When asked if Wolverine is a role that he's possessive of, Hugh Jackman responded, "Wolverine is like Bond. These roles are greater than I am as an actor." He continued, "It will always live on and outlive me. It'll be passed on, and I'll be in the old people's home, showing my old movies and telling anyone who will listen that I was much better than whoever is playing it now." But that doesn't mean that such a day is coming anytime soon. While "The Wolverine" opens in US theaters next week, Jackman is currently in the midst of filming his lead role in"X-Men: Days of Future Past."
Praising director Bryan Singer and his new "X-Men: First Class" cast mates, Jackman implied that he's up for more Wolverine after that film comes out. Stated Jackman, " You may find it surprising to hear, but I'm loving it and feeling rejuvenated by it. For me, and I'm well aware there's way greater powers at play than me and my decision, it's more about: Do I still have something to offer to it? Is there something different we can explore? Is there a reason to tell another story? Without that, I won't do it."
When "X-Men: Days of Future Past" is released in US theaters on May 23, 2014, Jackman will be 45, going on 46. It will mark the seventh time he's played the character on screen. Do you think there's still more for Jackman to accomplish with Wolverine?
"Days of Future Past" is a popular storyline in the Marvel Comics comic book The Uncanny X-Men issues #141 and #142, published in 1981. It deals with a dystopian alternative future in which mutants are incarcerated in internment camps. An adult Kate Pryde transfers her mind into her younger self, the present-day Kitty Pryde, who brings the X-Men to prevent a fatal moment in history which triggers anti-mutant hysteria.
The upcoming sequel to X-Men: The Last Stand and X-Men: First Class is officially titled X-Men: Days of Future Past and will be directed by Bryan Singer, director of the first two X-Men films. Several actors from the past of the franchise are confirmed to return, including Hugh Jackman (Wolverine), Halle Berry (Storm), Ian McKellen (Magneto), Patrick Stewart (Professor X), Anna Paquin (Rogue), Shawn Ashmore (Iceman), Ellen Page (Shadowcat), Daniel Cudmore (Colossus), Michael Fassbender (Magneto), Nicholas Hoult (Beast), Jennifer Lawrence (Mystique), and James McAvoy (Professor X).
