Matthew Vaughn Wants To Direct The Avengers!!

On top of that he wants to reinvent Superman!
The director of "Kick-Ass," Matthew Vaughn is talking it up today telling MTV News:

"I'd love to do 'The Avengers,' And Superman... I think it would be great to reinvent Superman."

Matthew let us in on the other superhero he missed out on:

"I was desperate to do 'Iron Man' about 8 years ago, and everyone was like, 'Iron Man, no one will go watch that,'" he said. "Cut to now, and it's a huge hit."

"I grew up watching superhero films, so I want to make superhero films," he added.

If John Favreau has no confidence in "The Avengers" then I say let Matthew Vaughn have a crack at it. Definitely keep John Favreau as a Producer but let the guy who wants to light the fire, light the fire. That's what I say. What say you?

Idk it can go either way with this choice.
Unmasked - 8/28/2009, 1:10 PM
I bet a lot of ppl wanna direct it lol!

good luck to him!

He'd be good though!

ORIGINAL AVENGERS ppl!!!
LEEE777 - 8/28/2009, 1:16 PM
I say let's watch Kick-Ass first. Passion isn't talent. And Favreau might be scared but he's still psyched. He just doesn't want to over hype anything "a la" James Cameron Avatar/Worthington acting skills.
Shaman - 8/28/2009, 1:19 PM
Let's see what happens with Kick Ass first ok...then we'll see if he can handle the Big League Superhero movie.I think favs is the best one to do the Avengers movie...and anyone for supes is better than Singer...well not Uwe Boell or however you spell his name..hahahahahahaha
TheREALHumanTorch - 8/28/2009, 1:20 PM
hard to say. what other projects does he have on his resume?
droopy1317 - 8/28/2009, 1:22 PM
KICK ASS is gonna be cool!

AVATARS gonna be friggin' spectacular!!!

Damn, cant wait 2 see KICK ASS!
LEEE777 - 8/28/2009, 1:23 PM
he shouldn't be allowed near Superman. I'll be mad!
Misterfan - 8/28/2009, 1:23 PM
I agree with Shaman. Wait and See. From the leaked footage, Kick-Ass looks great, but lets see a finished product.
BaronBubba - 8/28/2009, 1:23 PM
Total agreement with JMAN. If Vaugh wants to step up to the plate, go for it, especially with Superman. The only thing thats going to save that franchise is an out of the box thinker.
SkunkApe1 - 8/28/2009, 1:23 PM
He'd do an AWESOME DOOMSDAY movie! ; )
LEEE777 - 8/28/2009, 1:27 PM
heck yeah!!!
LEEE777 - 8/28/2009, 1:27 PM
Judging how Kick-Ass looks I think he could pull off doing The Avengers.
Bandrews1 - 8/28/2009, 1:41 PM
no doomsday...lol
CorndogBurglar - 8/28/2009, 1:46 PM
as far as the avengers, i want favreau to do it, for sure.
CorndogBurglar - 8/28/2009, 1:47 PM
i agree with corndog...favs is the best choice thus far

TheREALHumanTorch - 8/28/2009, 1:48 PM
Haven't seen a Matthew Vaugh movie, so I don't know how he is as a director.
InTylerWeTrust82 - 8/28/2009, 1:49 PM
Favreau's gold in anything he does! He was practically the highlight of daredevil all together. And i'm one of those who actually liked daredevil LOL :P
Shaman - 8/28/2009, 1:55 PM
.... I don't know what to think. Personally I didn't care much for Stardust, but it wasn't damningly bad either. I saw it on DVD, and fell asleep about 45 minutes in.

It's really impossible to say if this would be agood thing or not. It could go either way. I will say this: There is no way for us to know if this guy understands how unfathomably HUGE this thing will or could be. It's a landmark effort at the very least. This is the first of it's kind.
I mean we have had FF and X Men. These are movies about teams of super heroes. But this is different. Bigger! Astranomically so. The Avengers could set the precedent for ensemble super hero flicks and crossover movies for years to come so there's a lot more at stake with this one than any other one.

I don't know if I would trust it to a relative noobie if it was my decision to make.

