

There's more from Whedon in the magazine so if the above quote has piqued your interest (which is precisely what its designed to do), feel free to click the source link below to make a purchase. The S.H.I.E.L.D. television show is expected to air sometime during the fall of 2013. From previous quotes, we know the show will look to focus on the regular individuals caught between the spectacular escapades of heroes like Iron Man and Captain America.

Coulson didn't die, it's as simple as that. He was stabbed, was going into shock and passed out, fury lied to get a reaction out of the boys, bam you have the avengers, and a shield tv show!

Yes, passed out..with his eyes open, and pretended to stop breathing too just for extra effect.

Its gonna be great... Joss has never had the respect of the money men before...

He no longer has to fight quite so many battles to get his vision to the audience... this is gonna be special!

So everyone complains when a director says they will put a little more realism in their comic book movies.

But when they bring Coulson back, everyone still complains?

I don't get it, you all complain when the movies stray away from the most fictional parts of the comic books, and when they bring some back in a TV Show/Movie you complain because it's stupid?

Why is it so hard to accept that he's still alive. Nick Fury is in charge of an international espionage agency.......he's in charge of spies and secret agents! He's a liar! Plus the Avengers themselves will be just as pissed when they find out too. It will make for some pretty good drama. Its not liketheir going to say"What? Coulsons still alive? You mean you manipulated us? Well then we will just ignore the crap load of lives we saved and break up our boy band". It wouldn't happen.

The "bringing him back from the dead" is actually in itself kind of an homage to comics if you think about it. These movies have a lot of stuff happen in them that could never ever really happen, but everything not being what it seemed at Coulson's death is unbelievable ?
MrCBM56
MrCBM56 - 4/13/2013, 12:09 PM
You guys are idiots. Bringing Coulson back is genius. It brings in more storytelling and it could expand the Marvel Universe technology/tools (Life model decoys). And did you hear what Fury said in the avengers, he said that the avengers needed the "push". If fury told them that Coulson was still alive, they wouldn't react the way they did. Also, Fury never said Coulson died, he specifically said Coulson is "down". It's the little things you gotta hear/see and than connect the dots.

When an important character dies, they usually give you closure. When it happens offscreen, that's usually your que to accept the possibility that their not really dead.

After careful consideration I have concluded I no longer give a crap how they bring Coulson back, I'm just going to be glad to see him. I was troubled at first but honestly I like him so much just skip how it was done and I'll move on and enjoy it.
kemuael
kemuael - 4/13/2013, 12:39 PM
is it possible that fury lied to the avengers so theyll get the "push" they needed to defeat loki, if so its very dark and twisted, welcome to the Marvel Universe :-D
RonSwanson
RonSwanson - 4/13/2013, 12:41 PM
If Tony stark can survive shrapnel in his heart using new tech, they could save Coulson from dying without the knowledge of the Avengers/audience. It could be revealed that they saved him using experimental SHIELD tech, (maybe a nod to the Vision Rumors), but kept if from the Avengers as a catalyst for them to assemble. A man made heart made of modern day tech isn't that hard to believe.

no one even bother with loki not dying from falling to oblivion. yes he's a demigod, but come on, he fell in a [frick]ing cosmic hole.
other asgardians in thor died by less.
if i had thought coulson was dead, i would have been pissed
he lives, get over it. oh and get over that he is the nick fury of "agents of shield"

...was the name change really necessary?

CouchTater - 4/13/2013, 12:59 PM
Either the Coulson that died was a Life Model Decoy or the Coulson in the show will be a LMD. Tony Stark's answering machine referenced them in The Avengers. I believe the one that was shot by Loki was an LMD. The real Coulson would not have commited suicide taking on Loki by himself that way. It was part of Fury's plan to spur the rest of the team into action just like he did with the Captain America trading cards.

CPBuff22 - 4/13/2013, 1:32 PM
Coulson didn't die. It makes sense if you think about it. He basically told Fury to give them someone to Avenge. He passes out from shock and is rushed to a SHIELD off sight medical facility and they fix him. In a world where Captain America can be frozen in ice during WWII and brought back in 2012 & a man can become a huge hulking green monster, not to mention the aliens and Gods... why is this so unbelievable?

I like that they went this rout... it lends its self to establishing Nick Fury as a man who will do anything to get the job done as long as it doesn't cross his own moral code, a code that is very limited.
MarkCassidy
MarkCassidy - 4/13/2013, 1:36 PM
Guys, no matter how you feel about Coulson coming back there is NO doubt that he was supposed to have died in The Avengers. That's how it was written, that's how it happened, and it stood, UNTIL they realized just how popular the character was and how much cash they could make by keeping him alive, and that's when the plan was hatched. If you think it was always part of the master plan to have him return when the movie was being shot, Whedon wouldn't have SHOWN HIM DIE onscreen, it would have been left more ambiguous.

But believe what you like, personally -- as much as I like the actor and character -- I think it's an insult and lessens the impact of The Avengers.

@jessepostal...just got back and you almost had wine shooting out my nose! lol, like a proper beavis&butthead moment! :-)
Back to the subject, he is a great character and I am glad to hear of his return, I think people just feel a bit cheated as his "death" was one of the few emotionally pivotal moments of the Avengers, a woe betide some say that the film was not perfect?!?! It took lots of money and everybody knows that money means everything to americans :-p

Marvel plans things years in advance, we know this. Coulson has been popular long before the avengers, and marvel knew that. He had his own one shot. Joss has killed people off, and brought them back, before, multiple times. The comics the movies are based on use this tactic frequently. Knowing all this, people think that Marvel just up and realized after avengers, that coulson was popular and decided to bring him back after the fact. All because it appeared like he took his last breath. Oh and Nick f'in fury, said so. The guy who had been lying through out the whole movie. The guy whos job it is to lie.
KainAndDisabel
KainAndDisabel - 4/13/2013, 4:44 PM
@jesse...Ive got a dodgy cam/cop of ED but when I found out that over 90% of the effects are practical I would rather watch it in its full glory.(Loved the originals but the change in tone did throw me a bit) I will book in when I get rid of this f!ckin Manflu, I was brought up watching Twin peaks and that gave me a taste for alternative/thinking films so Ive seen nearly all of Mr Lynch,s including the slightly obscure one like Naked Lunch, (hey life aint straight forward so why should entertainment be?) slightly ironic that i am on a comicbookmovies but then again ive never known a genre that has been so under rated on its creative narrative, and after the amount of resurrections that appear in the books, one (blatant) change of the original sript, and only because of fan reaction they moan!!! just because Marvel listen!!! lol!

Good call, def wait for the quality because its a gore whores dream, I personally didn't think too much of it but I won't say anything until you see it. Haha your using my words, I had that shit two weeks ago. Awesome, I never find too many lynch fans. I just picked up a collection of his shorts and actually a few months back found out he was a musician as well. His music is just like his movies :) I think you hit the nail on the head with that quote. People are so sensitive and selective these days, kind of seems like they make up the rules as they go. O well they'll get over it
