John Boyega's 'Finn' Features In Awesome New STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS Banner

We're now only six weeks away from the arrival of Star Wars: The Force Awakens in theatres, and the movie's marketing is slowly shifting into top gear. An awesome new banner has surfaced online, featuring John Boyega's lightsaber-wielding 'Finn'. Hit the jump to check it out!

Earlier this week we received five new character posters spotlighting the key players in next month's Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Now a very cool new banner has surfaced on the web, courtesy of Star Wars Junk, featuring a lightsaber-toting 'Finn' (played by John Boyega). The site claim to have been emailed this scanned version below, and believe there are 2-3 others of its kind set to feature in theatres. It seems very likely that fellow protagonist 'Rey' and the villainous 'Kylo Ren' will both receive banners of their own - so keep your eyes peeled!

Starring original cast members Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, Kenny Baker and franchise newcomers, John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, Gwendoline Christie, Lupita Nyong’o and Max von Sydow, Star Wars: The Force Awakens is set to be released on December 18th, 2015.

When I see this movie and find out Finn isn't a Jedi...

@ckal: Or, and here's a crazy idea, but maybe BOTH are force sensitive future Jedi? *gasp* amazing I know.

Obi Wan and Anakin were both Jedi in the PT, it didn't make Anakin any less the main character.

People all over the internet are just projecting their insecurity about a Black Jedi upon John.

@ckal i will never understand why the f would anyone think that finn is not a jedi

@RynerLute I would like Finn to be the only Jedi, the Luke of this trilogy. I just think it would feel kind of dumb if JJ was like 'Surprise! The woman is ALSO a Jedi!'

MattBellissimo - 11/6/2015, 4:25 AM
@ckal I dunno about Rey but Finn is definitely not a Jedi/force sensitive....he'll pick up the weapon to fight Kylo but he'll get his ass handed to him. You can see how unsure he is in the trailer.
RynerLute
RynerLute - 11/6/2015, 4:25 AM
Luke wasn't a full fledged Jedi in A New Hope. Didn't become one until Return of the Jedi.

Anakin didn't even touch a Lightsaber in Phantom Menace. He wasn't a Jedi until Revenge Of the Sith, tenchnically a Padawan in Attack Of the clones.

The point is neither Finn or Rey will be Jedi right out the gate during TFA, it'll be a process like it always has, but it's clear they're both force sensitive.

I think they spoil it here.

Holding a lightsaber doesn't make a person a Jedi. Just cause promo material has Finn holding it doesn't mean he's suddenly force sensitive. You can see in the trailer as Kylo approaches him his stance shakes, he is unsure of what to do. That weapon is probably meant for Rey, who doesn't want it. Finn takes it up to defend himself and his friends.

@MattBellissimo: Both Luke and Anakin both "got their asses handed to them" by Sith Lords at different points of the franchise, it did not mean they weren't force sensitive.

Who in this franchise has dueled Darksiders with a saber and wasn't on the path to be a Jedi?

@rynerLute Not saying it's not a future possibility. But I think it's misdirection and Rey is going to be the force-wielder. Just my reading of it, is all. For all I know Finn might go full Jedi in future films. But for this one, it's def. going to be a "oh shit I need to fight with this weapon or die" scenario.

@RynerLute Why are you so sure about rey? I do think ots possible but people seem too sure about it.

Have to agree with @MattBellissimo. I think JJ may be trying to pull a Jedi mind trick on us all.
RynerLute
RynerLute - 11/6/2015, 4:42 AM
All I know is , if Finn was white no one would be considering or arguing a red herring. Would take that bet 100%

Finn's story just seems like the theatrical version of Kyle Katarn from the old EU. Stormtrooper defects from Empire and finds out he's Force Sensitive and eventually becomes a Jedi.

*shrugs*

Utopian8418 - 11/6/2015, 4:42 AM
@MattBellissimo It obviously looks like that scene is the first time finn uses the lightsaber. But i truly dont comprehend how could that leas ypu to conclude that he is not the jedi of the franchise. These posters mean that finn is the jedi. Otherwise it would be the dumbest reveal in the history of movies. It would feel like JJ saying "Hey, the black guy is a jedi I promise....just kidding!"
RynerLute

@BruceWillis: Ive read the entire spoiler outline that leaked a few months back, so I pretty much know the main beats of the movie.

