Talking recently with Collider, actor Jeremy Renner, the 'Hawkeye' of Marvel's forthcoming superhero flick The Avengers, discussed the establishing the character from Thor, and further doing so in a potential solo movie. Also dishing on The Bourne Legacy in the full interview, linked below, check out an excerpt.

Whether it was fun setting up 'Hawkeye' in Thor, before establishing the character in The Avengers...
"It’s actually difficult because there’s not a lot to do. In Thor, I had to just stand in a bucket and hold my bow and arrow. What’s the character? I have no idea. I was thrown into that very quickly, so it was like, “Am I trapping myself?” It’s a little strange. I don’t know if it’s a good thing. I don’t think I’d go about it, normally, that way. It’s certainly a different way to go about taking on a role."

Whether it ended up trapping him at all...
"No, it was so small and minuscule. It was just saying a few lines. I felt like it would be tough to screw up."

Whether he'd like to further establish Hawkeye in a solo film...
"I don’t know. There are a lot of variables in that one. Would they want to make one? What would it be about? There are a lot of things. I suppose, if they all align, then it could be interesting ‘cause I certainly like the character. But, I don’t know what the future holds."

On what’s it like actually being one of The Avengers...
"It’s great. It’s an amazing cast, and I wish I got to do more with them. But, I had fun with the people I did get to work with."

On whether he gets the feel of an ensemble movie from The Avengers...
"Oh, yeah. It’s huge. Look at how many characters are in that thing. It was the ultimate challenge for Joss Whedon, who knows that universe so well. There was no one better to write it. He was so challenged, to write and direct that thing. I don’t know how you put that many characters in a movie like that. It’s immense. But, with that, you pass the baton. You get to work with very few of them ‘cause everybody’s got their own thing going on. Someone’s in the air, flying around. I’m on the ground, shooting a bow and arrow. There are a lot of things happening. I have no idea what that movie looks like. Zero idea. Most of the time, I have a good idea of how it’s going to turn out because I’ve seen so much of it, but I have no idea. I feel like I might be an extra in it. I’m not sure."

Intruder, that sounds awesome. Gives those characters that don't need a solo movie at all a chance, Led by Nick Fury, Hawkeye, War Machine and Black Widow take on a modern day Hydra, featuring Lady Hydra and Baron Strucker. Guest appearance by Zola.

Sounds like he'll just be a supporting charachter to me.. Which he (kind of, just a little bit) is. Solo film won't happen either way. I'm not bashing, just being honest. I actually like this guy. Bring on Summer 12' I'm totally stoked for this flick. Almost as much as I am for TDKR

Hm. I wouldn't MIND a Hawkeye solo film someday, but if we're only getting two Marvel Studios films a year, I'd rather not see one of them wasted on Hawkeye.

No solo Hawkeye movie. I would rather see a SHIELD movie with him and Mocking Bird going after Black Widow after she is discovered to be a double agent for Hydra. Also add Maria Hill, Nick Fury Dum Dum Dugan, Sharon Carter, Falcon and some Iron Man and Captain America cameos. Money in the bank for Marvel right there.

I would personally like to see Hawkeye adopt the alias of Ronin. Now if he was Ronin, then I can definetly see a solo movie. That should include the street level heroes such as Luke Cage, Iron Fist, Punisher, and Moon Knight. Marvel really have the chance to capitalize on some very good movies. Just wish they had Spiderman rights back so he can be in the MCU.

SHIELD movie is plausible. No way Hawkeye should ever get a stand alone movie.

Black Panther deserves a solo movie before Hawkeye. Come to think of it Jefferey Wright is in the Avengers. I wonder if he is secretly playing T'Challa. I know everyone think he is the voice of Thanos. But I think he can pull off an African accent.

Like Intruder said (and what many fans have been saying, including myself): No to a Black Widow movie. No to a Hawkeye movie. Why? Not only are they not tentpole heroes, but you can only do so much with them. Could they hold down a solo film? With the history the characters have, there's no doubt in my mind they could. But their films would need quite a bit of fluffing up. Would they be origin movies? Would they pick up after Avengers?

Honestly, it would be to Marvel's benefit if they just made a SHIELD movie featuring Coulson, Maria Hill, Black Widow, and Hawkeye. This way, you could still get some insight to each of the characters' origin stories while also telling a new story that picks up after the Avengers. To separate it from the Avengers team-up feel, have it be more espionage, spy-like. Unfortunately, this would mean the third time Jeremy Renner would play a spy type role (Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol, 4th Bourne film).

I think Hawkeye should of had a big role. It's sounds like his role is small. If there's a hawkeye film in the works for the future he should get more screen time.

I like the idea of a solo movie however it wouldnt work like marvel would hope. It more possible for a SHEILD movie with Nick F. Blk Widow & Hawkeye. Develop back stories in flash back kinda like Green Lantern EK. Im with @cable23 BP needs a solo b4 Hawkeye

thank you, i am in complete agreement. they have no business being in the initial Avengers movie. maybe down the line in sequels, but they have no business being front line characters.

I'm not sure, I mean I've never been THAT familiar with Hawkeye and I don't know either if he needs (or actually, if the character is able to create) a solo movie. But anyway, he looks cool so far, so can't wait to see him in The Avengers. :)

Intruder That'd be a lot better; an Ant-Man movie with Ultron as the villain would be sick IMO.

Meh... I could care less about a Hawkeye solo movie. And not to make this into a "Marvel vs DC debate/war/battle" (whatever you want to call it) but I think I'd prefer a Green Arrow movie over a Hawkeye movie. Just my personal preference.

Aww, yeah! This is going to get frigging EPIC!!!

If they can come up with a script that has a crisp and entertaining story/plot for a solo Hawkeye movie, then, please, by all means, DO IT! But, I'm thinking that maybe they shouldn't do just a solo movie of Hawkeye. They could do another Avengers type movie with different superhero characters with Hawkeye. Just what Intruder and Spidex3000 said earlier (which sounds amazing, you guys), they should have Black Widow, War Machine, Ant-Man, and maybe, just maybe, Mocking Bird (a great opportunity to introduce her). That way we can have an Avengers team that kind of resembles the Secret Avengers, who are under direct orders of S.H.I.E.L.D. But, I was thinking instead of having them taking on and battling a modern day HYDRA, maybe they could take on A.I.M. Since we've already been introduced to HYDRA in CA: TFA, I think this is an opportunity for Marvel Studios to introduce A.I.M. and M.O.D.O.K. to us. But, either one (HYDRA or A.I.M.) is a-okay with me.
Anyways, I can't wait for The Avengers next year! Bring it on!!

AVENGERS........ASSEMBLE!!!!!!!!!

I freakin' love Hawkeye! he's up there with Cap and Spidey as one of my favorite heroes.

buuuuuuuut I don't know if a SOLO movie could work, now a SHIELD movie with him and Black Widow as the main heroes, that would be awesome!