Personally I want Mr. John Favreau to direct it, but I get the impression that he isn't interested.
DarthMulder - 8/28/2009, 1:55 PM
I agree, Favs should do Avengers.
InTylerWeTrust82 - 8/28/2009, 1:56 PM
Favreau just doesn't want to be in Nolan's shoes and have the biggest movie ever made to top. And he doesn't want to pull off an "Avatar" either. He's playin the game like a pro if you ask me. And if that guy directed Stardust, he does have talent. But Favreau's way better. He knows how it should be made and proved it.
Shaman - 8/28/2009, 1:58 PM
PETER JACKSON!!! ; )
LEEE777 - 8/28/2009, 2:00 PM
Favreau is the ideal director for Avengers, but if he isn't confident in his abilities to make a good movie, then maybe he shouldn't direct it. The director needs to be confident in order to deliver the goods, especially with a movie like the Avengers.
InTylerWeTrust82 - 8/28/2009, 2:02 PM
i don't like P.Jack...LOTR's trilogy rocked...but KK sucked Donkey Kong's balls...he's overrated in my opinion.

TheREALHumanTorch - 8/28/2009, 2:03 PM
Fav's never said he had any confidence in it...

IT could flop, it's definitely going to be a hard [frick]in movie to make and keep everyone happy.
TheJester - 8/28/2009, 2:04 PM
Favs is confident...he just wants us fanboys not to lash out at him if maybe some minor things are wrong in the film...i wouldn't wanna be in Favs' or Nolan's shoes trying to top their comic masterpieces...i'd go insane...more power to these guys for gettin back up to the plate seeing if they can hit another home run.

TheREALHumanTorch - 8/28/2009, 2:06 PM
If Jackson should direct any super hero movie, it should be Superman IMO.
InTylerWeTrust82 - 8/28/2009, 2:06 PM
nope nope nope!!!!Jon Fav is the man for the project and its not that he doesnt have confidence in it its that when your doing all this work to lead up to the avengers people are gonna be upset if it tanks including everyone involved with the project...we need someone close to the project to direct and Fav is the man!!!!!11
bestofdabest899 - 8/28/2009, 2:06 PM
TYLER @ You got that from me IMO

; D
LEEE777 - 8/28/2009, 2:07 PM
Jackson is one of the most popular choices to direct a Superman movie. I've thought he should direct it for a while now.
InTylerWeTrust82 - 8/28/2009, 2:09 PM
: D

Anyway i say no to FAV, i dunno if i could trust the guy with a big project like AVENGERS!

He's already [frick]ed up FURY lol.

LEEE777 - 8/28/2009, 2:13 PM
Oh yeah sure you do Matthew, you might get the job and then you would spend a little while on pre-production and then you will decide you are too good for the movie and BLOODY ABANDON IT COMPLETELY. If this guy had of stuck around for X3, it might have been bloody better and Brett Ratner would have gotten nowhere near it. But I could of just about forgiven Matthew for that but then to turn around and abandon Thor too (even though we got the awesome Kenneth Branagh), Matthew is a [frick]ing douchebag. He can stay the [frick] away from the Avengers and Superman and go direct some crappy B movie. [frick]ing annoying prick. Kick-ass better be good or else!
dancingmonkey08 - 8/28/2009, 2:16 PM
I'm not very interested in Kick-Ass.

InTylerWeTrust82 - 8/28/2009, 2:19 PM
Peter Jackson for a New and Improved BatMan . The Jackson-Verse would own the Nolan-verse. Imagine the BatMan that would hold our attention and have the dread of the Lord of the Rings Trilogy.
shibazz - 8/28/2009, 2:20 PM
Dancing @ Lol! You know your right man, i forgot about that!
LEEE777 - 8/28/2009, 2:22 PM
TYLER @ Of course your not, kinda proves my point about your taste fella! ; D

