If Green Arrow beats Ra's al Ghul, I'm calling bullshit, Ra's is usually like 10 steps ahead of anyone. Only Batman can even tie with the Great Demon.

They want to make a batman show so badly with all of these batman villains honestly I wouldn't mind them introducing Bruce sometime next season then giving him a show, yes batman is overused but he hasn't had a live action show in a while and now with the tv universes being separated they have freedom to use all of the batman characters

Don't forget that this show is an ADAPTation of the comics. Things have been change to adapt to the story the writers, producers, directors want to tell. So yeah Oliver is a far greater hand to hand combatant than his comicbook counterpart and yes he probably will hold his own, but still lose to Ra's, so get over it already. Anyways they are using swords and Oliver is an expert marksman(not on Ra's level but he's closer to his skills with a sword than his hand to hand combat), and if he were aloud to use his bow he would stand a better chance even in the comics. Meryln is the closest archer to out match Oliver's archery skills in the DC universe, not even Batman or Deathstroke could master archery on his near metahuman level.

It's so weird how nobody making the show seemrf to have gotten the idea that they could make the reception of Nable as Ra's that much more favourable by simply tweaking his appearance a little. It really should have been no effort at all to make hair and beard closer to the classic Ra's look.

Look I`m not the biggest Arrow fan I admit and I`d hate to harp on the "Too much like Batman" thing, but I`m kinda disappointed with this version of Oliver and his rogue gallery. The Deathstroke stuff? Yeah it was pretty cool arc. But this transition into Ra`s is way too Batman for my taste. Personally I would have liked a completely new villain created solely for the show. If I`m not mistaken Diggle is now in the official canon correct? Then why not? It would certainly help the character stand on his own and not having Oliver borrow rogues from other characters

A few things:

--First, Maseo is a League member? Cool! I've been wondering why that guy was even ON this show... other than being Ollie's link to A.R.G.U.S. in the flashbacks, he's been kind of a non-entity. Hell, Katana's made more of an impact than he has... and she's only really had a prominent role in the last two episodes! (Which actually raises the question... is KATANA a League member, too? Or did she die in the past, giving Maseo a reason to ditch A.R.G.U.S. and join the League?)

--Secondly, I'm still not completely sold on Ra's' television look... it feels like they went with the simplest hair and beard they could possibly give him (more than likely to avoid comparisons with Liam Neeson's Ra's).

But the guy IS pretty buff, and I LOVE the fact that they're duplicating the famous "shirtless saber duel" from Denny O'Neil's run on Batman-- just with Oliver Queen instead of the Dark Knight! And considering what Stephen Amell said about the downtime he's gonna have during the second half of the season, something tells me this is one battle that's going to go in the Demon's favor... (Not that I'd have it any other way. If BATMAN has a hard time besting Ra's Al Ghul in a swordfight, then Green Arrow should barely be able to keep up with him!)

(Incidentally, it just occurred to me that if they introduce the J.L. this season, possibly as a task force specifically to battle Ra's and his minions, that could be the reason they name themselves the Justice "League". And if that's the endgame of this season for these two series-- a blowout battle between Ra's and the Justice League-- then HOLY SH*T, are we in for a show!)

Next week can't get here fast enough!

Nyssa was ready to kill to find Sara's killer. If Nyssa actually killed her, that would be such a stupid twist.

TheFox
TheFox - 12/3/2014, 4:33 PM
Also, I know people are just being snarky, but there's nothing about this that screams "Batman Begins remake". At all.

Ra's looks completely different, for one (but that's just superficial)... we KNOW he has a daughter from the outset; Ollie doesn't know him (save by reputation); the city is nowhere NEAR in peril from these guys (they only want Merlyn, remember? Because HE destroyed a city); and they actually have the iconic, shirtless sword fight of destiny from the comic books. Frankly, this feels like they're trying to do everything BUT what Batman Begins did with Ra's.

And I respect that. Ra's al Ghul is a major presence in the DC Universe, with a lot of history-- history that Batman Begins only really scratched the surface of. So seeing the rest of that history play out on Arrow sounds pretty damn awesome to me... ESPECIALLY if they go so far as to introduce, say, the Lazarus Pits to the T.V. universe!

I am intrigued. I am excited. I can't wait to see where this is all going!

(And if the answer is "Ra's kills Ollie in their sword duel, leading to his multi-episode absence before being resurrected in a Lazarus Pit"... then color me DOUBLY excited!)

Matt Nable looks horrible as Ras. Hes probably the only character on Arrow I have ever had a problem with. Watch Ollie own this cheap knockoff.

TheTMan15
TheTMan15 - 12/3/2014, 5:35 PM
@TheFox

You are totally right. The writers said they love the Christopher Nolan films, but they are really trying to differentiate their Ra's by touching on more comic book inspired aspects and I think that's gonna be awesome.

I have a theory about the shirtless duel thing. I think it's maybe a league of assassins ritual that when there are duels between two people they are shirtless so there is fairness and no concealed weapons in their clothes. That way it is something that would still happen with batman and isn't just a one time thing, it's a ritual that both Green Arrow and Batman would happen to participate in.

Many aren't aware, but the original concept for this show was Batman: Year One. DC and Warner weren't clear on the future of Batman in films but they wanted to capitalize on the momentum of the Nolan films. After the plan was changed to fast-tracking Justice League they decided to swith the lead to Green Arrow, since they wouldn't have to change much in terms of atmosphere and concept.
