BOX OFFICE: TRANSFORMERS: AGE OF EXTINCTION Passes $400 Million Worldwide

Transformers: Age of Extinction Passes $400 Million Worldwide

Transformers: Age of Extinction has now passed $400 million at the worldwide box office, with over $128 million domestically and $284 million overseas for a total of $412 million. Though it looks set to be the lowest grossing instalment in the franchise in North America, it will likely be the highest grossing Transformers movie to date internationally. China has contributed a huge amount to these numbers as it opened bigger there than domestically. Love them or hate them, the fact is that this is a franchise which is going to be around for a very long time!

Now, about those reviews. At a recent press conference, director Michael Bay is quoted as saying, "I work as hard as I can and I'm glad that people are liking the movie besides the critics, let's just forget the critics. The people in the audience are liking the movies - that's what I make movies for. I think that they should make it mandatory for reviewers that they sit in the audience - just by themselves surrounded by a real audience,""They applaud, they laugh, they cheer. I don't know what movie [the critics are] reviewing. People walked out happy, that's what we're trying to do. We're just entertainers."

What did you guys think of Transformers: Age of Extinction?

There's no doubt about it. People love giant robots tearing sh*t apart.

Meanwhile, summer blockbusters (like Edge of Tomorrow and Snowpiercer) that actually manage to be smart, engaging, non-offensive, and you know, legitimately action-packed, struggle to stay afloat at the box office while this garbage franchise continues to rake in the cash. It's enough to make you give up on all of humanity.

Bay is a trickster who fools the general audience into believing critics are snooty, pretentious, uptight douchebags who are incapable of having fun and compare every movie to something along the lines of 2001 or Apocalypse Now.

Hate to break it to you, Bay, but critics love escapist entertainment. Your movies just suck.

By the way, nobody applauded at the end if your 3 hour assault on the senses.

I pretty much like most movies I see...rarely is there one I just don't like, well, this movie is the latter, really sucked imo...I wished they'd do something drastically different (um, no humans and off of earth)...but the way this franchise makes bank, they don't or won't need to change...and I enjoyed T1 and T3 a lot...had hopes this one would be great, oh well, maybe next time...

@CaptainObvious, Couldn't agree more! Bay knows he's in a win-win situation. Get bad reviews? Just paint ALL critics as snobby, pretentious killjoys who don't know how to have fun. After all, he knows he's marketing this movie to the lowest common denominator of audiences and he knows he's just going to keep raking in the $$$. Critics hate these movies because these movies are terrible. It's really not that hard to understand.

Out of all the 80's cartoon/toy movies, at least it's not as bad as the GI Joe movies. God, I couldn't even finish the last one.
