Kevin Pennington's mysterious three picture deal with Marvel Studios has just been narrowed down by the same source who broke the news of his casting several weeks ago. According to an AvengersNews studio insider,

"Kevin’s role won’t be disclosed publicly until closer to filming. Marvel is still choosing which characters would best fit in their cinematic universe. They don’t want to throw a character in for the sake of it; they want it to make sense. Plans are for Kevin to be in 'The Avengers' in a small role to be expanded further in the future."

The last word about Pennington's secret role was the possibility he would either portray Rick Jones or Noh-Varr as a revamped S.H.I.E.L.D. agent for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Now, one of those characters is off the table. AvengersNews goes on to say that Pennington "is being primed to play Captain Marvel for upcoming Marvel films." Unfortunately, their source wasn't clear on whether it is the original Marvel Universe Captain Mar-vell or the new one, Noh-Varr.

The casting makes perfect scene when taken in conjunction with the news that the Skrull and Kree alien races will be featured in The Avengers. Both Captain Marvels are Kree aliens who became Earthly allies in comic book canon.

Considering that Pennington announced he will be attending the 2010 San Diego Comic Con, more than likely that is when Marvel will decide to unveil his place in their film slate.

Good stuff Multi!

I'm hoping for old school: Mar-Vell but it would most likely be Noh-Varr. Sounds like this will be a fairly smaller role than was first thought.

Marvel wants to keep expanding their film universe which is very exciting. I just hope they don't trip over themselves by trying to constantly set up future events/movies. I thought it cut into IM2 just a bit too much personally.

To many characters all at once is not going to go over all that well.
They story is going to get lost.

Mar-Vell played a key role in the Kree-Skrull War, so hoepfully Pennington is being set up for that part. If that storyline is built up properly, and allowed to develop over the course of the first two films before being the main focus of the third one, it could really be something special.

i'd love to see a captain mar-vell movie,you could have a cast of great charactors the likes of thanos,adam warlock,drax the destroyer,the super skrull,silver surfer & galactus.

Amazing a Captain Marvel cameo in AVENGERS and they
don't even have cameos for HAWKEYE, HANK & JAN,
BLACK PANTHER, QUICKSILVER, SCARLET WITCH, OR VISION
announced yet! Kind of jumping the gun aren't
they! CAPTAIN MARVEL didn't come along till way later!

I guess they're going with the DAMM ULTIMATES and
THE SKRULLS/KREES and throwing out all the REAL
history of THE AVENGERS...all that history just

I doubt they'd use Elektra in this movie, especially given how poorly Garner's portrayal was. Also, Fox might still have rights to her.

That said, Pennington is dead sexy. Love to see him as Noh-varr with some white hair and those short-shorts.....;)

who is a spy sent by the Kree, he starts to like humanity and abandons his mission, joining up with the heroes and all that, that could fit into the movie

Why would you go for Nor-var over Mar-vell? That's cutting out a whole chunk of story, isn't it?

Also, just because they're going to fight the Skrull doesn't mean they're going all ultimate. Its not like the 616 Avengers haven't fought the Skrull along side Captain Marvel. If they really think this out and make it a multi-picture plot this could be 9 times awesome. Also, if we we're really sticking to Avengers history Cap wouldn't be in it yet, and that is unacceptable.

Also, there is no way Jennifer Garner will ever play Electra on screen again unless they think fans will pay to see her die again.

I still don't even know what his voice sounds like. I hope that his casting is a case of a studio casting an actor based off their acting abilities rather than their star power. :)

They have fought the SKULLS tons of times
in AVENGERS history!

If they have their first contact with the
SKRULLS & KREE in the first AVENGERS then
it would work! That would set things up for
AVENGERS 3 and the latest SKRULL/KREE war!

If they did it like that then it would be
fantastic 'cause the SKRULLS definitely
would be a reason for THE AVENGERS to need
to ASSEMBLE for the first time, to battle
something as huge and insidious as a
FIRST alien SKRULL INVASION!

The 3 AVENGERS movies would knock the ball
out of the park:

1ST AVENGERS--FIRST SKRULL INVASION
2ND AVENGERS--ULTRON & JOCASTA
3RD AVENGERS--LATEST SKRULL KICK-BUTT INVASION!

Now I'd buy that fer a dollar!!!!!

But please...not ALL ULTIMATES!

Personally, I hope he's playing neither of them.

However, as Noh-Varr was a villain up until recently and has only just taken on the mantle of Captain Marvel a few months ago I think it's more likely that Pennington will play the original. A horrible casting choice IMO.

AvengersNews seems to post a lot of news from "inside sources" (read: made up) so I'll take this, and the recent Skrull news (wherever that rumour came from) with a pinch of salt. :P

Why so much hate on Ultimates?

Some of the things in Ultimates would fit well in a movie, I'm not saying ignore 616, just saying use as much from all the possible sources to makes something unique and good for the movie

Damn he would make an awesome CAP though, PENNINGTON looks way too young and skinny for that role, fingers crossed its for the other MARVEL!
