Vin Diesel Talks Groot; Says He Was Originally In Talks To Star In A New "Phase 3" Marvel Movie

Revealing that he originally talked to Marvel about starring in one of their new "Phase 3" franchises, Vin Diesel goes on to talk more about playing Groot in Guardians of the Galaxy, revealing that he will be providing both the voice and motion capture for the character. Check it out!

In the following video interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Vin Diesel talks in detail about playing Groot in Guardians of the Galaxy, but reveals something even more interesting about Marvel's "Phase 3" plans. As it turns out, he originally met with the studio to discuss starring in a new IP (intellectual property) which would have been released in 2016 or 2017 and kicked off the next wave of movies. What that could be is anyone's guess, but it sounds like the Riddick star will be fully committing to the role of Groot by providing his voice and motion capture. I think they'll try and do something where Vin will voice groot but with have another roll for him in phase three, considering he'll only say only three things in the movie. They wouldn't waist a well known actor like that, or would they?

Interesting how Marvel chose actors from Fast and Furious and Hangover to voice these characters.

Great! Watch as everyone now comes and says he should have been Vision or Panther, and what a waste it was for him not to be either.

I like him as Groot. Can't really see him playing anyone else.

I still want him in phase 3 as another character. I mean all he's going to do in GOTG is say "I am Groot" and he isn't going to be showing his face. No ones gona be confused if he shows up as Villian/Hero later down the road in a future Marvel movie.

They have a reason for having him. Marvel didn't buy him back when they bought back Hulk, Thor, and Captain America from Universal. I'm 100% sure the rights will revert back to Marvel. Universal won't waste time on making a Namor movie because they know a stand alone Namor movie won't be successful and they aren’t' going to take the time to popularize him. They are going to sit on him until the rights revert or wait until Marvel makes an offer to buy him like they did with the others.
