UK Edition Of THE AVENGERS DVD/Blu-Ray Won't Feature Joss Whedon's Commentary

Disney have reportedly confirmed that the upcoming DVD and Blu-ray release of Marvel's The Avengers Avengers Assemble in the UK will NOT feature Joss Whedon's highly anticipated commentary on the $1 billion box office hit.

Well, this is extremely disappointing. The UK (and presumably the rest of Europe) will not be getting Joss Whedon's commentary on the upcoming DVD and Blu-ray release of Marvel's The Avengers/Avengers Assemble. As you can see from the Tweets below, the ever reliable folks over at Empire Magazine confirmed the news earlier today.

If this is the price that those of us on this side of the pond have to pay for getting the DVD and Blu-ray a measly eight days sooner, I think most fans would agree that a wait of just an extra week or so would have been perfectly acceptable for the inclusion of such an essential extra. The excuse made by Disney just isn't good enough, and the fact that there are no plans in future to make this available to non-US residents is a pretty poor way to treat the UK fans who contributed over $80 million to its worldwide total at the box office.

Marvel Studios presents in association with Paramount Pictures Marvel’s The Avengers--the super hero team up of a lifetime, featuring iconic Marvel super heroes Iron Man, the Incredible Hulk, Thor, Captain America, Hawkeye and Black Widow. When an unexpected enemy emerges that threatens global safety and security, Nick Fury, Director of the international peacekeeping agency known as S.H.I.E.L.D., finds himself in need of a team to pull the world back from the brink of disaster. Spanning the globe, a daring recruitment effort begins.

STARRING:

Chris Evans as Steve Rogers/Captain America
Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark/Iron Man
Chris Hemsworth as Thor
Jeremy Renner as Clint Barton/Hawkeye
Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Ramanoff/Black Widow
Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner/Hulk
Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury
Clark Gregg as Agent Coulson
Cobie Smulders as Maria Hill
Tom Hiddleston as Loki

RELEASE DATE: September 17th, 2012 (UK) September 25th, 2012 (US)

Some are but that's not the prob, it's the pal vs NTSC that has to be converted, you have to unlock your player and it'll do both

I confirm. Sadly. On the french edition, there's only the gag reel, the short film, the (excellent) delete scenes, a 6 minutes (!!!) making-of and that's it... Damn !

Well...Aren't I feeling lucky for preordering the 2 disc bluray from my supplier here in Denmark, and then getting the second rate product? If this kind of crap doesn't lead to piracy, I don't know WHAT will.
Yeah, I'd hope they make it available for a legal download. Because I swear I want that commentary, and by hook or by crook I WILL get it - I pay my money and expect to get all that's advertised!

Brit here;

To be honest not bothered at all. I was resigned to the fact that Disney have utterly botched the releases for Avengers - not only giving target(U.S) and Sainsburys (U.K) the 90 min documentary, but now this omission of Joss' commentary.
Disney have come off looking pretty incompetant.

Happy with just the film on blu-ray. Everything else I'll catch on the net as (to be honest) I only watch it through that content once anyway. Its only the film itself that gets multiple views for me personally.

Yep, the 90 min documentary is exclusive to Target(U.S) and Sainsburys (U.K).

Very happy with my Pre-ordered Avengers Steelbook. When the Sainsbury's 'exclusive' version drops to £5 at Sainsburys, Play.com or Amazon, I'll get it for the documentary. No rush, no big-deal. :)

I watch commentary and all the special features on every movie. Makes the movie so much moe enjoyable when you actually see the process behind it and the enthusiam for the people making it. Plus in the case of Marvel studios films they usually drop hints towards sequels and other franchises during the commentary, like they did with mentioning Winter Soldier in the Captain America one

There are a lot of criticism you could level at Disney - but I never thought being unprofessional would be one!!

to this i say...BLU-RAY's the worst business practice of modern day. it basically FORCES us the consumers who're content with our current regular dvd players to convert to get THE most complete version of a movie on dvd.

they should keep our options open. for those who wants a lil better pic quality can go by blu-ray, but us, who're concerned more bout the bonus features included than a what the resolution is can still get ALL the bonus on the regular dvds.

I'm in Australia and this came out days ago, bought the blu ray the moment I could. We don't get the commentary either, which I'm really pissed about. Joss does the funniest and best commentaries in the biz. After watching Item 47 weeks ago on youtube, and there only being 12 minutes of deleted scenes and that 5 minute 'visual journey' thing, which sucks, I'm really disappointed. This should be LOADED with extras, interviews etc. At least a 'making of'. Good points however are the sound and visuals on the blu ray are up there with avatar (shit movie, good looking) and theres no letterboxing, its full screen glory, which looks phenomenal. Oh and some of the deleted scenes theyve released are only half of the actual scenes. the banner and security guard scene gets better and goes longer than the bit they released online, ends with banner getting the security guys bike and really explains why hulk has control in new york. what happened to the 45 minutes of cut footage joss said would be released? still missing cap shield throw in the alley and widow with the explosion behind her lookin all badass from the trailers. man i wish there was more of the actual avengers. movie needed so much more thor.

@RamonSuarez;

Psst; Whats the point of chanting that?.
You are not actually doing your countrymen any favours by chanting like that in this in an article about another country's and their customer's misfortune with the Blu-ray.
I'm pretty sure Americans have (especially here among fellow CBM'ers) more empathy and class than that.

Once again it's gonna be a download for that too. When they fragment editions like this all it leads to is more business for the pirate market so they only have themselves to blame.

Didn't want the stupid "Avengers Assemble" title on my blu ray anyway. They should have given us a reverse sleeve with just "Avengers" on it as a double option.
