Back in late October, just days after Ming-Na Wen officially joined Marvel's S.H.I.E.L.D. ABC drama, AMC Theaters caught up with the Macanese-born American actress to briefly discuss her role as Agent Melinda May. While remaining discreet about the pilot, which is co-written and directed by The Avengers’ Joss Whedon, check out the short video interview embedded below!



Marvel's S.H.I.E.L.D. stars Clark Gregg (Agent Coulson), Ming-Na (Agent May), Brett Dalton (Agent Ward), Chloe Bennet-Wang (Agent Skye), Elizabeth Henstridge (Agent Simmons) and Ian De Caestecker (Agent Fitz). In addition to Joss Whedon, Marvel's S.H.I.E.L.D. pilot is penned by his brother Jed Whedon and his wife Maurissa Tancharoen. And Marvel TV's Executive producer Jeph Loeb stated recently that the pilot is aiming for a premiere spot on ABC's Fall of 2013 line-up.

I don't understand how he has enough time in the day to focus on movies and this TV series too . I would rather he only worked on the Avengers 2 , I want it to be the best that it can be .

@thunderforce he's gotta oversee the other movies leading to avengers 2 so it will be the best it can be brotha! I have faith in joss the sheer fact that he made the avengers work AND work so well to become the 3rd highest grossing movie of all time should put all worries to rest

I agree that THAT is a huge workload, but I think it's a crucial step in keeping continuation with the movies. Is this Josh stepping up to be the predecessor to the Marvel throne? I can see him being to film what Stan Lee has been to the comics. Interesting...

@thunderforce, as of now, Avengers 2 is only in the script stages and doesn't go into production until around spring of 2014. He's also overseeing the other films, along with Kevin Feige, but seeing as he isn't actually writing the scripts and directing them, I don't think that would keep him completely swamped.

Right now he has the time to get this show off the ground and on the air. But, like the other Marvel movies, he's guiding the series, not running it. If the pilot goes to series, Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen will actually be in charge as showrunners. Joss will be involved, but not to the point that he would need to focus on it or take his attention away from Avengers 2.

At one point, Whedon was writing a TV series, a comic book, and a movie at the same time. The man is a hard worker. Heck, the guy's idea of taking a break after THE AVENGERS was to make a whole other movie in a couple of days (MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING)!

So laying out the framework of a TV show and writing and directing a movie (which are inter-related anyway) should be a piece of cake.

i would like to see a young Nick fury casted,,and other shield characters,,, this show better show lots of cameos from characters :)

She was good as Mulan and I really enjoyed her character of Ellen Yin on The Batman (a VERY underrated show, much like Legion of Super-Heroes was...)!!!

I'm really glad she was cast on the show. I always liked her and felt she was underrated.

It nice too that S.H.I.E.L.D. will have more of a female presence; the ratio of male agents to female agents is even.

Joss is a bit of workaholic! the dude is probably being charged by the amount of workload! plus he is only directing and co-writing the pilot he will probably be focusing on the movies after while giving out creative consultant to the show! and as pointed out he has dealt with much more at the same time before so i wouldn't worry!
