Louis D'Esposito Talks THE AVENGERS Sequel, Thanos & GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY

Commenting on Thanos' presence in the Marvel cinematic universe, co-chairman Louis D'Esposito also teases The Avengers sequel's roster, and Guardians of the Galaxy. Check it out!

Making more promotional rounds for Marvel's The Avengers Blu-ray and DVD release, the studios' co-president, Louis D'Esposito has delved more into future expansions of the Marvel cinematic universe. Teasing The Avengers sequel's expanded roster, D'Esposito also dots on the film that's expected to lead directly into that Joss Whedon-directed “2015 cinematic event,” Guardians of the Galaxy. He also comments on their prospective villain.

When Cine Premiere asked the Marvel co-chairman what character he would have liked to see in the original box office behemoth, D'Esposito said, “we discussed it at the time and I think in The Avengers 2 will see some new characters. We're currently working on Phase 2 and we have Iron Man 3 , Thor: The Dark World and Captain America: The Winter Soldier , so we returned to those franchises to enlarge them, but I think in The Avengers 2 will see one or two new characters.”

Regarding The Avengers' new threat, the original film's mid-credits surprise may have already revealed him to be the Mad Titan Thanos. However, after that was brought, D'Esposito could only say, “I think Thanos' presence keeps the audience interested. At the end of Iron Man, many did not know who was Nick Fury and many wondered who the patch. serves to generate interest and from there you can go ahead and tell their stories.”

Even if Thanos doesn't appear in The Avengers sequel, Marvel president Kevin Feige has hinted that the plum villain will be the centerpiece of the James Gunn-directed Guardians of the Galaxy movie. When asked about the 2014 interstellar superhero team-up, D'Esposito says, “In the development process we have many characters and stories are always planning and a concept that we thought we could use and would be unsatisfactory. Decided to do it. Not think there's a secret formula, as you know we have a Black Panther, Iron Fist, Luke Cage & more that we are developing and things & all you want to be made, but few [films] are made before others.”

As for the gun-toting Rocket Raccoon, D'Esposito said he “has the potential to give a good show.”

Marvel Studios already describes their highly-anticipated sequel to the No. 3 highest grossing film of all time, “Marvel's The Avengers,” as another “big cinematic event.” And expected to feature the reassembly of iconic Marvel super heroes Iron Man, the Incredible Hulk, Thor, Captain America, Hawkeye, Black Widow & Nick Fury taking on a new unexpected enemy, new additions to the superhero team up of a lifetime are possible.

Expecting reprisals from Robert Downey, Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner and Samuel L. Jackson, and directed by Joss Whedon from a screenplay by Joss Whedon, “Marvel’s The Avengers” sequel is based on the ever-popular Marvel comic book series “The Avengers,” first published in 1963 and a comics institution ever since. And set for release May 1, 2015, the film is distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. In addition to the sequel, Marvel Studios will release a slate of films based on the Marvel characters including “Iron Man 3” on May 3, 2013; “Thor: The Dark World ” on November 8, 2013; “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” on April 4, 2014; and “Guardians of the Galaxy” on August 1, 2014.

I wouldn't be surprised if Black Widow or Hawkeye (or both) aren't in Avengers 2. And they go with one or two other heroes, like Ant-Man, Captain/Ms. Marvel.

There's still a possibility that Ant-Man will be a part of Phase 2. He could very well be one of the new characters for Avengers 2!

I can't wait to see Star-Lord and Rocket Raccoon on the big screen, but it has to be the perfect casting for Peter Quill and I'm afraid it is not Nathan Fillion anymore.

All the orignial roster from the first film will be back like HAWKEYE( please more screen time),BLACK WIDOW,THOR,CAPTAIN AMERICA,HULK,IRON MAN, and Nick Fury and Maria Hill. Probably new to the team will probably be FALCON,MS. MARVEL or Someone else.

Where there is an Ant Man, there is a Wasp. Those are your 2 new Characters for Avengers 2. Pym will create Ultron for shield at the end of "Ant Man" and he will be the villan in Avengers 2. Ultron will create Vision and he will turn good at the end of Avengers 2. Then the they will make Black Panther and he will be in Avengers 3 with Vision.

So basically Esposito is hinting that Thanos will play more of a behind the scenes type of role like Nick Fury.

I like.

Sure I read somewhere that Johansson had signed on to do sequels. Wouldn't be surprised to see no Renner though, he has had some negative things to say about the role of Hawkeye in the first film and if more characters are going to be introduced it seems at least one has to drop out. I'd prefer either Vision or Scarlett Witch ( is she part of Fox's rights with The X-Men? ) personally.

@TheAbomination

I haven't read the latest issue yet, but the whole Guardians of the Galaxy falling out of the sky without any head's up and everyone being alive...just everything GOTG so far in Avengers of Assemble feels as forced as Black Fury and Coulsen in 616.

I understand that GOTG needs face time to promote the movie, but let the guys who did everything Cosmic (Annihilation, war of kings, imperative, etc.) handle it.

I would actually prefer a different villain for Avengers 2. Thanos and what he is needs to be built up, especially if they're going to go into the infinity gauntlet. If they wait for phase 3, it'll give em time to build up a better story and introduce more characters. Someone brought up before that Inifinity Gauntlet should actually be amovie unto itself. I would agree. Use each phase to build up to that. But that's just one way of looking at it. On the flip side that's like 20 movies all building to one thing. Crazy talk.

That would be sweet. They wouldn't even have to make it a separate universe. Just make it street-level with no interference from SHIELD.

I wouldn't mind if falcon is in avengers 2 as long as antman and wasp are in it! I really want kang and ultron as villains in later phases because they have similar yet very different ways to them kang with his army and technology to advanced for avengers to beat in straight up fight and ultron with an army of robots! With his technology and skills! Cannot wait lol also cannot wait for heroes for hire, black panther and dr strange I really want them 3 films but I also really want a namor movie!!!
