After outing their return yesterday by releasing a preview of their first single in fifteen years, which contributes to the "Avengers Assemble" soundtrack of Marvel's The Avengers movie, the American rock band Soundgarden has issued a statement via press release. Revealing the track list, which features additional performers, and the release date for Alan Silvestri's original score for the motion, read below!

BURBANK, Calif., March 27, 2012 -- Marvel Music/Hollywood Records announce the return of Soundgarden with the release of the band's first song in 15 years, "Live to Rise." The song will be featured in the end credits to this year's highly anticipated movie, "Marvel's The Avengers." "Live to Rise" is included on Avengers Assemble, a 14-track compilation of music from and inspired by the film. Avengers Assemble will be released on May 1, 2012.

Soundgarden stated, "We've been hard at work on our new album, which will come out this Fall. When the opportunity arose to write an original song for the film came our way, we thought it could be a cool match. We are excited to release our new song, which is also the only new song in the film. Here's a taste. Loudest of Love."

Also, The Avengers original motion picture soundtrack, with score by Oscar®-nominated and GRAMMY-winning composer Alan Silvestri ("Captain America: The First Avenger," "Forrest Gump," the "Back to the Future" trilogy) will be available at online retailers on May 1, 2012. epic movie needs epic bands on the soundtrack. Iron Man 1 and 2 had Suicidal Tendencies, Clash, AC-DC, and freakin Sabbath for gods sakes. Even Thor had Foo Fighters, (ok it was lame ballad Foos, not balls out rockin Foos).

We need bands whose names survive the next 2 decades.
Where's the Muse? Queens of the Stone Age? Frickin Nine Inch Nails was used in the trailer, where the Hell are they?

no, instead we get Black Veil Brides. (shudders)
also, inter-changeable post-grunge radio rock bands like Shinedown, Theory of a Deadman and Buckcherry.

Evanescence? Really? I did't realise the movie was marketed towards wannabe scenesters.

Scott Weiland? the guys been crawling on the floor for the last decade. Bush? why did they even get back together? Papa Roach? musical junk food.

Rise Against and Five Finger Death Punch? sigh. sighhhhhhhhh.

One Soundgarden song trumps all other songs on this disc lol.

Yeah, Soundgarden's the only decent band on there, although to me they haven't put out a decent album since BadMotorFinger (it's true, it's true). Maybe the Bush track will be passable. Everything else is pretty much the crapola that killed rock radio for me (and most likely for millions of others). This bland BS is to blame for the death of rocknroll... Although on second review there have been a couple BuckCherry songs I've liked...

Ugh, I had high hopes when I heard the clip of the Soundgarden song but the rest of these bands...just no. Maybe Evanescence could work if it were a different movie. Papa Roach was ok when they first started, but since then they've turned into bad pop rock.

They should've added some Skillet to the mix. "Monster" is a perfect theme song for Hulk.
