Edward Norton Adresses The Avengers Dispute

Following Marvel Studios' president confirming Edward Norton not being involved in the upcoming "Avengers" movie and the actor's agent responding in a heavy statement, the man of the moment has released a high road statement on his FaceBook page involving the dispute.

As most of you know, I don't like to talk much about the business of making movies because it means a lot to me to protect the audience's fullest enjoyment of the 'magic' that films can have. But I am so appreciative of the outpouring of support from fans of the Hulk and the Avengers that I feel it would be rude not to respond. So here goes: It seems it won't work out for me to continue playing Bruce Banner for Marvel in "The Avengers." I sincerely hoped it could happen and be great for everyone but it hasn't turned out as we all hoped. I know this is disappointing to many people and that makes me sad. But I am very sincerely grateful to Marvel for extending the offer and even more so for giving me the chance to be a part of the Hulk's long and excellent history. And I really can't thank the fans enough for how much enthusiasm you've sent me way about what Louis and I tried to do in our turn with the legend. It means a lot to me. I grew up with Banner and Hulk and have been a fan of every incarnation. I'm really proud, and very blessed, to have been one of them and will be thrilled to see him live on through other actors. Hulk is bigger than all of us, that's why we love him, right?

Sincerely,
Edward Norton

That pretty much says everything. So it seems to be real folks, and not a smoke screen like most of us hoped, wished, and dreamed. What do you think?

Norton comes off smelling like roses in all this. Feige really [frick]ed the fans on on this one. Way to go Mr. Hollywood!

A f**king class act all the way, too bad I can't say the same for Marvel. Between the bullshit reboots, and f**king up several castings Marvel really let us all down. I hope they realize how we the fans feel about the horrible choices they are making, after all we're only the ones spending our money to put in their pockets. No big deal right????????????????????????

Oh well, I'm glad he took the high road and didnt make the slightly offensive sort of remarks that Feige did! Regardless, I think Marvel Studios can find an actor just as good, if not better, than Norton so just move on now people and "boycott" The Avengers if you like but only you will miss out...Marvel sure wont miss your one cinema ticket, lol! :P

You know there is so much more to this than what we are seeing. Between the money, the politics, and the pride, it's just a giant Hollywood mess. It's a shame because we, the fans, are the ones who suffer for it. The on again off again relationship between actors, writers, and studios just gets our hopes up then dashes them to pieces. They all talk about how much they care about the fans and how much our support means to them, but our voice rarely makes a difference in how the film progresses. I understand that Hollywood is a business and they want to make money. If they did not make money, films would not continue to be made. But really? Just admit it all boils down to the mighty dollar and quit pretending it's something else. I liked Norton in The Incredible Hulk, but I'm not sorry to see the drama between him and the studio go away.

Norton could've totally dissed Marvel, but I'm glad he's more focused on trying to keep things as drama free for the fans as he can make it. He understands that the Hulk is bigger than him and has a legacy that outweighs any actor. I'm still sad to see him go, and it spoils a lot of the enthusiasm I had for Avengers. Marvel has to really make it up to the fans an do some serious damage control.

It's been a drama between Ed and Marvel for almost a year. Everything is about money and creative rights. He did what he wanted with Hulk, even surpassing the director. Maybe Norton also wanted more than a paycheck and with RDJ,CE,CH on board who knows if there was going to be problems. Maybe even Joss whedon had something to do. The fact is that will never know.

I've seen Norton on really small rolls and cameos in small budget movies. It is not an issue for him the money, only the control over the Banner he created.

Well played Mr. Norton. That's how you break the news to the fans. Take note Kevin Feige, this dude's an actor. Your the head of the studio, start acting like it.

Avengers will suck with or without Norton....Unless they recast Cap. Then it might have hope.