Its the LEEE VS T SHOW! : D

SHIB @ Not a bad idea!
LEEE777 - 8/28/2009, 2:23 PM
why does everyone assume favreau should do avengers? just becasue he nailed iron man doesn't mean he can do the same for avengers. im not dissing the dude at all, i am just saying avengers needs to have an ensemble feel with big action peices. now i loved iron man but am i the only one who felt like half the cast in that flick were floating for their moments. i love terence howard, but he was underused and he didn't wow me at all, same with jeff bridges. their performances seemed to be on cruise control in a way. hate on me all you want, but if fav could barely contain the cast in iron man how is he gonna handle avengers? and lets wait to see how iron man 2 turns out. maybe ill be proved wrong, and god i hope i am

as for vaughn, i want to see a completed kick ass before i know this guy can do a good superflick. clips of kickass are fine and dandy, but as a whole? gotta wait and see. i mean this guy has been attached to so many comic films. lets just wait kids

i say lee should direct avengers ;)
Boogie138 - 8/28/2009, 2:23 PM
I see Jackson much more with an epic movie like Superman than a Batman movie. His style just doesn't fit Bats IMO.
InTylerWeTrust82 - 8/28/2009, 2:24 PM
boogie @ You da man!!!!! ; D
LEEE777 - 8/28/2009, 2:25 PM
Thats one for LEEE!!!!
jman1977 - 8/28/2009, 2:25 PM
Heh heh heh! ; )
LEEE777 - 8/28/2009, 2:27 PM
i'll wait to see how kick-ass is, if it kicks ass then maybe he should direct. then if it tanks keep jon for director of avengers.
LukeStar - 8/28/2009, 2:27 PM
No lee you da man
and i guess jman is the man too lol

i just want a good avengers film. i was so glad justice league was killed, they didn't think that one through
marvel seems to be trying to do this properly, but maybe instead of booking release dates they get scripts and filmakers in order. marvel i beg you lol

well if it does suck i guess we can just wait a few years for the reboot...
Boogie138 - 8/28/2009, 2:31 PM
Am i missing something lol? didn't JOHN basically say he don't want AVENGERS an would dread getting it???

Some how i doubt MARVEL would even consider the guy now?!

Well... lol.

Boogie @ ; )

An JMAN is deff da man! Yeah i know what you mean about the JLA, it would've probably turned out like the TV MOVIE lol, but more budget! Crapola! Glad they are gonna build up to JLA just like AVENGERS!
LEEE777 - 8/28/2009, 2:32 PM
Pjack should never be allowed near superman...granted he's my least favorite hero...but i think someone like the pastors or the hughes...hell i bet the coen's could do better than singer

TheREALHumanTorch - 8/28/2009, 2:35 PM
Both SUPERMAN and AVENGERS are gonna be half good atleast coz FOX don't have their hands in 'em, but yeah we are all hoping for friggin' fantastic though! ; D
LEEE777 - 8/28/2009, 2:38 PM
Ridley Scott or Robert Zemeckis could also be good directors for Superman. It's tough to find the perfect director for Supes.

I still think Neil Blomkamp and the Jackson team would make a great Superman movie.
InTylerWeTrust82 - 8/28/2009, 2:38 PM
SUPERMAN could go back to the future! : D
LEEE777 - 8/28/2009, 2:40 PM
have a sequel for [frick]'s sake...ok returns wasn't well received (I loved it), just have a sequel made. why reinvent or reboot? we have been watching the reinvention for 9 years (smallville). did james bond ever had a reboot?
Denn1s - 8/28/2009, 2:42 PM
ridley to me is a period piece director...he's great and i would love to see a modern times ridley flick...but with him on Robin Hood i don't think he'll do Supes
kudos on the choices though Tyler.
TheREALHumanTorch - 8/28/2009, 2:43 PM
uh yea...casino royale was basically a reboot...
TheREALHumanTorch - 8/28/2009, 2:44 PM
Denn1s @ I liked RETURNS too! An deff a sequel where he gets to throw a punch!!!

Torch @ it sorta isn't, JUDI DENCH is still in it!
LEEE777 - 8/28/2009, 2:46 PM
A reboot/reinvention is the best thing for the Superman franchise at the moment. They don't have to go through the origin (they shouldn't) they could just go right into Superman's career as a hero.

