Ms. Marvel Rumored for THE AVENGERS Sequel; Emily Blunt & Ruth Wilson In Contention

Taken with a huge grain of salt, Looper actress Emily Blunt and Luther's Ruth Wilson are reportedly “hotly tipped” to play Carol Danvers, Ms. Marvel in Marvel's The Avengers sequel.

Joss Whedon's highly-anticipated followup to this year's highest-grossing film, Marvel's The Avengers, is a couple years away from commencing production. However, the praised writer-director knows “one or two” new characters that will be added to superhero team's roster. And according to Daily Mail, MailOnline at least one of those characters will be Carol Danvers, AKA Ms. Marvel/Captain Marvel, who's been widely speculated. And the U.K. newspaper has even listed two familiar names supposedly competing for the big role.

“Meanwhile, British actresses Emily Blunt and Ruth Wilson are head-to-head in a race for the most sought-after new female role in Hollywood. Emily, 29, and Ruth, 30, are both hotly tipped to play superhero Ms. Marvel in Avengers 2, the sequel to Avengers Assemble.”

Considering the Daily Mail has never been known for breaking casting scoops as major as this one, this rumor should be taken lightly. It's also worth noting that both Emily Blunt and Ruth Wilson were included in a feature written in August by CBM's very own Josh Wilding, where he suggested five actresses who could portray Carol Danvers in Marvel's The Avengers sequel. However, if true, this'd be Marvel's third attempt in nabbing Blunt for a role. She was initially attached to play Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) in Iron Man 2, and then turned down Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell) in last year's Captain America: The First Avenger. What do you think?

Marvel Studios already describes their highly-anticipated sequel to the No. 3 highest grossing film of all time, “Marvel's The Avengers,” as another “big cinematic event.” And expected to feature the reassembly of iconic Marvel super heroes Iron Man, the Incredible Hulk, Thor, Captain America, Hawkeye, Black Widow & Nick Fury taking on a new unexpected enemy, new additions to the superhero team up of a lifetime are possible.

Expecting reprisals from Robert Downey, Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner and Samuel L. Jackson, and directed by Joss Whedon from a screenplay by Joss Whedon, “Marvel’s The Avengers” sequel is based on the ever-popular Marvel comic book series “The Avengers,” first published in 1963 and a comics institution ever since. And set for release May 1, 2015, the film is distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. In addition to the sequel, Marvel Studios will release a slate of films based on the Marvel characters including “Iron Man 3” on May 3, 2013; “Thor: The Dark World ” on November 8, 2013; “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” on April 4, 2014; and “Guardians of the Galaxy” on August 1, 2014.

Blunt is a good actress. She can definitely pull it off. Yvonne Strahovski is my #1 choice though.

I'm not that familiar with Ms. Marvel, but that's surely interesting. And, I'm all for Emily Blunt in a CBM role.

I really hope this is true! The Avengers team needs more females.

I love Emily Blunt, so I hope she gets the part. Marvel must really be interested in her; first they asked her to play Black Widow, now they're asking her to play Ms. Marvel.

But my top pick is still Yvonne Strahovski. She is the perfect choice for Carol Danvers/Ms. Marvel:

I don't know who "Ms. Marvel" is, I know Wasp, and I was expecting Joss Whedon to write Wasp and Pym into an Avengers film. Whatever is happening, I'm not going to doubt or question Marvel Studios. Because I just saw Looper I guess I'll shout 'Emily Blunt'. Marvel has been wanting to use her for a while.

Good news, if true. Either Emily Blunt or Yvonne Strahovski as Danvers would be best.

Carol Danvers will probably make a cameo but not her alter ego. I think The Falcon will be in The Avengers 2 or, if Ant-Man is part of phase 2, the Ant-Man/Giant Man & Wasp might appear.

Nigh to either. None of them smell or look like a bad-ass female cosmic hero who has powers that could the Mighty Thor. Yvonne Strahovski is the only choice for such a role. Plus I heard she be free on her schedule. Did I mention that Yvonne is Aussie? Australia represent!

Am I the only one who laughs when people post real actor pictures next to the picture of the comic character?

Idk why it just looks really stupid to me. Like the two pictures have nothing to do with each other except for the wishful fan casting which means nothing

Ms.Marvel is my favorite Avenger, so please make this happen!

There are better actresses out there for this role, but I wouldn't complain if Emily was casted. I do think she should be called Warbird in the film, rather than Ms. Marvel and Captain Marvel, because both would seem rather cheesy on film. Warbird sounds so badass to me.

And the "mask" will probably be goggles instead or no mask at all.

I think Katheryn Winnick would be fantastic:

She is a great age, at 34. Plus, she is already trained and is a professional bodyguard. Not only does she have the action skills, but she also has the acting skills (Nikita and Bones) and appearance. Her body shape is perfect already!
