Krysten Ritter To Play JESSICA JONES; Mike Colter Looks Set For LUKE CAGE

Marvel haven't issued a press release just yet, but the trades are reporting that Breaking Bad actress Krysten Ritter has been chosen to play Jessica Jones in the upcoming Netflix series. It also sounds like they've found their Luke Cage in the form of Mile Colter. Read on for details!

Deadline reports that Krysten Ritter has been cast as Jessica Jones in the Netflix series which will follow Daredevil, but whether that's this year or next remains to be seen. She's best known for a memorable role in Breaking Bad, and gained quite the following after starring in the short lived - but well-loved - Don't Trust The B- comedy series on ABC. According to the site, her series focuses on Jessica Jones (obviosly), a superhero suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder, which leads to her hanging up her costume and opening her own detective agency, where she ends up helping people and assisting other superheroes. The site also reveals that the five actresses being eyed for Jessica Jones all tested with The Following's Mike Colter, who it now appears will play Luke Cage.

@MercwithMouth Lol what? She's finally getting her big break. Solid in Breaking Bad (and likely the same in BIG EYES), the underappreciated DON'T TRUST THE B got cancelled earlier and she's finally NOT doing supporting work in bland rom-coms.

I don't know if she 100% fits the character, but Krysten Ritter is a perfectly solid actress. My only exposure to her is Breaking Bad, and she was fantastic.

One of the few MCU related (non-recasting) casting choices I'm at least initally unhappy about. It's not even that I think she's a horrible actress or something, but I've seen her in a few things and I can't imagine her making me see... you know, past her, to see the character she's playing and not the actress. Breaking Bad was the best in that regard, but it was also [frick]ing Breaking Bad and she wasn't the lead.

Hopefully I'll be proven wrong though!

Ritter hasn't done a lot, but this could be her break out gig. I'll give her a shot, I've got faith in Marvel. Unfortunately I don't recognize Mike Colter from anything so I can't really comment on his casting.

It's all good. I'm not extremely worried. I just looked through her filmography, and it's full of crap. There's a few gems hidden in there, so she could definitely nail it. It's just not a casting I expected, and not in Marvel's typical "Holy shit that's perfect" style.

Yeah I'm not a fan of either of these choices. Which is really weird since I'm usually very optimistic when it comes to casting decisions.
