Composer Danny Elfman To Rework THE AVENGERS Original Theme Into AGE OF ULTRON Score

It's been known for quite some time now that Avengers: Age of Ultron will be scored by Brian Tyler (Iron Man 3 and Thor: The Dark World) instead of the original composer Alan Silvistri. However, it wasn't known until late last month that four-time Academy Award-nominated composer Danny Elfman (Batman and Spider-Man) will be "contributing additional music" to the hotly-anticipated Marvel sequel. Elfman recently spoke with 891 ABC Adelaide about re-imagining other people's scores which led to him discussing Age of Ultron. "I was doing the same thing actually just last week because I've contributed music to the new Avengers movie," revealed the composer. "I took part of Alan Silvestri's theme on the original [movie], which I really liked, and I pulled it into it new theme, which became kind of a hybrid. I really enjoyed that." So, despite new composers coming on board to score Avengers: Age of Ultron, it seems we'll still hear the great theme  from the first movie at some point, if not throughout, the superhero calamity. Perhaps it will be when Earth's mightiest heroes assemble for the mandatory money group shot.  What do you think?

Marvel Studios presents Avengers: Age of Ultron, the epic follow-up to the biggest Super Hero movie of all time. When Tony Stark tries to jumpstart a dormant peacekeeping program, things go awry and Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, including Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, The Incredible Hulk, Black Widow and Hawkeye, are put to the ultimate test as the fate of the planet hangs in the balance. As the villainous Ultron emerges, it is up to the Avengers to stop him from enacting his terrible plans, and soon uneasy alliances and unexpected action pave the way for an epic and unique global adventure. Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron stars Robert Downey Jr., who returns as Iron Man, along with Chris Evans as Captain America, Chris Hemsworth as Thor and Mark Ruffalo as The Hulk. Together with Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow and Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye, and with the additional support of Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury and Cobie Smulders as Agent Maria Hill, the team must reassemble to defeat James Spader as Ultron, a terrifying technological villain hell-bent on human extinction. Along the way, they confront two mysterious and powerful newcomers, Wanda Maximoff, played by Elizabeth Olsen, and Pietro Maximoff, played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and meet an old friend in a new form when Paul Bettany becomes Vision. Written and directed by Joss Whedon and produced by Kevin Feige, Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron is based on the ever-popular Marvel comic book series “The Avengers,” published in 1963. Get set for an action-packed thrill ride when The Avengers return in Avengers: Age of Ultron May 1, 2015.

Good news. Superhero movies lack an existing theme nowadays. Theres always a new composer with each sequel nowadays, so its nice for this continuity. Thats why TDK and Raimi spiderman trilogy were even greater. They had the same epic musical scores.

Mother Effing Yes! Most people seriously under-value the effect of an iconic film score. Avengers could be one of the greatest franchises of all time but it won't be as iconic if it doesn't have a memorable theme.

I personally enjoyed the first Thor theme better than the second one. Still, this is excellent news!!!

There goes the "Something something Elfman-Spider-Man-Age of Ultron!" theories...

Still, I LOVE that they won't be abandoning the original score from The Avengers. It's easily one of my favorites of the MCU. If there's one thing the Marvel movies have been lacking, it's keeping the same themes from each movie.

Iron Man 1 had one of the best scores...and it was completely dropped except for a tiny, brief moment in Iron Man 3. The Winter Soldier did a great job of incorporating the score from The First Avenger, but that was the exception. Fingers crossed that The Avengers theme shows up early and often in Age of Ultron.

imo he should have been hired to do the score for AOU. Brian Tylers themes are generic and unmemorable.

This entire scene wouldn't have worked nearly as well if it hadn't been for the score. MOAR of this in Age of Ultron, please!

Thanks npamusic...now I know why it wasn't memorable. :(

The horn at the 1:06 mark is the only thing that rings a be...no, no I won't be making musical puns.

To me, a great theme is something so vivid that you can hum it from memory.
