It's no secret that Captain America, Iron Man and Thor will all come to blows at some point in The Avengers. Chris Hemsworth explains the cause of this epic confrontation. "Thor arrives a little late to the party after The Avengers have captured Loki and he tears the place apart, grabs Loki and disappears. Once they get to the mountaintop, he attempts a heart-to-heart with Loki, but that doesn’t end well and Iron Man shows up and they’re feeling each out other in an incredibly aggressive way. Thor is surprised by the strength of Iron Man and Captain America’s shield and it ends up being a pretty epic battle that basically wipes out the entire mountaintop and forest."

This battle was the first scene of this type that Chris Evans filmed, and seeing Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Hemsworth in full costume isn't an experience he will soon forget. "For that scene, we were shooting nights on this beautiful, wooded mountaintop with Iron Man and Thor duking it out. And then being the peacekeeper that he is, Captain America goes and tries to break them up. This was actually the first time I’d seen Chris Hemsworth walk on set in full costume with the long red cape. And then Robert Downey Jr. comes on set in his full Iron Man armor. I remember thinking how much they both embodied their characters in costume. It was such a cool moment for me, standing there next to them both, because all of a sudden I felt like my Captain America suit took on new meaning. I felt that I was a part of something much bigger."

Chris Hemsworth adds, "Robert is just a fantastic actor and he is certainly the godfather of 'The Avengers.' He started it all with ‘Iron Man’ and there were a number of times when I’ve asked him how he navigates this. Or what do you think of this? He is always very gracious and open with giving advice, which is really helpful." This is a sentiment echoed by Marvel Studios President and executive producer of the film, Kevin Feige. "The great thing about the Marvel Universe is that it takes place in the real world; it’s not a fictitious Metropolis. A big part of this equation is having a team that can deliver that right balance of emotion so that audiences can connect to the human element of the story. We have been rewarded for making those slightly against- the-grain choices in finding the right actor for the job, whether they’ve ever been in these types of films or not. When I think about the cast in this film from top to bottom, I still get giddy with excitement because they all are fantastic artists who understand what we need in terms of performance and all bring their own unique sensibilities that elevate each of their roles."

Sounds good but just points out what we have pretty much read already about this scene. Although I'm left with an image in my head now in regards to the dust up that wipes out the mountaintop. And it is all good.

Seriously who cares about you being first on an article for frick sake! Have some input at least.

"Thor is surprised by the strength of Iron Man and Captain America’s shield and it ends up being a pretty epic battle"

I just hope that they don't weaken Thor in the movie, Thor is almost on a God level with all his powers. In the Thor movie he took out an army of Frost giants by himself(almost) and at the end of the movie we saw how powerful he really is when he took out the Destroyer with ease. Hope he whoops Iron Mans ass.

ugh, i really hope they do thor jsutice though, cause it sounds like he's sooooooooo nerfed in this movie. He should be able to take out iron man in one swing. In the comics he peels his facemask off with his bare hands. From what it sounds like, iron man is gonna break even with thor, captain is gonna block thors hammer, and thor is probably gonna lose the fight to the hulk too, cause why have the hulk on the team if thor is just as strong AND under conrol? Thor would probably have the hardest time getting around caps shield, but he would tear iron man's normal suit apart no problem whatsoever, and he fights hulk all the time with his bear hands and holds his own, not even with the hammer.

"...it takes place in the real world; it’s not a fictitious Metropolis"

oh,BURNED! :P

but I think this needs to be fixed:
"...it takes place in the real world; it’s not a fictitious, boring and morally ambiguous Metropolis"

there we go :P

PS-I'm just kidding :)

I think this battle will be super epic and I'm excited to see it but I worry that Thor's strength will not be portrayed as it was in Thor. I'm crossing my fingers that they won't [frick] that up. Thor would own that fight anyway.

THORION76
THORION76 - 4/2/2012, 3:18 PM
If they really wanted to show movie fans a real fight they would have Thor and the Hulk go fist to fist and blow for blow. Hulk say's "Thor is nothing without his puny hammer" so Thor throws the hammer away and they go at it. The fight on the mountain top should be Thor holding back not at full power. If he IS at full power that will be an FOX/X-MEN continuity glitch.

I think its ok for Thor to be surprised by iron man's strength. Why not? I should be a surprise that a puny human would attempt to go toe-to-toe with him.

mstaley3000 - 4/2/2012, 5:46 PM
@TheMightyQuinn - And wasn't there an article that said.............spoiler?......................that Iron Man got hit by a bolt of lightning from Thor which caused a massive power surge that augmented his armor's strength 400%?
Gerrit
Gerrit - 4/2/2012, 6:25 PM
@mstaley3000,.........spoiler.......... and after Iron Man shoots Thor with 400% power, Thor just gets back up. But the idea of giving the heroes fare share of screentime also brings up the idea of making them equally powerfull, which sucks. I am a little worried about that but i trust in Joss.

I too worry that this movie will "power down" Thor too much. In the comics, Iron Man admitted "on my best day, my transistorized power was no much for Thor!"

And from what I've read, there will be a Thor/Hulk confrontation in this movie. We'll see.
