I assume that the 1 Billion is the marketing budget for the movie as well as the merchandising and etc. They will make quite a bit of money with the merchandise factored in.

The 1 Billion Marketing has nothing to do with the movie, that's Targets own marketing for their cards people!! It's a billion dollars because its worldwide marketing not just domestic! Around half of that ($4-500 million) will probably be for marketing in the USA alone, the rest would be for marketing in all the other territories around the world. None of that is money spent by the film company on the movie, they have their own marketing budget and it's be a whole lot less than a billion dollars.

When I'm really looking forward to a movie the only thing that starts to chip away at my excitement is seeing it marketed to [frick]. I love seeing the images of the cast and a few bits of them pop up here and there. But for me it's overkill as a fan.

I know they have to market the movie, make it hideously profitable and rinse every pound/dollar out of it. But it just takes the shine off it for me. It feels less about the credibility 'Iron Man' gave the Marvel movies and more about churning out a cash cow.

The merchandising is slowly cheapening this movie for me. I wonder if they give me a free pack of trading cards with my purchase of Hulk Smash Cologne

Is this their promotion? Really? This is the best they can do? Not to mention these cut and paste of THE SAME DAMN IMAGES they been feeding us since they first started poppin up, images that aren't anything but [frick]in drawings instead of actual pictures of the stars in their outfits. I'm so going to see the Avengers but this is the worst promotion ever.

Let's have a big hurrah for the 90's Marvel Fleer Flair sets! Man, I loved those cards. Collecting them was a blast. I still have a few holes to fill in the second set but I have all of the first set.
