When the Marvel Cinematic Universe: Phase One - Avengers Assembled box set was first revealed, it was met with a great deal of excitement from fans. Featuring all six of the Marvel Studios movies released so far over ten discs, it was set to be released in a replica of the briefcase used by Nick Fury in the superhero ensemble and would also include a glowing replica of the Tesseract. However, a German luggage firm filed a lawsuit because of the similarities between the replica briefcase being used for this set and one of their products, delaying the release until Spring 2013. Well, fans who pre-ordered the set through Amazon were sent the following message promising them a very nice piece of compensation for the inconveniece.

We're writing to let you know that the Marvel Cinematic Universe: Phase One-Avengers Assembled Collection will not be released by Marvel as originally expected. Instead, Marvel is planning to offer a similar collection in new packaging. The new collection will include the original titles offered with the first version of the item, and is expected to be available in the spring of 2013. To make this easy for you, we updated your order for the original collection and will ship the new collection when it becomes available. The price of the new collection will be the same as the original collection.

To show our appreciation for your understanding, we are providing you with a promo code to receive a free copy of Marvel's The Avengers (Two-Disc Blu-ray/DVD Combo in Blu-ray Packaging). To be eligible, you must have placed your order between June 1, 2012 and August 28, 2012. Any cancelled orders are not eligible to receive the free copy. Codes must be redeemed by October 15, 2012.

Still gotta pay for shipping tho. On day of release is 12 bucks. Screw that, I can wait a couple of days and only pay 3 for the shipping. But damn decent of them as it wasn't their fault but Disney for using someone else design without paying for it.

i think its cool of them, but its really stupid that if people cancelled their order they dont get it..its completely reasonable that someone would cancel their order when finding out the product they put money on isnt comin out for months, why would anyone want to buy 2 copies of avengers?..i think they should offer to let people who cancelled their pre-order the case again and if they can prove their original pre-order date was in the same time period go ahead and give it to them.

I am exchanging e-mails back and forth with Amazon.ca and I'll keep my fellow Canadians posted on the situation. So far it's not looking good but I'm not sure if the person answering my e-mail understood my question. Here's the e-mail I sent and their reply:

"I was reading online that people who pre-ordered the Marvel Cinematic Universe: Phase One - Avengers Assembled blu ray box set have begun receiving e-mails about it being delayed until spring 2013. While this isn't news to me, it's also been said that the e-mails contained information on how to get a free blu ray copy of Avengers if you pre-ordered the box set between June 1 and August 28, provided you didn't cancel the order, and saying the box set would remain at the same price when released in the spring.

My question is the following: Will this offer apply to international Amazon sites such as Amazon.ca -- where I pre-ordered my copy of the box set back in July. I haven't cancelled my order but was just concerned since the release date hasn't been updated on the site and I haven't received an e-mail about the compensation offer.

Thanks in advance for your time and assistance."

Their answer:

"Hello,

It appears that this item "Marvel Cinematic Universe: Phase One - Avengers Assembled (10-Disc Limited Edition Six-Movie Collector's Set) [Blu-ray]" has recently been removed from our site.

The information on our web site is continuously updated, and titles are occasionally removed. This reason for this is the release of the item may have been suspended.

To cancel your order, go to the URL below, sign in and click the "Need to cancel an item?" button: (removed link)

In addition to a wide selection of items, one of our aims at Amazon.ca is to provide a convenient and efficient service; in this case, we have not met that standard.

Again, I am truly sorry that we were not able to fulfill your expectations for this level of service. I hope that you will give us another opportunity to prove the quality of our service to you.

We hope to see you again soon."

So I e-mailed them again saying I understood the product was down, explained the U.S. compensation offer and mentioned how it was unfair if we didn't receive something similar. I also made sure to stress I'd be looking to buy the box set elsewhere if that was the case so we'll see what happens. I know they won't change their minds for me obviously but I'm hoping this guy just didn't have all the correct info or misunderstood what I'm asking -- not looking good though and I'm pretty pissed about it.

Just got finished talking with an Amazon rep. He said the promotion does not apply to International Amazon Companies like Amazon.ca. At this time, there's no indication that Amazon.ca will be included in the promotion. If any changes are made, I(we)'ll be notified by email.

I got my email this morning. Nice move by Amazon. For $8 (shipping), I have a copy to tide me over. They easily could have just said its out of their control and told us to deal with it like most sellers will. Who knows, maybe good customer service will become cool in the corporate world again... Haha... Yeah, right.

Man that's [frick]ing bullshit about Canada -- their Canadian site sucks so bad compared to the American one, it really ticks me off. I'll wait until closer to the spring and then cancel my order with them altogether if they don't change their policy on this -- once again they give us the shaft. Any Canadians know a good place to order the box set moving forward? I know there's bestbuy.ca but I am open to suggestions.

DudeLove721

Hey Canadian friends. I just got this e-mail from Amazon.ca's customer service in response to my last e-mail. Like I mentioned, I re-explained the offer American customers are getting, asked why Canadian customers wouldn't receive the same and told them I'd be taking my business elsewhere if we indeed didn't get an option to lock-in the price and get the blu ray set. Here's my e-mail, followed by their response:

"Hello there,

I'm following up on an e-mail I received in reply to a request for information because I don't believe it accurately answered my questions.

I pre-ordered Marvel Cinematic Universe: Phase One - Avengers Assembled (10-Disc Limited Edition Six-Movie Collector's Set) back in July. While I fully understand that pre-orders have been suspended and the item has been removed from your site, I wanted to know if you were honouring a deal that was available from Amazon.com as well.

People pre-ordering from Amazon.com have been receiving e-mails with a code to get a free copy of Marvel's The Avengers on blue ray if they pre-ordered the box set between June 1 and August 28. I just want to know if this policy will extend to Canada and, if not, why exactly are we being left-out? I don't think it's very fair to your customers in this country if we can't keep our price locked-in and get the same offer for a free copy.

Obviously the product hasn't been cancelled outright if customers from your American site are allowed to keep their pre-orders active and receive this offer to help appease them.

I just want to know if Amazon.ca is offering this deal or not -- I wouldn't want to cancel my order only to find out it makes me ineligeable for such a deal.

I sincerely hope you'll be matching the offer presented to customers in the states because, not only is it unfair to your Canadian customers if you don't, I'll be sure to look elsewhere once the set goes on sale if that's the way you want to treat your Canadian customers.

Please prove me wrong here, I am just looking for equal compensation and have no problem giving you my business as long as I'm treated fairly."

Their reply:

"Hello,

I need to look into the problem, and it'll take a bit more time than usual.

I just wanted to let you know I'll write back in 48 hours with more information.

Thanks for giving me time to find the best solution."

So it's a little bit promising at least -- better than an outright refusal anyway. I get the feeling that the Canadian site/customer service reps were kind of caught with their pants down on this one so hopefully things change.

I strongly encourage anyone else who ordered the set from Amazon.ca to e-mail or call their customer service and complain/inquire about us getting this deal. It can't hurt and who knows? It might get them to honour the deal for us too!
DudeLove721
DudeLove721 - 9/15/2012, 4:38 PM
I would sit on any pre-orders for the time being. The set isn't listed on Amazon.ca anymore but the order I placed hasn't been cancelled. It doesn't do any harm to keep it there while we wait for more solid information to come out for Canada. It's not coming out until spring 2013 so either way, it gives you plenty of time to cancel the order down the road if you have to.
bambistark
bambistark - 9/15/2012, 5:16 PM
Okay, so I think I'll sit on this order for a while until there's more info. If they carry it over that'd be awesome.

Thank you, Dude you are awesome. :)
