Disney Boss Isn't Worried About Competition From WB's DC Comics Slate; "We're Marvel"

Thanks to WB finally launching a DC Cinematic Universe, Marvel are going to get some serious competition over the next few years. Are they worried? Well, Disney CEO Bob Iger isn't fretting about rival comic book movies, and talks here about why Marvel has nothing to be scared about...

Since 2008, Marvel Studios has enjoyed being the dominant force in the comic book movie world, but Warner Bros.' DC Comics slate means that they will soon be competing for release dates and at the box office with their Distinguished Competition. Disney CEO Bob Iger isn't losing any sleep about that though, and revealed at the Allen & Co. media conference in Sun Valley that he believes the goodwill they've generated over the past few years with moviegoers is going to keep them well ahead of their rivals. "We’re Marvel. We’ve done a great job of building the Marvel brand, which we think when it’s on a movie really makes a difference. We’re seeing signs of that."

Part of building that brand includes launching risky properties like Ant-Man, Captain Marvel, and Doctor Strange, but Iger remains confident in what's to come. "We like the Marvel slate that we have coming up. We think they’re unique in many ways and have no concerns [about competition] whatsoever." What do you guys think about these comments? Should Marvel be worried about Batman v Superman and the like, or will Captain America: Civil War reign supreme?

Marvel's dick is fable, DC's dick is mythical.

There is no real war between the companies themselves. It's something stupid fanboys have created for whatever immature reason. And I agree, even though I lean towards DC a little more, I love Marvel and wish to see her prosper as much as DC.

How crazy would it be if everyone just stayed nice and civil on an article like this?!

I know. Maybe people will actually be relaxed about it and discuss what Iger says, instead of giving in to those obscure fear biter reflexes after reading Josh's inevitably inflammatory headline and teaser. It migh happen!

Marvel has every right to be confident about the future of the MCU, and I'm sure DC will do just fine as well. Ultimately it's us, the fans, who "win". Today's cornucopia of CBM offerings is just an unparalleled situation for the genre (so to speak, I wouldn't normally call "CBM" a genre by itself), and a blessing for those who enjoy variety in their comic related cinematic entertainment.

And before the war begins, I just want to say that I'm stoked for what Marvel AND DC have in store for us in the next 5-6 years!

Considering that there is no reason to believe that it would hurt Marvel's films at all even if DC's are a success, he has no reason to be worried.

It's not like people aren't going to enjoy seeing Marvel and DC films, as long as they both put out enjoyable films. "Enjoyable" being the key term.

And funny thing... Ben Affleck was spotted in Atlanta (where Civil War was) and Hayley Atwell was at WB.

Marvel isn't scared of DC

DC isn't scared of Marvel

Fox isn't scared of either of them

They're all doing their own thing, worrying about their OWN movies.

MCU has set the template and continues to raise the bar.DCEU is like a kid on their tricycle watching grown men on motorcycles. They'll get there eventually, just give them time. DC is shaping up nicely with BvS,Suicide Squad and their other slated movies. Super excited for these next couple of years...expect a lot from both companies.
