During the early days of production on Marvel Studios' "best outing yet," The Avengers, nearly one hundred reporters and media outlets were invited to the highly-secretive soundstage set in Albuquerque, New Mexico. And until today, an embargo refrained them from revealing anything they saw. But now the folks from MovieFone are the first of many to reveal their set report, in addition to revealing new behind-the-scenes stills!

UPDATE: Collider and Slashfilm have collaborated for a two-part video recap of their 'set visit' report!

When Renner completed his escapade -- battling unidentifiable aliens, then stabbing one in the neck with an arrow -- most seemed pleased with the result. Did it give us any more information about the actual story? No, not really. But that didn't matter. Like the “Avengers” trailers and posters, this scene was a fanboy's wet dream -- 100 percent pure unadulterated geek awesomeness.

During my stay in New Mexico, I had the pleasure of speaking with Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Mark Ruffalo, Tom Hiddleston, Chris Hemsworth, Clark Gregg, and Joss Whedon. They were all gracious, pleasant and talkative hosts. However, getting them to say anything remotely resembling the storyline was like dealing with a well-oiled politician who lightly tiptoes around the issue then quickly changes the topic. Downey echoed similar sentiments. “It's just a really good story that could've been done a hundred ways wrong -- don't act surprised at how unpredictable it is.”

Eventually, our group was able to see some of that dialogue in action: a scene where Captain America and Tony Stark fight over a character's recent death. As we sat at the other end of the warehouse, listening in on headphones, we frantically wrote everything they said.

Captain America: Was he married?
Tony Stark: No, just a cellist.
Captain America: Sorry, he seemed like a good man.
Tony Stark: He was an idiot
Captain America: He was doing his job.
Tony Stark: For taking Loki alone, he was out of his league.
Captain America: Is this the first time you've lost a soldier?
Tony Stark: We are not soldiers! I am not marching in Fury's fight.
Captain America: Neither am I. He's got the same blood on his hands as Loki. Right now we've got to put that aside and get this done.

During our second day on set, we finally got the “scoop” we had come for. After leaving Renner at the abandoned train depot and returning to Albuquerque Studios, Marvel Studios President, Kevin Feige, showed us around the art department. Unfortunately, we were explicitly told that we could not write notes or record anything while we were walking through it.

Afterward, I quickly scribbled down as much as I could remember, and combined it with several tidbits we had picked up along the way. There is a random shack in the middle of Calcutta, where Bruce Banner is holed up; a tree-covered mountaintop, where Thor, Iron Man and Captain America go toe-to-toe; a scene where Thor swings his hammer at Cap's shield; Cap's house in Brooklyn; the Wishbone Lab where Loki is experimented on, possibly by scientist Erik Selvig (Stellan Skarsgard); Iron Man, without his mask, falling from a skyscraper; and, lastly, the top of the Chrysler Building being struck by lightening. Answers! (Well, at least, some answers.) Eventually, most of these designs came to life when the official “Avengers” trailer hit the Internet.

I think the reports of Agent Coulson being in Iron Man 3 are subterfuge to avoid spoiling a big moment in The Avengers, I think Agent Coulson dies.

Tony Stark: We are not soldiers! I am not marching in Fury's fight.

Captain America: Neither am I. He's got the same blood on his hands as Loki. Right now we've got to put that aside and get this done.

These are the best two lines I could have heard from this movie. I have said since this movie was announced that I hope SHIELD is simply used to bring the heroes together. I have hoped beyond hope that they would tell SHIELD to get screwed at some point in the film or maybe the next and not be government henchmen.

These two lines seem to confirm this will happen at some point.

Nice, Cap actually looks pretty decent in that pic of him running on the street.

It can't be Coulson. Marvel just introduced the character, and he's a fan favorite. I know Joss has a history of killing fan favorites, but I don't think Marvel would want that. Unless they kill him and bring him back some way? Sequel?

I would be fine with Coulson getting the ax. I don't understand why people like him so much.

Cap's helmet doesn't look too bad here! Also liking that bit of dialogue with Tony and Steve. Sounds like Joss has some great dialogue in store for us!

Awesome, very awesome. And, about the (Spoiler...kind of)death, I am very curious of who would that be. (The dialogues don't reveal anything much, actually, so I'm not taking it as such a big spoiler.)

And yes, those lines sound great. The images, too. Just...can't wait.

I LOVE THE COSTUME..THE ONLY THINGS I'D CHANGE:

1. THE SILVER SHOULDER FENDERS.
2. EAR MUFFS.
3. FABRIC COWL INSTEAD OF HELMET.
4. MORE MUSCLE CONTOURED AS OPPOSED TO FLAPS ,FLAT LAYERS AND ZIPPERS.

the way i read this is that hawkeye is unable to identify these aliens
why
because they are shapeshifting SKRUUUUUUUUUUUUUUULLLLLLLLS!

its okay ive resigned myself to the fact that a skrull movie is a project in itself,I just like deluding myself.

Isn't that scene set in Stuggart meant to be the crowd after an opera? Confused about who the dead guy will be. I would have thought, like trojan said, that a cellist (maybe the man who stands up to Loki in the first place that Cap saves?) comes at Loki and gets taken down, but Cap says he was 'doing his job' which suggests a SHIELD agent. Wierd.

Johansson: That's a girl thing. That has nothing to do with being a superhero. I'm talking about that it's, like, 800 degrees in my costume … and it's a unitard, and I have nothing underneath it!

-"HE was doing his job",is a male agent.

Wasn't there a report a long time ago that said Coulson is MORE than just a SHIELD agent? I could be wrong, but if this is true, then maybe some of the predictions you guys have made are right!

Dr. Selvig was with The Avengers and Loki during the Central Park shoot. People assume that's the final scene and it mostly likely is. So I think Selvig lives. Coulson is important to the MCU. I don't think anyone important will die in this film other than Loki's army. However, it's possible that the character is presumed dead during the first half of the film, only to "rise from his grave" towards the end.

But Stark said "cellist" so this is probably that old man you defies Loki's attempt to subjagate the folks in Stuttgart. The question, does Stark know him personally?
Fogs
Fogs - 4/2/2012, 9:46 AM
Selvig won't die. He was on the set on a scene that seemed to be the end, when aside from Loki and THor, they were all on civil clothing.

And I don't think it's coulson as well, I just don't feel like it's him. But if it is that's cool, it will be shocking.

And my anger...the guy in the hat had some seriously cool things to say ("talking about 2015...") and that [frick]in turnip next to him couldn help interrupting him and deviating the conversation away from anything that was remotely awesome!
