Robert Downey Jr. On His Excitement To See SPIDER-MAN Join THE AVENGERS

Robert Downey Jr. talks here about whether or not he wants to see Spider-Man join the ranks of The Avengers, and which version of the character - Peter Parker or Miles Morales - he prefers. The actor also comes up with a theory about how Stark Industries may be tied to that radioactive spider...

It's already been confirmed by Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige that the Marvel Cinematic Universe Spider-Man will be Peter Parker, and Robert Downey Jr. doesn't hesitate to choose him over Miles Morales in the video above (just skip the first couple of minutes of idiotic baby related questions). He also definitively states that he wants to see the wall-crawler join The Avengers, adding: "The funny thing is, it all feeds back into itself because now it's got me thinking that that would be something that Stark Industries would actually be diverting funds to and all that."

Could it be that Iron Man is indirectly responsible for the creation of the spider which bites Peter in the MCU? It seems more like speculation on Downey Jr.'s part than confirmation at this point, but is interesting nonetheless. As always, be sure to sound off with your thoughts and theories in the usual place. Spider-Man will make his Marvel Studios debut in Captain America: Civil War next year.

Admittedly, I'm still bummed I never got the ASM saga with the tie-ins (from my optimistic view point it could have been good) but I'm very excited with the direction Marvel is going with his character.

If I was Aunt May I wouldn't let Peter hang around Tony

@JamesMann, I agree. I won't lose much sleep if we never get Sinister Six movie, but I was excited to see a solo Venom movie. I don't know if a Venom movie will ever happen in the MCU unless Sony makes it.

God I hope they don't go that route. I hate the trend now where everything has to be connected to everything. Can't he just be bitten by a spider and not have it be connected to Iron Man, etc.? Lazy, Lazy storytelling.

Let's just face the fact that ironman is the center if the mcu, I don't mind it at all.
Besides that I hope he's the one who gives Peter his actual suit since Feuge already told us peter is using a makeshift costume already, plus it would be more believable that Tony could make such a intricate suit

Love RDJ but thankfully he's not writing the story. Stark aindustires has nothing to do with the radioactive spider.

Why all the hate for Josh lately, folks? He's got a job to do, and he does it well. Also, I don't think RDjr was talking about playing into Spidey's origins, but rather funding him, a la the Iron-Spider technology.

Oh, hells to the YIZZIE, Stark Industries being involved with the MCTU (Marvel Cinematic and Television Universe) spawning of Peter Parker as Spider-Man!

I mean, we don't have to go the entire Osborne route.

But Peter a facet of Stark?

Hells to the YEZZIES!!!!!

And oh god damn, if they give us a solo Spider-Man MARVEL STUDIOS movie, give us Kraven and Lizard-laced sewer-framed underground three-way man-spider-lizard hunt!!!

Holy SHIT would that be EPIC.

Especially if done under the Marvel Studios banner.

I feel like he mentioned that in purpose..he wanted to seem like he was only speculating but maybe stark industries funded a biotechnology division and wipe bam boom spidey happened. Maybe during the chitauri invasion, buildings collapsing, destruction, a young peter parker gets caught up in it and is bit by a genetically enhanced spider. Maybe he was at a stark biotech science demonstration when eveyrthing g went wrong and in the ruckus, the spider bit him

I'm just spitballing here but, how would people feel about Pym Technologies fabricating the radioactive spider? Better yet, why does the spider have to be designed? Insert unstable chemical + random spider exposed and spider bite and BOOM done.
