Don Cheadle To Return As 'James "Rhodey" Rhodes' In THE AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON?

It appears that Iron Man 3 actor Don Cheadle has confirmed in a recent interview that he'll play Colonel James Rhodes a third time for Marvel's The Avengers: Age of Ultron. Check it out after the jump!

With the main horde of superhero actors and their villain officially on board, there're surely other supporting cast members and cameo reveals to look forward to in Marvel's next big superhero assembly, The Avengers: Age of Ultron. While filming starts next spring, actor Don Cheadle has seemingly revealed to USA Today that he'll have "a part to film in the next Avengers movie," which indicates that he'll reprise his Iron Man 3 role as Colonel James 'Rhodey' Rhodes alongside Iron Man, Robert Downey Jr. But will Rhodey also suit up as War Machine... er Iron Patriot?

We should note that the USA Today article intended to highlight Don Cheadle's response to him being recognized at the Golden Globes for his Showtime series House of Lies, so it failed include the actor's actual quote about the Age of Ultron. However, the context does imply that Cheadle declared his inclusion in the Marvel sequel while giving a rundown of his impending schedule.

While promoting Iron Man 3, Don Cheadle said he hadn't talked with writer/director Joss Whedon about Rhodey showing up in The Avengers sequel, but he did know that "conversations" were happening. He also mentioned that he was visiting the set of Captain America: The Winter Soldier, which is said to have a "very strong hand off" to the The Avengers: Age of Ultron. However, we still don't know for sure if Col. James Rhodes will have a presence in either films. What do you think?

So far starring Robert Downey, Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Cobie Smulders, Jeremy Renner, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen, and Samuel L. Jackson and James Spader, The Avengers: Age of Ultron is directed by Joss Whedon from his screenplay, and is slated to begin production in March 2014 and the sequel is scheduled to release on May 1, 2015.

Iron Man 3 was crap... I love Iron Man, IM2 and Iron MAn in Avengers... IM3 was just wasted opportunity. The storyline and yes, the twist, it was all lackluster. Only cool thing to take away from it was the suits... And we don't even have that now.

War Machine and Stark should have a 2 v 1 on Ultron

Be fun to get a "West Coast Avengers" reference in there, considering.

Since it seems that Stark Tower is now Avengers Tower, it wouldn't be impossible for his scene to be set there

I have a possible theory. Rhodey could possibly be in the mid-credit scene that further helps bridge The Winter Soldier to Age of Ultron. As far as his role in Age of Ultron, Tony builds Ultron. Rhodey is about to go on a mission with Ultron when Ultron turns on the good guys and kills Rhodey, which then would give Tony motivation for suiting up as Iron Man.

I see him getting killed by Ultron.

They need to make this villain a real risk without killing an Avenger, but by making him do something that will affect a character.

If Ultron is created by Tony (somewhat, or whatever), and he kills Rhodey, how 'bout dat emotional impact that seemed to not exist in Iron Man 3 at all for Tony?

Also, I've been calling it for a while that Ultron will kill him, and possibly other 'side-kick' characters.

He said the same thing for the first Avengers,

and look what happened...

War Machine NEEDS more screen time it took him all the way until the end of Iron Man 2 to get some action for about 5-10 minutes.

In Iron Man 3 his action was TOTALLY placed on the back burner...

So Marvel I say this,

GIVE WAR-MACHINE (NOT IRON(fricken)PATRIOT) LESS OF THIS...

AND MORE OF THIS...

It goes with my theory that Ultron isn't the only villain in AoU. I originally thought that the World security council would create their own team of Avengers which includes Rhodey (who is just following orders) as they view the current team as loose cannons and uncontrollable. Then Ultron got announced and that snuffed out my idea. But maybe Ultron is part of that team and goes rouge? One of the most prominent theories is that Ultron is created by SHIELD or Tony. But I guess its a long shot.

..."pause"

If "ULTRON" is supposed to be a world threat seeing that he's artificial intelligent thus being able to affect hardware everywhere around him think of all the chaos that could cause? War Machine being "black" has nothing to deal with his character appearing in the movie. In times of a "WORLD THREAT" the Avengers are going to need all the help they can get...

Just like in Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes they needed all the help they could get to aid them in battle when the Kree returned if I'm right so why can't they just have War Machine reappear to help aid them in battle against Ultron's drones?

If soo he better this setting then just standing and non fighting.

He got screwed I'm iron man 3.

Plus with a all white cast of 8 superheroes, wouldn't hurt to have some more color in it(excluding green)

@0megaDaGod Yeah its totally a viable theory. I think that the MOE or Thunderbolts or whatever they decide to call them may consist of: Abomination, Crossbones, Quicksilver, Scarlet Witch, Graviton and Iron Patriot or alternatively someone wearing the Whiplash armor since SHIELD have possession of it.

@TheBlackNerd

You are completing reading his comment wrongly even though he worded it poorly. He meant to say "I don't want War Machine in Avengers if the only reason to put him there is to have a black superhero."
At least that is how I took it.

ULTRON is gonna take out rhodey... most likely kill him... forcing tony stark to make another iron man suit and become iron man again... i saw this coming soon as they i heard tony is most likely making ultron.... war machine is gonna bite the dust... mark my words!

I hope to god that Ultron says this quote from the comics. If he does then I think my brain will explode.

"Hello, organic children of the planet Earth. I am the Ultron interface. I was created to replace you. Though you ultimately failed as a species, you should not be ashamed of what you've accomplished. You've done much with your limited capacity, but ultimately you were too greedy and too frail to ever last in the environment you've created. I've studied your literature and pop culture... You've fantasized about this day. And now it is here. Your Doomsday."

if he does appear i would love to see him where one of the concept art of the war machine armours that are in the iron man 3 artwork. but i would much rather see falcon in the avengers than rhodey. i can imagine tony makeing a joke above rhodey's style clashing with his and cap's lol.

@TheGuillotine

Ohhh ok, I see what you're saying. Well in that case neither would I. lol

-but still though... he stated "only real superheroes should be part of the avengers"

War Machine deserves to aid the team regardless of him being a "real hero". Every little bit counts and if not here save his appearance for Avengers 3. All I know is that Marvel can't keep making these lame excuses for other widely known heroes to help the team.
