Nathan Fillion on Avengers & Playing Ant-Man

A couple of days ago at the Iron Man 2 premiere, MTV caught up with Nathan Fillion. He shares his thoughts on Joss Whedon directing Marvel's Avengers film, which hasn't been confirmed by Marvel themselves. When asked, Fillion also shares how he feels about playing Hank Pym aka Ant-Man in The Avengers.



"I appreciate that," said Fillion of suggestions that he'd be perfect for the role of Pym. "Maybe it's because of my diminutive size?"

"I'm familiar with the character," said Fillion. "I think Hank's powers come in really handy when you have to slip into a crack to defuse a bomb somewhere that no one else can reach. ... Or spying in girls' locker rooms."

"But knowing Joss, he'd give him something very clever, and very cool to do — something that no one can do without," he laughed.

Fillion said he hadn't spoken with Whedon since the "Avengers" news, and at this point in his career, the "Buffy" creator has already done so much for him that he wouldn't feel right asking for a role in the Marvel movie.

"There comes a point in time where one single man does so much for you that you can't ask him to do anything more for you," he said.

But what if Whedon offered him a part?

"Boom!" he shouted. "I'm in!"

I still say this guy should've been Hal Jordan, but he could work as Hank Pym.

@Lee Lmao! I also think he would make a perfect Hank Pym, but hope that they go indepth with the Pym Particles and do not let it get gymicy.

God no he'd suck as Pym...btw it really shouldn't be up to Joss to cast Pym since it's really Edgar's character. If Ant-Man does show up in the Avengers you can bet that Wright had to have given the actor the okay...because he'll have to be dealing with the same actor in the Ant-Man solo movie. Chances are right now it's more likley to be Simon Pegg than fugly Nathan Fillon.

Seriously why do people like TV actors in these kind of roles? Ugh...

That would be awesome! Can you see at the climax of the movie, when you think everyone is down for the count, he rises as Giant-Man and kicks ass?!?!?!? With a cool line like, "Did I mention it works both ways?" Freakin' awesome!!!!

He doesn't exactly scream Hank Pym to me. I've seen Aaron Eckhart suggested, and I think he looks more like him, at least the way he's drawn in what I've read.

Well, I can see it. And I've liked him since Firefly so I wouldn't have a problem with this.

Oh, and Jeremy Renner was there too, right? I'm hoping that means that Hawkeye rumor is still a possibility.

I don't know the guys name, but I thought the blond guy that played the pilot on Firefly/ Serenity more looked the part. I could see Fillion as Hawkeye.

@Mindform i would rather hawkeye be in than scarlet witch, wasp, or giant man. but i am pretty sure he wont be. there will be enough people in the movie as it is...

Fillion is the right personality for Hank, for sure!
It doesn't matter that much what he looks like on
the outside. It's not like Hank Pym's Steve Rogers or
Prince Namor, with a very distinct physical
appearance!

Personally I don't want an ANT-MAN movie from
Wright and Pegg! It'll just be a stupid "HONEY I
SHRUNK THE KIDS" comedy! YUK!!! Hank Pym & Jan are
not a joke!!!

Fillion would be great! He's not just a TV actor!
He starred in Serenity and that was released in the
theaters and I thought it was one of the better
sci-fi movies that's been in the theaters! I thought
it stood pretty good on it's own!

Fillion has been in the theater movies, SAVING
PRIVATE RYAN, BLAST FROM THE PAST, DRACULA 2000,
WATER'S EDGE, & SLITHER. He's not just a TV actor!
He had major roles in some of those movies!

But I am glad they are talking about Hank Pym being
in THE AVENGERS now 'cause that's where he belongs!

personally I don't think Fillion would make a bad Pym at all. I think he could do a snooty, egotistical, science workaholic just fine.

Heh kinda makes you wonder. What would happen if Whedon saw this interview. Would he be like "Oh, I am so casting him as Ant-man!" LoL Still IF Whedon is doing the Avengers movie I doubt he'll be the one casting the part. If he is Wright better be around to help him decide seeing how it's more his character than Whedon's. That being said. I think Fillion is pretty awesome and his personality is kinda perfect for Hank. I would definately like to see him in the role.

Ryden@ You do know that Nathan Fillion is a film and television actor, correct? Why do people discount television actors anyway? Need I list all the television/film crossover actors that there have been? There are many television actors who are better actors than those on the big screen.
