Joss Whedon Offers Details for S.H.I.E.L.D. TV Series!

Hot off the heels of the big reveal that a TV pilot for Marvel's S.H.I.E.L.D. is moving forward “immediately,” the first details for the live-action project have been revealed via Joss Whedon!

News broke only hours ago that ABC are green-lighting a live-action TV series based on Marvel's peacekeeping organization, S.H.I.E.L.D., and the first details have been revealed via the pilot's co-writer & prospective director Joss Whedon. Moderating the Writers Guild Theater today, Variety quotes the filmmaker saying:

“The storyline for the proposed series will be largely "autonomous" from the "Avengers" sequel feature. The series will revolve around the activities of the SHIELD org governing body for the superheroes featured in "Avengers.”

As reported earlier, Whedon will direct the pilot, if his schedule allows it. And he's being credited as the co-writer alongside his brother, Jed Whedon & his wife Maurissa Tancharoen. And the Dollhouse trio are also serving as executive producers with Jeffrey Bell and Marvel TV’s Jeph Loeb. What do you think?

it makes sense that its a shield based tv show. I think that it will be some sort of segway/intro to heroes for hire earzmundo. Now whatever is going on with the Hulk tv show, i seriously doubt it will star mark ruffalo. Probably have some sort of connection between the two shows. Great News!!!!!!

i bet its going to be great and then canseled after one season because of the cost to make it just like fire fly and it should focus on the two from the marvel one shot item 42

nahh, dont be so negative. If this was greenlit five years ago...it wouldnt have made it a full season. There is so much money in marvel, they'll do whatever they want to for a while..

I wonder if this will end up being like the X-Files or Fringe, but with superheros.

@dracula, it's doubtful those 2 will play a part in the series. Jesse Bradford is the star of an NBC sitcom debuting this fall and Lizzy Caplan is the star of a Showtime drama debuting next year.

OH gravy! I mean goodie! He's directing a big budget sequel and doing this show. He better leave Avengers 3 to someone else. Not a concern troll or hater, but does the term "burnout" mean anything?

Maybe that's the deal with that Fiege;

"I develop the show & stay on for the sequel.., that's it."

Otherwise I see some serious thinning of quality. Joss is only a man.., with one heck of a ssssssspeech impediment.

SHIELD makes a lot of sense as a TV show. Plus by then, How I Met Your Mother is likely to have ended, meaning Cobie Smulders as Maria Hill has the potential to be a main cast member in the series, likely as a stand in for Nick Fury (can't imagine Samuel L Jackson doing TV).

I wouldn't mind a SHIELD tv show with Agent Maria Hill as the lead. Cobie would be great in the role and it would expand her role while bridging a connection to the movies.
Logan5
Logan5 - 8/28/2012, 11:55 PM
I think the tv actress hired to play Maria Hill has been immersed(at this point)with enough Marvel minutia that after the HIMYM contract ends, we'll soon see a better version of Maria Hill than we got last May. She is good.., was Joss attracted to her on set? That's the best he could get out of her? The Broken Lizard guys got an equal performance. In all seriousness this might actually be a great vehicle for Smulders and would work on the Whedon screen; stop, you all know he's better with episodic tales.
