AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON To Receive Extended Version And Alternate Ending For Home Release

Avengers: Age of Ultron hasn't been released in North America yet, but news about the sequel's home release has already surfaced. Apparently, the Blu-ray will include both an extended version of the movie and an alternate ending. Hit the jump for details and some possible spoilers...

Joss Whedon has said that his original cut of Avengers: Age of Ultron was around three hours long, and I can tell you that there were a lot of scenes in the trailers which didn't make it into the theatrical cut. It appears as if they will end up being more than simple deleted scenes though, as an Amazon email blast has gone out to UK consumers offering them the chance to pre-order the movie. That same email mentions that the Blu-ray will include an extended version and alternate ending, and it's hard to imagine that the online retailer just plucked that information out of thin air!

Whedon has already promised that the home release will be packed full of material, though it is a little surprising that Marvel aren't holding back an extended cut for somewhere a little further down the line to get fans to buy the movie twice (similar to what Peter Jackson did with The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogies). Based on this though, that doesn't appear to be the case.

There were reports some time ago that Avengers: Age of Ultron would end with the Hulk being sent into outer space, so could that be what the new ending involves? In the version in cinemas, [SPOILER, Highlight To Read] he only ends up above the Earth in a Quinjet, with Nick Fury later telling Black Widow that he may or may not have crashed down in the Ocean somewhere [END SPOILER]. Here's the screengrab of the email from ScreenCrush. What are you guys most hoping to see in an extended version? As always, let us know your thoughts on this news in the usual place.

The extended version will be a must see because the theatrical version definetly felt like huge chunks were cut out.

Good movie but not great.....great action scenes......bad jokes....good jokes....

Ultron......one of the better villains of the McU......still think the cartoon version of Ultron is better.

@MrCBM- Agreed. I do believe there was a much stronger and better version of Thor 2 before it was cut to shreds

They should've included some of these deleted scenes in the actual movie. Why did they have the movie one minute shorter than the first as opposed to a little bit longer (seeing how its a sequel and there's so much packed in)?

Saw it about 1 hour ago. Even better than the first Avengers. I wasn't expecting that. Ultron is brilliant. This monster will rape the box office. Pre-ordering this baby now.

Sounds cool. The only part of the film I felt was heavily cut was the stuff involving Thor and Selvig, so it'll be interesting to see how that plays out.

I would say this is warranted with this movie. Although I'd wager it's warranted with a few other Marvel movies as well.

@soulofwakanda - Whedon himslef said he wanted to cut those scenes to improve the flow of the movie. And the pacing was excellent. But completionist fanboys (including me) will want to see all the material shot. Same can't be said of the GA who goes to the cinema and drink a litre of Come (like I did).

This is great news, though I wish we didn't need an extended edition because they cut so much from the movie itself. Still, Glad Marvel is finally doing this and will def be preordering.

@SoulofWakanda- and at times that is EXACTLY the reason and what it all comes down to. $$$$$. Fox had decided to somewhat do this with The Rogue Cut. And Now Age Of Ultron. Hopefully this starts a trend for all movies that are shredded in the editing room.

@KurtWagner1225

I'll probably enjoy it more when I get the Blu-Ray......always do.

A lot of people will love Ultron.....me he's ok.....just wasn't as evil as he should've been.....Ultron is more Evil in these cartoons...
