At the end of Thor, Dr. Erik Selvig was recruited by Nick Fury to study and harness the mysterious powers of the Tesseract. However, it was also revealed that Selvig is under control of Loki! Actor Stellan Skarsgård had this to say about his return in The Avengers.

"I had no idea what the future of Selvig would be after ‘Thor,’ but one thing I knew was when you sign on to a Marvel film, you’re on the hook for five," laughs Skarsgård. "When the film begins, Selvig is working for S.H.I.E.L.D. and Nick Fury has a big concern because something is going wrong with the experiments on the Tesseract. Unbeknownst to him, he actually ends up opening a portal to another universe and Loki shows up and that’s when the fun really begins."

Executive producer Patricia Whitcher had this to say about bringing back The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo star after his appearance in Thor. "It was so much fun to have Stellan back from 'Thor.' He is such a gifted actor who quietly goes about his business and always makes everyone around him better. When you have actors as talented as Stellan Skarsgård in supporting roles, you’re really going to elevate the film."

Awesome spoiler. I wonder if Thor coems back the same way.

It's unprecedented, isn't it?

In the after credits scene in "Thor" Fury is showing Dr. Erik Selvig the Cosmic Cube and Loki was already present (at a guess) influencing Selvig?

"Well, I guess that's worth a look."

Selvig knows a lot about Norse gods. By first hand experience. He used to worship them. :)

@grif

I've seen other interviews with him, and he seems very humble. Quite sure he was wrongly cited in what interview you mentioned, happens all the time.

@RedSkull667 Cool. Does the end credit scene go into the movie like the recap and conclusion of the Balrog fight in Two Towers?

@RedSkull667

The Cap. end credits scene is in the trailer for Avengers.

Would also like to know what your friends general opinion is (marvel72, and the question by above NeoBaggins).

@ NeoBaggins

in the leaked thor script(which i have),he does mention hank pym but it was replaced by knowing someone who was an expert in gamma radiation in the final film.

Sounds good to me. Skarsgård is at his best when he's the villain - just see Dragon Tattoo or Ronin.
NeoBaggins

@Marv/ckal

Oh, ok. Small thing, but I think it probably does work better without the name drop. Only WE would have got that, and the Gamma Radiation expert is a nicer drop considering the upcoming film. I think Gamma radiation alerts even the average joe of HULK.

Now, a Pym ref in Avengers would be right on time. That, and maybe some background news on TV or radio about Wakanda.

He said that movie was brilliant with some cool refrences thrown (I didn't asked further) What he saw was mostly unfinished still he loved it and will watch it again when releases

Eric Selvig is playing Hank Pym's replacement here
If he had a Ant Man movie before Avengers Eric Selvig would have replaced with Hank Pym

Eric Selvig may be a part of Ant Man movie what I heard from the rumors
NeoBaggins
NeoBaggins - 4/1/2012, 8:58 AM
@RedSkull667 Sounds interesting. I was hoping Loki killed him. Shit would get really real with that aspect.

You know, I didn't think much of Antman until I watched a bunch of EMH episodes on DVD. The way he fights while interchanging sizes would be Bananas in a live-action film.
NeoBaggins
NeoBaggins - 4/2/2012, 1:49 AM
I think Giant Man Wasp would have kicked the budget through the roof. It's more CGI. I don't mind them not showing up at this time, but only if they DEFINITELY show up the next go round.
EarOne
EarOne - 4/5/2012, 2:36 AM
yeah, it's great and all having him back for The Avengers. BUT, the real question is..will we get to see Natalie Portman, as well, returning as Jane Foster. logically, SHE should be the one supporting character to show up in The Avengers, if Thor returns to earth. she'll be his main reason to return from Asgard.
