Joss Whedon To Write And Direct THE AVENGERS 2; Will Also Develop New Marvel TV Series

We'll update as soon as more details become available, but it has just been CONFIRMED by Walt Disney Studios that Joss Whedon will return to write and direct a sequel to The Avengers. He will also develop a new TV series based in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The news has just broken on a Walt Disney Investors Conference Call that Joss Whedon will return to write and direct the sequel to Marvel's The Avengers; the $1.5 billion dollar blockbuster of 2012. Bob Iger (the chairman and chief executive of The Walt Disney Company) also revealed that Whedon is involved with the development of an ABC live action television series set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Stay tuned for further details.

As I'm sure you'll agree, this is incredibly exciting news. It was Joss Whedon's screenplay and skills behind the camera which made Marvel's The Avengers such an amazing comic book movie, and it's hard to imagine anyone being anything other than over the moon with the news that he will return to write and direct the planned sequel. There is currently no word on a release date (rumoured to be 2015) or what the TV series will involve.

LMFAO @ teabag!!! Damn yo! You never fail!!!

This is fantastic news!! Whedon did an amazing job! Can't wait to see what he'll come up with for the sequel!!

So, they did say Whedon is also writing the script for a TV Show? So, is this the writer Guillermo Del Toro was talking about? Cuz the only Marvel TV Series ever mentioned (to my knowledge) for ABC is THE HULK!! And Whedon did a MARVELOUS - no pun intended - job with him!!!!

Really excited for this now!!

Good. Pym and Wasp should replace Hawkeye and Widow. I'd like to see Joss Whedon write those characters. But let's ditch the TV aspect ratio, k?

I think Whedon is being groomed to be in the Marvel family for life. Producer, script consultant, writer, director on ALL future projects. Like Feige.

He loves Marvel and is an uber-nerd. Marvel NEEDS to start putting out 3-4 films per year and Feige can't oversee the entire operation.

That's great! This means there could be a little continuity between the show and the movies, and I mean come on, it's Joss Whedon, so surely it will be watchable at the least.

I'm thinking TV show about Shield Agents, a female lead in particular with her male partner. They will investigate and deal with criminal events and happenings that include minor to supporting characters of heroes in the universe.

NCIS w/Superheroes i.e. - Investigate Justin Hammer's company after his arrest at the end of Iron Man 2.

Except the show would be more current than that, so they'd deal with the leftovers and behind the scenes issues of recent movies.

@Zarog I think Runaways is better suited for the big screen! :(
I'd love a media adaptation though!

I think it takes a higher budget to make a realistic alien Karolina form that only a big screen adaptation can offer.
