Toby Jones Theorizes About Arnim Zola’s Role In CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER
While Hayley Atwell comments on Sharon Carter’s inclusion in the Russo Bros.-helmed Marvel sequel, her First Avenger co-star Toby Jones alludes to Arnim Zola’s comic backstory translating on-screen.
Just a couple months shy of filming’s official commencement, lead and supporting cast members of Captain America: The Winter Soldier have implied they’ve yet to read the script in its entirety. In light of Toby Jones learning only last month that he would take part in the 2014 sequel, where hes reprising his Arnim Zola role from The First Avenger, the English actor told On The Red Carpet that he, too, doesn’t know much about the nature of his presence in Marvel’s third ‘Phase Two’ entry.
“I’m told I am gonna be involved,” the actor reassured at the London Evening Standard British Film Awards. “But of course, I don’t quite know how much I’m gonna be involved. I think the theory is that Arnim Zola is gonna come back and, I’m told by people who know much more about the myth of this stuff, that he invents the secret of eternal existence.” Alluding to future appearances post-Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Jones added, “So, it’s looking good for future films as well. So that character in particular is a good one to get involved with.”
The guys from On The Red Carpet also spoke with Toby Jones’ First Avenger co-star, Hayley Atwell, who already confirmed that she wouldn’t reprise her Peggy Carter role. However, now according to the English actress, “You might see [Peggy] in some other context ... I’m not playing Sharon Carter,” Atwell said of her character’s niece, who actress Emily VanCamp was reportedly cast as. “But [Peggy’s exclusion] was inevitable because, obviously, Steve Rogers wakes up in the first one and it’s modern day. Peggy would be very very old or dead. So, it wasn’t really a surprise to me.”

Anyhow, with 2013 follow-ups to Iron Man and Thor in post-production, Marvel is expected to start filming Captain America: The Winter Soldier between next month and April, primarily in Cleveland, Ohio, as well as Los Angeles and Washington, DC.. And contrary to reports that suggest production was delayed, sources say that everything is on schedule and large set pieces are being constructed right now. What do you think?
Marvel’s “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” will pick-up where the highly anticipated film “Marvel’s The Avengers” leaves off, as Steve Rogers continues his affiliation with Nick Fury & the peacekeeping organization S.H.I.E.L.D, and struggles to embrace his role in the modern world. Starring Chris Evans, Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Frank Grillo, Emily VanCamp, Toby Jones, Cobie Smulders with Scarlett Johansson and Samuel L. Jackson, and directed by Joe Russo & Anthony Russo from a screenplay by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” is distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures and is scheduled for release on April 4, 2014. In addition to “Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” Marvel Studios will release a slate of films based on other iconic Marvel characters including “Iron Man 3” on May 3, 2013; “Thor: The Dark World ” on November 8, 2013; “Guardians of the Galaxy” on August 1, 2014; “Marvel's The Avengers” sequel on May 1, 2015; & “Ant-Man” on November 6, 2015!