HumanTorch: Scott recently did a modern spy thriller called Body Of Lies, and I heard it got good reviews. I do get what you mean though about the period piece thing.
InTylerWeTrust82 - 8/28/2009, 2:46 PM
Casino Royale was a re-imagining of James Bond. It changed the game and set it apart from the other Bond films. That's exactly what I would want from a Superman reboot/re-imagining.
InTylerWeTrust82 - 8/28/2009, 2:47 PM
SEQUEL!!!

Come on ffs, its AVENGERS talkin' in here tut tut, not SUPERMAN and bloody JAMES BOND! ; D
LEEE777 - 8/28/2009, 2:48 PM
oh yeah i totally forgot about BOL...that was a great movie...i recommend it.....me and a friend were talkin about it and i couldn't remember who directed it. thanks tyler

TheREALHumanTorch - 8/28/2009, 2:48 PM
I think all of the directors should get involved in this Kenneth Branagh Jon Favreua and Joe Johnston, that would be great.
divo - 8/28/2009, 2:49 PM
i think routh would do a better job this time around
TheREALHumanTorch - 8/28/2009, 2:49 PM
i can't wait to see what Branagh does with Thor...i think that's gonna be one bad ass movie
TheREALHumanTorch - 8/28/2009, 2:51 PM
divo: I agree. They should at least be producers on Avengers.

Routh needed a good director who would let him bring his own spin on Supes. Singer and the lame ass script f*cked everything up for Returns.
InTylerWeTrust82 - 8/28/2009, 2:51 PM
AVENGERS IS A SURE WIN, YOUR TALKING THE MERGING OF MULTIPLE FRANCHISES THAT HAVE MADE OR WILL MAKE SOME MAJOR MONEY, THEN TAKING ALL THE FANS AND AUDIENCE OF EACH ONE AND MERGING IT INTO AN ALL STAR MEGA MOVIE. WHOEVER DOES IT AND DOES IT RIGHT WOULD BE CALLED" SUPERHERO GO TO MAN FORALL OF COMICDOM"
GUNSMITH - 8/28/2009, 2:51 PM
He would @ TORCH!!!

Right im off, BEER TIME! L8r all, have a good one! ; )
LEEE777 - 8/28/2009, 2:52 PM
yea routh was basically directed to play chris reeves playing supes...i think he would shine with a new direc
TheREALHumanTorch - 8/28/2009, 2:54 PM
Good Idea, @Divo, bring in the other directors to consult on Avengers.

Routh should be brought back with Jackson directing because Jackson stays true to the source material! He respects and honors the source material but puts his own spin to it.

But favs should be the over-all director of The Avengers 'cause he gets the Marvel superheroes. He is not non-confident of his abilities to direct it, he just realizes the enormous undertaking it is! I sure wouldn't want the responsibility! Yikes!

DDD - 8/28/2009, 3:07 PM
@Tyler, You're absolutely correct! Singer and his dumbass script screwed up "Returns"! DUMBASS Singer!!!
DDD - 8/28/2009, 3:10 PM
...And Vaughn should not be allowed anywhere near The Avengers...he'd probably just drop out half way through 'cause it would be too much for him!
DDD - 8/28/2009, 3:13 PM
who ever directs the avengers better do a great job and not ruin it. but heres what captain james kirk would look like in his thor gear.

cbsmitty2 - 8/28/2009, 3:44 PM
I say Favreau is the man for the job. I trust his vision for superheros. As far as reinventing Supes goes, I think not.
longbowhunter - 8/28/2009, 3:56 PM
i first have 2 see kickass to judge if he could do avengers
flames809 - 8/28/2009, 3:57 PM
@ Gunsmith: That's very true.

& @ LEEE777 About what you said about Favreau fricking up Nickolas Fury; I can't believe that you would try to saddle Favreau with the responsibility for that.

It's not his fault that so many people only know about comics from The Ultimates.

Don't you realize that half the comic reading world is screaming for these movie makers to Ultimatize all the movies and forget all about real actual Marvel U.?

In fact the larger majority of Marvel fans DO want this. We are lucky as hell Favreau chose to do ANYTHING at all classic style. You and I are in an extreme minority in wanting no Ultimatization, and what they are doing by Ultimatizing is essentially giving the average fan what they want. I would be willing to bet that it's the powers that be at MARVEL that demanded they go with Samual L for Fury which they did based on sales for the shit books which are astronomically high.