People are spot on about Rey being a reluctant hero, but if you think Finn is just there to be dismissed then I have some Volcano insurance to sell you as well.

Both Rey and Finn will be Jedi over the course of the trilogy, and I'm willing to take a perma ban bet to back up my claims.
Utopian8418
Utopian8418 - 11/6/2015, 4:46 AM
I am trying hard to believe that the reason people dont believe in finn is that he is black. But sadly RynerLute has made a really valid point with that bet.
MattBellissimo
MattBellissimo - 11/6/2015, 4:48 AM
@RynerLute Could be. I don't think it has anything to do race, at least not with me. I just feel the movie is leaning more towards a direction that's not "every main character needs to have a lightsaber and use the force".

@RynerLute Volcano ban. Lol.

Honestly Finn and Captain Phasma are the characters I'm looking forward to the most. And BB-8....I feel like he's gonna be the "Groot" of this movie.
RynerLute
RynerLute - 11/6/2015, 4:51 AM
If he was white everyone here would be arguing about him being force sensitive AND Luke's son.

But since it's John, they're gonna go with this big misdirection campaign BS because they can't fathom a black Jedi lead character.

Also, FYI, Fighting Kylo is not the first time he uses the saber in the movie, hell it's not if even the second time.

I f*cking love John Boyega...he slayed in Attack the Block and him and Daisy Ridley just look so stoked to be in this film.
RynerLute
RynerLute - 11/6/2015, 4:54 AM
@MattBellissimo: Totally not accusing you dude, I'm just referring to the general attitude of "It has to be a red herring".

Finn is on his own journey too, the movie is called "Force Awakens" after all...
MattBellissimo
MattBellissimo - 11/6/2015, 4:54 AM
What I DO think there's misdirection/misinformation on is Rey being a Solo or related to Kylo. Don't see why her parents would abandon her if that was the case.
MattBellissimo
MattBellissimo - 11/6/2015, 4:56 AM
@rynerLute Didn't think you were bud. Unlike most I don't get defensive on here....I enjoy speculation. The fact that there's still so much we don't know goes to show how well Abrams is keeping a lid on things. Honestly it's not like I care whether or not Finn IS Jedi. I suppose I just don't want either him OR Rey to be cause the prequels made me kinda sick of Jedi lol.
RynerLute
RynerLute - 11/6/2015, 4:56 AM
If Jesse Plemmons had landed this role like he was once rumored, you honestly think everyone wouldn't be arguing he's a Skywalker? I'll make it even clearer without spoiling anything.

Maz Kanata-----> Finn

Luke Skywalker------ Rey

BTW i am sure that in the end all the crybabies will get what they want. Because Kylo Ren and Rey will be the main focus in this movie.....And if not, i would not give a damn. I just want a good Star Wars movie, that's all.

I feel like Finn's character arc is going to be:

He starts off as just some Joe Schmoe turncoat Stormtrooper
He turns into just some Joe Schmoe dude on the good guys' side
He tries to be a Jedi but sucks at it
He does some heroic stuff and we realize he's actually more than just a Joe Schmoe
He has the potential to be a heroic Jedi, but maybe not just yet

Sort of like how Luke started out at just some farm-boy putz in the original movie.
MattBellissimo
MattBellissimo - 11/6/2015, 5:06 AM
@TheVirgin

Why is a Jedi the only "cool role" classification?

Finn can be awesome whether or not he's a Jedi. Honestly, as I said before, the prequels kinda made me sick of Jedi. I'm all for Star Wars being about more than just Force-users.

@MattBellissimo I had a theory about that Solo siblings thing: There is a prophecy about a descendant of Vader bringing the Dark Side to the galaxy once more. That is why Rey, Kylo AND Luke would be hiding. I dont think it will happen but its a possibility.

@RynerLute I didnt understand that Volcano thing haha.

@BruceWillis I get it, and you're right, it is a possibility. My qualm is it's been said Rey is an orphan. Seems peculiar that Han and Leia would just abandon their daughter if that's who she ends up being.

Luke was an orphan too I know, but it was a different situation. Dead mother, father didnt even know he existed. I just can't see Leia and Han abandoning their daughter.
