Commenting on designing Captain America's uniform, his unexposed ears, seeing the film finished, and much more, watch the nine-and-a-half minute long video interview below!
Here's a transcribed excerpt that address the design of Captain America's suit.
"For the costume of Captain America I had to really get involved and ensure that Chris [Evans] appears as a tall, muscular strongest possible in fact. [...] Joss [Whedon] had the desire to suit the film version of the Avengers to offer a version closer to that of comics with minor adjustments. [...] We have encountered some problems especially with the helmet the Captain, he would for example be opened with the ears of Captain in the open air, but I think it did not work. So we decided to cover the ears. You know I saw the movie and I think that really makes the costume well on the big screen. [...] What I can tell you is that everyone has been very involved and really tried to offer the best costumes. [...] I wanted really make the transition from World War II and when he wakes up 70 years later when we discover a completely different outfit. And that, that will interest people."
