Kevin Pennington Joining The Avengers?

After the 90210 actor let his fans in on a Marvel movie role he landed, details are emerging that may pinpoint his part in The Avengers...

Over the past few days, Kevin Pennington has been using his Twitter page to update his fans on a secretive movie role he was auditioning for. The 24-year old actor's largest role to date has been as a cast member on the TV remake 90210; and happens to be a self-proclaimed Star Wars aficionado:

Though the messages were vague, they caught the attention of MarvelousNews.com who was able to get in touch with a source inside the Marvel Studios. Not only are they confirming Pennington's addition to Marvel Studio's The Avengers movie, but have revealed further details about the role he has landed in upcoming superhero ensemble film. Though the site says they have yet to confirm these details with other sources, here's what they have found:

- He is signed with Marvel Studios, NOT Fox, Sony or any other film studio.

- He will not appear as the new Spider-Man or as a member of X-Men First Class.

- Plans are for his character to be in Avengers films and other team-related films.

- He will be a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent, but also a fan favorite character from the comics (the character's origin may be changed to fit the movie, and may never have been in S.H.I.E.L.D. or Avenger in the comics)

If this turns out to be true, could Pennington be portraying the Ultimates version of Marvel's famed archer Clint Barton, known to fans as Hawkeye? According to Marvel's character bio page, the description of Pennington's role does seem to fit along the lines of the comics:

'A former Olympic archer, Clint Barton became a U.S. intelligence agent over a decade ago. Active around the world, he was present for the liberation of Kosovo and Afghanistan, as well as the fall of the Berlin Wall. He became a close friend and frequent colleague of fellow agent Nick Fury, and the two operatives were key founders of the modern intelligence agency S.H.I.E.L.D. Both rose through the ranks until Fury became the agency's director and Barton (code-named Hawkeye) became an elite agent of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s black ops division, often partnered with ex-KGB espionage legend Natasha Romanov (code-named Black Widow).'

The last rumors of Hawkeye even being included in the Marvel Cinematic Universe was when The Hurt Locker star Jeremy Renner mentioned meeting with the studio to possibly take the role. Has Pennington stepped into part, or are we looking at getting another character that will be re-tooled for film use?

I bet he will play Ant-man.

Considering the guy's looks, the fact that hes a fan favorite character, and that they'llprobably use the ultimate version of his origin, my guess is that this is Hawkeye.

I think he would be a great hawkeye. He deff has potential.Anyone else agree?

too young for Ant-Man but i think he would make a GREAT Hawkeye! regardless of who plays hawkeye, he better be in the avengers film! especially the ultimates version, and not the purple "H" Hawkeye.

I really don't think that they will place Hawkeye in this movie... Even in the Cartoon Movies one he never showed up... The only thing he was a part of was "Next Avengers: Heroes of Tomorrow", and he played a dead father.

I just see Hawkeye being hopeful thinking, but I think he does fit the Henry Pym look.

I'm proud to say I've never seen that butt rag of a show, but if Marvel hired him than it's OK as far I'm concerned. They haven't really screwed up in the casting process so far.

Since i [frick]ing hate 90210, i never saw the guy act. But you can bet your sweet asses that until i see something to deem him worthy, he's not part of the barrel i wish for Marvel to be picking actors from.

Where's Jeremy Renner when you need him???

StrangerX - 5/11/2010, 10:42 AM
I guess he could be a young Pym. I guess Marvel could be trying to make a young star out of him especially if they still want to do the Ant Man movie. I would rather Clint though it would be cool to see Hawkeye.

oooooo interesting.I haven't seen any of his work, but it would be cool to see if he can bring ol' Hawkeye to life. Hmmm..I can almost see him givin' cap(EVANS) a hard time, like H.E. and CAp use to go at it in the avengers back in the day..let's see how this developes.

CaptainOtter - 5/11/2010, 10:44 AM
never seen this show, so cant say anything about him. still, there is no way this isnt a step down from jeremy renner, who was nominated for an oscar after being a completel badass in the hurt locker. This guy reminds me more of Hawkeye, so i wont mind too much. But im still hoping for renner.