So we're on the same team on that but pelase don't think that Fury is Favreau's fault. Yeah he could have went classic if he ahd fought for it, but I would be willing to bet he was told in no uncertain terms how to proceed on that, by Marvel Studios
DarthMulder - 8/28/2009, 3:58 PM
I always wonder what his rendition of X-men 3 would've been like.
padidas - 8/28/2009, 4:33 PM
lee- how John Favreau f up fury cuz i think the black fury is better than the white one that's my opinion

Darth-it was john who chose Samuel for fury it wasn't no [frick]ing marvels that told him to pick him it was john idea he was doing the movie and he went with the black fury
flames809 - 8/28/2009, 4:39 PM
i gotta agree with what torch said earlier. favreau's under some serious pressure, he made such a good iron man movie, with next to no serious changes. i'm thinking some things are going to need to be changed for the avengers to work, and it sounds to me like it scares him. but in all honesty, for me, it doesn't matter if things are changed, as long as it still feels like the comic. the tone is what matters. you think i cared that jarvis was AI in iron man?? hell no, it made perfect sense for him to be AI. i just hope a lot of so called "fans" don't go batshit crazy and turn on him if he changes miniscule things!
CorndogBurglar - 8/28/2009, 4:41 PM
TheRealhumantorch @ casino royal wasn't a reboot but a prequel cause it was one of his first adventures.
Denn1s - 8/28/2009, 4:41 PM
Denn1s: It was a reboot. It established a new continuity and re invented James Bond as a character.
InTylerWeTrust82 - 8/28/2009, 4:44 PM
and for everyone thats waiting to judge avengers on kick ass, you need to think about that. the avengers and kickass are two VERY different monsters. kickass is a MINISERIES, with a beginning and end. what is it, 8 issues?? thats no a lot of things to worry about. get the basic story right, and we KNOW the violence is right, and your golden. but with avengers, we're talking, what, 40 years of continuity?? its not going to be an easy task to put that up on the screen.
CorndogBurglar - 8/28/2009, 4:44 PM
@ tyler & dennis

casino royale was actually a remake / reboot. there was already a movie called casino royale. they remade it, but at the same time, it established a new continuity and reinvented bond, as tyler put it. so i'd say its both, because it actually is about his first adventure.
CorndogBurglar - 8/28/2009, 4:48 PM
I agree with you there Corndog, but I think it leans towards the reboot side more than the remake side.
InTylerWeTrust82 - 8/28/2009, 4:50 PM
@ tyler

i would too, because the future of the series hasn't been laid out yet. they started this new series with this movie, and gave it a new feel, environment and everything else. it isn't actually taking place in the same timeline / universe as the old james bond movies. so i guess it is more of a reboot than prequel. same can be said about the new star trek. that was before any other star trek movie or episode, but established its own timeline and universe. so your right man, i agree!
CorndogBurglar - 8/28/2009, 4:52 PM
are they going to make another James bond movie cuz the last 2 movie was good and he never kill the guy that kill the women he loved
flames809 - 8/28/2009, 4:54 PM
Yeah, it is similar to Star Trek.
InTylerWeTrust82 - 8/28/2009, 4:54 PM

CorndogBurglar - 8/28/2009, 4:59 PM
I can't wait to see Hiddleston as Loki.

And I can't wait till Comic-Con next year when we get Thor, Captain America, Green Lantern, etc. It's going to be awesome.

Corndog: I love the new Bond films as well. Casino was amazing, and Quantum, while not as great as Casino, was still a really great movie. I enjoyed the hell out of it.
InTylerWeTrust82 - 8/28/2009, 4:59 PM

CorndogBurglar & InTylerWeTrust82

Yea the new Bond movies rock. I thought no one could top the awesome Pierce Brosnan but Daniel Craig is brilliant. I cant wait to see a new one. I think we should probably expect it in November 2011. It gives them enough time to make the next one. I think the next one is gonna reintroduce Miss Moneypenny and Q so that should be good. I dont know who would be good as at playing them. I would love to see the next one be an original story like Quantum Of Solace and then they could start adapting the original 12 James Bond books into movies. I know they already based some of the original movies on the books but most of them changed loads of the plot from the books so it would be awesome to see the books turned into more faithful movies but of course they would have to change the Cold War setting to modern day
dancingmonkey08 - 8/28/2009, 5:31 PM
Craig is one of my favorite actors now. He was perfect in Casino and in Quantum. He is my choice to play Aquaman.

