Live-Action 'RUROUNI KENSHIN' Recieves 2 Sequels

The Japan produced live-action adaptation of the popular anime and manga, "Rurouni Kenshin" will reportedly receive not one but two more additional installments that cover the Kyota arc. Lead actor Takeru Sato confirmed to return in starring role.

Thursday's edition of the "Jump Square" magazine has leaked online early. Within its pages is an announcement that two additional live-action "Rurouni Kenshin" films have been officially given the green light with the first set to premiere next summer. Both films will cover the Kyoto arc of Nobuhiro Watsuki's original manga, which sees Kenshin placed in circumstances that lead to a direct confrontation with the skilled swordsman who replaced him as the top assassin in the Ishin Shishi.

Lead actor Takeru Satoh will return as Kenshin. No further details on any other returning cast members at the moment. The first film performed higher than expected, earning ~$70 million dollars on a very modest budget. I loved the animated series and the idea of the wandering ronin samurai with a reverse blade. I would like to see an Hollywood take on it someday.

Gotta agree with Grif.

In by Japanese movie standards, this movie's acting, fight scenes, and everything else was [frick]ing horrible.

Japanese film makers of these type of films are soooo focused on the look of it (which they don't even do that all that well) and pay little to no attention to acting, script, and everything else that makes a film worth seeing.

i watched the trailer and didn't watch the entire film because it looks like they literally made a live action anime or manga film which doesn't translate well onto film. i would love to see a Kenshin film done up like 13 Assassins! now that is a badass movie!!

I really liked this movie. I'm glad it's getting sequels. Two movies over the Kyoto arc means they don't have to compress the story so much as they did in the first film. This is great news.

@MrSuperheromoviefan: The Avengers is an American comic book. I'm not a huge fan of anime or manga and so people that do probably like this film, but some stuff bothers me so i passed on this. The action looked great for sure but the rest of the movie looked bleh to me. modern japanese culture and media is strange to me and i don't really understand it. to each his own.


This is what i mean. give me a Kenshin film like they used to be made and you've got yourself a deal!

This was actually the best anime film adaptation Ive seen. It was hands down amazing. Im glad this is greenlit for two sequels.

This was one of the more well made manga adaptations I've seen. Great to hear that its getting a sequel! Probably my fave manga series next to Full Metal Alchemist

That's the whole point of the character. He's small and doesn't look formidable. His opponents are quick to underestimate him that is until he fights. The character of Kenshin is based on a real guy named Kawakami Gensai who was known as one of the 4 great assassins of the bakumatsu. Gensai was short and often mistaken for a woman but he was one of the most feared assassins.