JLanphear - 5/11/2010, 11:06 AM
He definitely LOOKS the part of Hawkeye. I'm alright with this casting. You guys need to understand that The Avengers has a [frick]ing budget. They can't cast big-name stars (such as ACADEMY AWARD NOMINATED ACTOR, RENNER) in all of their parts.

what about that Supernatural guy that a lot of people here wanted to see as Cap? HE looked like he would make a good Hawkeye. This guy doesn't look like anyone in the Avengers universe.

And I do NOT want to see the ultimate Hawkeye. I want to see the REAL one.

woverinesfury@ I don't know, I am getting a decent amount of results when I google him including his Imdb page, which is fairly short.

cchriswake@ It is all speculation at this time, but a 3 movie deal and "fan favorite" doesn't really smell of an irrelevant character. Right now it is about hashing out the different possibilities.

Calling Multi an idiot isn't the wisest thing to do here. That's a quick way to lose credibility and respect in these here parts.

He's delicious. :p

JLan is right... they are not going to hire huge actors for all the roles in these superhero team films - it's really not possible. You already have Downey Jr, Norton, Evans and Hemsworth - along with Johansson, Jackson and possibly Paltrow and Tyler. Plus they still need Ant Man and Wasp cast.

Kevin's role could be Hawkeye but I bet it won't be more than one or two scenes in Avengers. He may have bigger roles in later films once there's fan reaction and his career is stronger.

yeah im with wolverinesfury! who the frack is this guy? and why isnt the guy from Hurt Locker not a good Hawkeye! go back and watch 28weeks later, he is awesome as a sniper in that film. Then again it will all depend on the costume they use for the actor. that bloke would be a good ultimate character, but i would like to see a classic hawkeye get up
Vafrous

Maybe were jumping the gun...
CaptainQuirk
CaptainQuirk - 5/11/2010, 11:20 AM
This seems viable....

Hopefully the next thing they do is confirm that Ant-Man and Wasp WON'T be in The Avengers movie.

They definitely won't translate well onto screen. Their over-the-top abilities would seem absurd, hence Edgar Wrights more comedic approach to Ant-Man.

He could be a totally random character no one's expecting that they just turned into a SHIELD agent. Do any actual SHIELD agents look close to his look?

he could also be playing Rick Jones

Clay Quartermain Agent of SHIELD!
jazzman
jazzman - 5/11/2010, 11:34 AM
@icedupz

Clay Quartermain is already a Shield agent. the article says the character's origin may be changed to fit the movie, and may never have been in S.H.I.E.L.D. or Avenger in the comics.

so its most likely a character who never been a shield agent.

Yeah Hank Pym or Hawkeye are typical but good assumptions..but the only thing that makes me unsure about who else they maybe refering to is this....

- He will be a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent, but also a fan favorite character from the comics (the character's origin may be changed to fit the movie, and may have NEVER been in S.H.I.E.L.D. or Avenger IN THE COMICS)

stupid internet connection i lost my comment in Refresh or something.

.well just wanted to pinpoint that Renner was great in The Hurt Locker, but the ARROGANT personality he added to the character in that movie, IS EXACTLY THE SAME we saw from him in his DR HOUSE special appearence (as a sick Rock Star singer)..arrogant and not caring for anything in the world..
}
.so my point is that maybe he is good but kind of predictible, so MARVEL already knew what to expecto from him, and instead tried with someon fresh: Pennington
MONTEZ

he looks the part, never seen him act so cant judge that. stoked hawkeye will be involved for sure now. quick question. do you guys prefer clint as hawkeye or as ronin. i love hawkeye but woul love to see the ronin clint instead.

LOOKS THE PART!?!?!! ARE YOU ALL NUTS??? I FEEL LIKE IM TAKING CRAZY PILLS!!!!

Seriously, think this one through. All the big names, most epic of epic CBM and for the roll of Hawkeye we have....(drum roll, please)... Some tween hearthrob from a remake of a tween bogus show from the 90s??? Are you all smoking rock? Seriously. We go from Jeremy Renner to THIS guy? Jesus.

I want someone to play these heroes that appears a little more rough and rugged than another pretty boy sodomite. Brandon Routh anyone??

@SirJediFrank

thanks SirJediFrank. i doubt its Hawkeye cause the article did say the character's origin may be changed to fit the movie, and may never have been in S.H.I.E.L.D. or Avenger in the comics.

so its most likely a character who not known to be Shield agent or Avengers. Hawkeye is known to be a member of the Avengers.