I think a re-invention is just what Superman needs right now. We need to see a new, original take on Superman that would re-fresh the franchise and breathe new life into it.

I hope Branagh has some type of role in Thor as an actor too. He's an excellent actor, and it would be very cool to see him in a supporting role, or even just a cameo.
InTylerWeTrust82 - 8/28/2009, 5:36 PM
stardust was too different from the book, fav should be involved at least, but i think a collaboration is in order, that many heroes....come on, it should be in 2 parts to make up for all that story....what ever it is. as for supes, no matter what hes hard to translate in our time....thats a hard one.
ProfOJ - 8/28/2009, 5:38 PM
i think jon is confident like the other guys up there said
AvengingAngel1022 - 8/28/2009, 5:54 PM
speilberg for avengers!!!!
KillerOfSaints - 8/28/2009, 6:24 PM
I'd prefer Spielberg as a producer than a director.

It'd be great to see him and Peter Jackson as producers on a Superman movie, with Neil Blomkamp directing.
InTylerWeTrust82 - 8/28/2009, 6:34 PM
Peter Jackson sucks as a director. He made it big with Lord of the Rings so now everyone assumes all his works will be awesome but they're not. LOTR was just a fluke apparently because the guys other movies suck. That's just my opinion. But I'm pretty sure I'm right.
Joker1Zero - 8/28/2009, 6:45 PM
STARDUST sucked, so no VAUGHN fiosseor anything, and as far as FAVS. lets see how IRON MAN 2 does when it comes out then we can see. but my 1st reaction s NO! b/c of his relatonshp wth RDJ i feel like it could be another IRON MAN-ESQUE movie wth RON MAN having all the best lines AND scenes. i feel FAVS will be very biased!!!
dellamorte1872 - 8/28/2009, 11:42 PM
I say it again, don't let Vaughn near The Avengers, PLEASE!!!

I don't think Favreau would play favorites with Ironman. He is a class act and only thinks about the whole movie and it's impact on the audience.

He treated every character the same in Ironman, they all had great lines and under his direction the whole ensemble made the film explode off of the screen.

Just look at the other jobs he's done on even little independent movies. He loves movie-making and it really shows! And he loves comic books and their characters and staying true to their core-characteristics.

Just imagine Captain America, Ironman, Hulk, Thor, Ant-man/Giantman, Wasp, War Machine, and Black Widow blended together by Favreau like all the characters in Ironman and exploding off the screen and into your face! That's Favreau!

DDD - 8/29/2009, 3:28 AM
DDD @ Friggin' AWESOME THOR pics dude!!! ; 0

Guys im not going over old ground about ULTIMATE NICK lol.

An i was sorta joking about FAV! Geez lol. but like i said it sounded like he didn't want THE AVENGERS anyway so i don't get all this FAV talk lol.

DDD @ WARMACHINE, i repeat WARMACHINE should not be in the first AVENGERS movie, nor should BLACK WIDOW for that matter, but i can deal with her lol. ; D

Anyway, MARVEL wont pick FAV, not now anyway.
LEEE777 - 8/29/2009, 5:15 AM
The thing about sequels is to do the same movie again with a twist that nobody sees coming. Look at Empire Srikes Back, Godfather 2, X-2, Spiderman 2, all had added elements relevant to the 1st movie. I don't think Favreau would put the pressure on himself to beat Dark Knight, I think he would just want to do a better Iron Man film. Avengers would be in great hands with Favreau at the helm. With Marvel choosing the ultimates for the Avengers you need Black Widow, but not War Machine. It would be a great way to introduce Black Panther in there as well. The secondary heroes have to be added somewhere, nobody from Marvel is going to run the risk of giving a full movie to a character that people outside the comic world aren't familiar with. Perhaps a great test to this would be the Thor movie.

