Conducted while the final bits of filming were underway, actors Scarlett Johansson and Jeremy Renner, among others, shared with FilmInk their characters' place in the film, relationship and more. And of course, the director-writer of the most-anticipated superhero flick, Joss Whedon, also commented on the actors, their 'Black Widow' and 'Hawkeye' roles and more.

"Our charaters have a long history," she says. "They've fought together for a long time in a lot of battles in many different countries. We're the two members of this swinging group who are skilled warriers - we have no superpowers. Black Widow is definitely one of the team though. She's not in the cast simply to be a romantic fall or eye candy. She's there to fight, so I never felt like I was the only girl. We all have out various skills and it feels equal."

Renner describes the popular mindset of a sniper, "It's a lonely game," the actor offers. "He's an outcast. His only connection is to Scarlett's character, Natasha. It's like a left hand/right hand thing. They coexist, and you need them both, especailly when it comes to physical mission" Johansson concurs. "We back one another. We're on the same team"

Joss Whedon then when on to describe the two actors, as well how they potentially relate to their S.H.I.E.L.D. operatives roles in the movie.

"Scarlett is the least like her character because she's so funny," the director says. "She's just a riot. The only problem with Scarlett is that every now and again I have to go, 'Okay honey, now we have to act. Stop being cute."" Here Black WIdow is a darker incarnation than she was in Iron Man. We hint at a bit of her backstory and it ain't pretty,"

Describing Renner as a "bit of a wild card and loner who keeps to himself," Whedon offers that, "He's playing a sniper, so naturally, he keeps his distance. He's fully engaged, but he's in his own place. He and Black Widow share a very cool bond. I'm not gonna say, but therer ain't a lot time for kissing in my movie. I've got too many goddam characters"
