Marvel and Netflix have announced today that Krysten Ritter is playing Jessica Jones in Marvel's A.K.A. Jessica Jones. That's the title they were planning on using when the series was being eyed for ABC a number of years ago, but it's not the only piece of news in the report over at Marvel.com. The 13-episode series will follow Daredevil in 2015! The offical synopsis for the series reveals that, "After a tragic ending to her short-lived Super Hero stint, Jones is rebuilding her personal life and career as a detective who gets pulled into cases involving people with extraordinary abilities in New York City." So, she's a police detective rather than a P.I.? It sounds like that's the case!
Executive producer and showrunner Melissa Rosenberg says, "Krysten brings both the hard edge and the vulnerability the role demands. We can't wait for fans to see her in action, coming to Netflix in 2015." It remains to be seen whether or not Luke Cage and Iron Fist also reach us next year, but at least we know two of the shows are coming our way pretty soon. Fellow producer and Marvel's Head of Television Jeph Loeb had this to say about the casting. "Krysten Ritter has the type of range, spanning the comic to the tragic, that makes for the stuff of the best Marvel heroes. As Jessica Jones, Krysten will bring one of the most beloved new characters of the past decade to life in a way we know will delight her longtime fans and introduce her to many more."