@Leee I only included War Machine in the Avengers line-up 'cause they are already introducing him in Iron-man and I'm pretty sure they'll include him in 'cause after Iron-man 2 War Machine will be a very popular character indeed! I would rather not have War Machine OR Black Widow in the first Avengers movie.

WM and BW were not in the very first original Avengers. Cap America, Iron-man, Wasp, Giant-man/Ant-man, Thor, and Hulk were. Then came Scarlet Witch, Quicksilver, Black Panther, and Hawkeye.

I would love to see the line-up as Iron-man, Cap, Thor, Hulk, Wasp, Giant-man/Ant-man, Wanda & Pietro, Black Panther and Hawkeye for the first movie. Then have Pietro leave and Vision and Black Widow join. Have the Vision-Wanda marriage with all the drama that a human (albeit in-human) and A.I./Android marriage brings.

But Wanda & Pietro are owned by that in-all-actuality 4-letter word movie co., FOX! (Damm!)

Sounds cool...

I'd rather have a guy directing a superhero movie who WANTS to do it and actually ENJOYS and KNOWS the characters rather than someone who gets stuck with the job by the studio that doesn't care at all about comics.

DDD, I like your lineup. Maybe a bit large, though. I'd think six or seven heroes is about the max for a good team, with maybe some cameos by others. Ten heroes will be hard to pull off with everyone getting their "face time" on screen. IF Wanda and Pietro are owned by Fox, I'd pull them out and the Hulk. The Hulk would work better as an adversary for the team (maybe the thing that brings them together, following the first story in the comics), imho. It wouldn't take very long to explain the origins of the characters that audiences don't know from their own individual movies. I'd think that could be done around the opening credits in five or six minutes.

So who would you like to see for the villain? I'm all for Kang the Conqueror or the Hulk (being manipulated by Loki) in the first one, with Ultron set up for the second movie.

Maybe it's just me, but I get the feeling that they (whoever writes/directs the avengers movie) will try to go for a believable fiction, much in the tradition of these recent superhero flicks. Even the Hulk, for all its sci-fi moments, was made to be a somewhat believable character - that being said, I don't see certain characters (Ant-Man, Vision, Scarlet Witch) making the cut. And if they do, their looks and abilities will likely be less gawdy. My lineup would be Iron man, Cap, Hulk, Black Widow, Hawkeye (I know he wasn't an original, but I like how he would compliment the film), Thor (I guess, since they're giving him face time - not a personal favorite), Fury, War Machine, and maybe Black Panther or somebody. As faras a director, I have liked and respected Favreau from his Swingers days all the way up to present, and his Iron Man flick was badass, but I think in order to have a truly epic piece of superhero crossover work, we would need an outsider, somebody with epic experience, but little or no superhero flick background. I would like to go old school and see if we could get Steven Spielberg would do it. If not Spielberg, someone of comparable experience. And as far as a Superman reboot, i would like to see someone actually tackle the original story from back in the 1930s - get away from these modern-day remakes and sequels to the Chris Reeve version. I like Brandon Routh, but if they do an actual revision, they would need cut loose everything but the name, the cape, and the music (much respect to John Williams). And that includes cutting loose lex Luthor, unless he could be used in just a minor form. Getaway from the comedic Lex, make him more of the sociopath that he really is. No more stupid General Zod or brainiac b.s. - Krypton is dead, along with all of its inhabitants. Give Supes fewer abilities, and no throwing of the 'S'. anyway, that's my opinion, and I'm sticking to it. The Yetti has spoken.........

This guy was originally supposed to take over X3 and he had some pretty good ideas--better than what Ratner wound up with! Then he was supposed to do Thor...and dropped out of that one too! He's nervous about taking on a big budget film, which is a good thing--that means he wants to get it right! After he's done a few more pictures, he should have the confidence to take on one of the big guns! If Favreau produced, he could knock it out of the park! I like this guy's ideas and am anxious to see him take on one of the Marvel properties!
